Why does my Frederic Malle have a shiny cap?

It was pointed out to me on the "Today I Bought" thread that my Vetiver Extraordinaire does not have the usual matte cap. What's up with that? Is this a new thing?

it smells as VE should smell. I bought it as Aedes de Venustas in the Village.

Just checked mine. All have matte caps. Either they're changing their caps or you're special!

Did you polish your bottle with lemon fresh pledge to take your photo?

It has to be just a new design/material for the cap.

They are updating their caps and soon the coffret packaging too.

these shiny caps will look really awful next to the older bottles, for those of us who collect.
We might have to resort to mop-&-glo, after all.

I'm curious how you made the leap from cap to knob? Look under your knob, you may have won a free Pepsi, but don't be disappointed if it just says: Not a Winner, Try Again!

If the juice is the same just take a strip of 600 grit sandpaper and solve your OCD. Great sense of humor you got there.

I agree. The matte caps were really nice. This one looks cheap.

Maybe the marketing team decided that matte tops from the Frederic Malle line didn't stand out and attract attention among other perfumes. Therefore it was decidee this tacky plastic top would solve the issue. Its a fingerprint magnet.

Could be that they lost their original cap maker, or that these are simply less expensive to make. That would be a disappointing motive (vintage knobs, anyone?) but it's the way of the world these days.

The matte ones look nicer and more artistic, but in the end I suspect it's the juice that counts.

I didn't know they had coffrets. From where are those available? Or are they new?

Don't like. Matte is better for this house.

I'm surprised it didn't descend into a "I'll show you mine, if you show me yours first" scenario. Now, that would have been very concerning...

Sorry, what I mean is the boxes with the foam inserts as "coffret". Will slide out the side, with a reflective backing in there and a foam wedge cut out that surrounds (but doesn't cushion behind the bottle as it currently does).

No, he used Allure Homme Sport instead.

Are you sure it wasn't Bvlgari Acqua?

l took delivery of a new bottle of Carnal Flower yesterday, & l'm pleased to report that it has the matte black cap. l must say it does look much better than that shiny one. l had been a bit worried after seeing this thread!

I was a little confused when I received portrait of a lady the other day and it came with the new cap. Really does look a little out of place next to my others. Personally the new cap is no improvement at all it looks cheap, the matte label and the matte cap gave it a classy look, this takes away from it a bit. On the bright side, I emailed them expressing my concerns and they said they'd ship me out an older cap. Dunno how much longer that will be an option but looks like I can keep my continuity for now. Better get all my Malle's now so I have replacement caps in the future!!
Brian you best be firing off an email to Freddy too. While he's in a generous mood! But save your shiny caps they'll be ebay rare soon enough.
I got disappointed when I saw the shiny cap on my new bottle of carnal flower...
I have 2 Malle with this new box (horizontal sliding) and it's 1 million time better to use, comparing with the former (it discouraged me a few time to not use the perfume although i wished).

I don't care about the cap either.
the caps look pretty decent in real life actually. and they raised the price of musc ravageur here.. sigh
post #40 of 42
You got the reformulated version... (kidding)
Saw all the new bottles with the shiny caps today at Saks in Houston. They have the EPM logo stamped in white also. I think i like the matte caps better. The setup thet have there is awesome though-giant glass refrigerator filled with hundreds of bottles. Some of the candles they have seem like they would make great perfumes, what are they waiting for. I think im going to go back with my camera while im here and i will post some pics.
I was talking to the fragrance manager there last week (Angela, very knowledgeable!) and she said Malle doesn't want any of the perfumes to be room fragrances or vice versa. Which is a PITY, the gardenia candle is sooo lovely, and would have made an amazing perfume.
