i figured, we can make friends with like-minded people who share the same interest in fragrances.

i'll put up my contact info, and you can post yours for others to add you.

facebook.com/generalfrancis - add me (and message me that you're from bn if you do)

though just be respectful that i don't want my real life friends to know that i'm on bn

Add me! We'll chat, we'll have fun, maybe go frag shopping etc. Especially if you live in NY! Hell, I don't have many friends who care about fragrances, and I'm always looking for people to talk scents with. Please don't be a serial killer!

i thought we would be great friends until i read the last sentence. lol jk

Ha, this exchange really made me laugh.

Amery, get ready to change your name to icanspamyou, hehe.. wait, or would that be ucanspamme...

Also, fragrance shopping is infinitely more fun when you're with people that enjoy it. I recently went with a friend who told me during the endeavor "I hate it when guys wear this stuff, just wear nothing or something light and fresh." I dropped to the floor in despair on the spot.

haha thankfully most of my non-perfumsita are tolerant. Enthusiastic? No they call me abnormal and other abusive words (love my best friends LOL) but they're tolerant when I wanna stop and sniff.

Haha yeah I realize the range of possibilities I'm opening myself to by posting my facebook (aka the details of my life) on this forum, which ranges from getting email spammed like nuts to being stalked, murdered, and dumped in the Hudson. But hell, if there was a forum I'd trust on the net, it'd be this one. Basenotes by far has the nicest and most courteous people of any forum I've been on.

^^^contrary to what I JUST said, I totally wussed out and just removed the link to my facebook page. Peace out.

Noirdrakkar, I was neither aiming the "serial killer" comment at you nor accusing you of anything LOL. Sorry if that's how it came across, obviously it was only a joke. I was instead directing that to the general population of Basenotes who previously had the details of my life at their disposal. Please don't get any ideas.

icanzapyou, sweetie, did you worry weren't safe because hedonsit and I said some hurtful things, hurtful things that maybe made you feel revealed?

In all seriousness, I think it's a great screening device, taking up the option make friends here first, then invite to Facebook if you enjoy that person consistently. I have made that invitation ( to my Facebook Lair {where I have family photos and other private, personal things.) only four times at basnotes; I am cautious. I am not young, but my approach to gleening Facebook friends is i accept only people I LIKE from IRL and only people I think I can trust and also like from cyberspace.

I have had a couple of perfume board stalkers! Boy, scary -- shuddering to remember them -- but it taught me:
1. I am not as good at reading these people as I thought and
2. These people love perfume (well some do, right?), but that's like saying they love sandwiches. They could be anyone.

Just advice from trepidatious troglodyte!

I thought this was the new way of making friends.
Apparently getting to know them and letting the friendship grow on its own is still the way to go.

It's ok Amery. You've nothing to worry about. I only know where you go to school, and what your interests are. Maybe we'll bump into each other sometime...
*cue scary music*

YOu know, zap, I just made a peek at yout Facebook, jut the mom in me making sure no weirder sorts her had 'befriended; you.
But, it's funny, (ironic) that I was honestly just planning to visit his town! On a little business trip. I mean, I don't know if you know any perfume shops or stuff I might like there? You can trust me. I'm your number one fan.

No worries Hillaire, I'm old at heart. I don't even have a facebook account.

I made Facebook friendships with at least three Basenoters, but before I ever befriended them on FB, I got to know them quite well on Basenotes first - and interaction was civil, informative, erudite and communicative

Sorry it took a while to get back to you! Hey, I hope you have lots of fun. The only real essential place to visit in NYC in my honest and humble opinion is the Barneys New York in midtown, which is nothing more or less than a niche paradise! So many brands I hadn't heard of, tons of great scents and knowledgeable but friendly staff. I think you'll have a blast. Other than that, I'm a big fan of MiN NY, which is downtown but a really nice store nonetheless. The whole of Soho is worth a visit, not just for fragrances but in general.

PS fragrances make a very good substitute for mace!

BUMP DIS YO BASENOTES!!

Hey guys,

I honestly kind of liked this idea. I mean, a large number of people are perfectly comfortable friending completely random people on facebook, so why the hell shouldn't people who spend time on a fragrance forum who interact with each other to some small extent be facebook friends? But then again, maybe it's a little bit too much for, say, a teenager in Australia to friend a 60 year old dude in Minnesota (those examples were chosen at random).

I hope other people actually see this post. Maybe we can start out with just college kids like me, you know the annoying kind who are typically looking for recommendations all the time, are low on cash, want to impress girls, etc. I'm proposing starting, basically, a fragrance fraternity on facebook. I don't wanna start a group or anything cuz that's kind of lame, but we could friend each other, take interest in what frags we buy, give each other basic advice, etc. Fuck it, we're nerds here, let's be nerds together. And who knows, maybe the miniscule number of people who actually take interest in this shit will band together. It can be like Project Mayhem but for fragrances!
