If you could wear only one house forever?

Ok so I'm quite literally laid up at the moment and to amuse myself I've been browsing the web for scent. Just looking not buying.... You know

It occurred to me which non niche house I would wear if I could only choose one which was easily accessible on every high street.

I know which house mine is but which is yours?
Non-niche you say.

Mmm either Chanel or Guerlain.
Hermes I guess. I could deal with it if it was hermes.

Amouage
Guerlain (because I already have enough to last forever)-

Alityke,no fair! You must share your choice too!
I used to be totally a Guerlain gal, but if the question relates to what is attainable from a house in current formulation and not the vintage back catalogue of fame....then I am probably Chanel right now.

Let's imagine I lose my whole current perfume wardrobe, there is nothing vintage available as market prices make these even more expensive than high-end new fragrances, I can go to only one house with the insurance companies money (sorry taking your original question and adding all sorts of extra definitions). Then I am going to CHANEL to re stock. The rest will take years to find and replace.

Although I just re-read your post, I must admit I was including LEs and so on.

Alityke I saw on another thread you were in great discomfort - wishing you a speedy recovery from that soon.
Non-niche only ? - Guerlain, followed closely by Chanel and Givenchy.

Get well soon, Ali.
I'd have to go with the house of Guerlain. Thank goodness we'll never have to find out, lol.

I hope you feel better soon, Alityke!! Which house would you pick?
Guerlain, and close 2nd choice would be Chanel.

I should say Estee Lauder, though, as I wear quite a few of those, and it is an American house, and the prices are reasonable -- they are loyal to their older customer base. They keep their classics and do not discontinue them.

Thank goodness we do not have to make a decision like that!

Guerlain!

Thank you all for the good wishes. You'll be delighted to know I only ever let myself bitch and whine for 24hrs.

Looking at my wardrobe I guess I'm a Dior girl. The sheer breadth of the range comes closer to meeting my whims than others.

For those ahem.... Romantic times -The Poisons
Assertive work days - Miss Dior or if I'm feeling Thatcherish Diorella
Relaxed work days - Dune
Laid back sunny jeans days - Escale a Portofino
Pretty dress days - Diorissimo
Winter warmer - Dioressensce

Yes the vintage versions are all more beautiful but if I could have only the one high street house. Dior would be it

I'm thinking suicide would be appropiate.

Yeah, when I think "available on every high street" here, I think...

...Time to get a new hobby, then.

Probably Dior for me, but I'd hardly be thrilled about it.
Caron, followed by Guerlain.

Same here...Chanel and Guerlain are just...just...but I'm also growing very fond of Givenchy (only their vintages though)
Amouage
Yves Saint Laurent, of course.
Oh my! This is tough. I will have to say ... Hermes , followed closely by Guerlain.

Ugh. Such a scary thought! Thank goodness we have so much more to choose from. I am so grateful.
Chanel
Armani or Chanel
Nina Ricci or Caron
Guerlain
It would have to be Thierry Mugler ... I could NOT be without my Angel!
I don't think so, it would feel as my nose and senses were being hijacked by a dictator.
Not sure if I'd go for Dior or YSL but it would be one of these two.

He must live in the UAE.

Chanel.

No.

Mugler.

No.

Guerlain.

No, really, Chanel. I think. Ack!
Non-niche? That's hard! I would go with Caron.
Vintage Weil. Otherwise, I really do not know. Guerlain because I have a lot of them in current formulation. Houses I would like to know better: YSL, Givenchy, Chanel, Caron, Dior, Tom Ford.
Jil Sander or YSL
Chanel.

Just Hermes.

Caron or Guerlain for me.
Chanel it is then.

Guerlain.
Mona di Orio I hope that they'll be succesfull (even after she passed away) and be avalaible for ages.

Oh sorry you meant "non niche" house... undecided then :]
+1 Hermès. And what are all you dudes doing over here hijacking the girl talk? I didn't know we could do that.

If I could pick niche, it might be Bond No. 9 just for the ridiculous breadth of selection. I still suspect that what's in 90% of those bottles is not worth wearing though.
Only one fleeing mention of Dior ... shame on y'all!

DIOR ... closely followed by Chanel and Givenchy!
Guerlain
Another for Chanel, with Guerlain a whisker's breadth behind.
Wait - if we say Chanel or Dior, does that count the "exclusives" too?

If so, it has to be one of these. Just not sure which.
Oh, goodness . . . Chanel, Guerlain, Caron, Givenchy, or Dior, and probably in that order.

If it's available on every high street it's fair game
post #50 of 74
Do you actually mean *every* high street, or the one in your nearest large town/city?

lf it's the latter, l'm with lilybelle in going for Estee Lauder; l love all three of the Private Collection series, as well as Bronze Goddess & Brasil Dream.

lf it's the former, then one is stuck with the latest celebuscent or bargain bin stuff, & l don't even want to think about that!
It would be Chanel, Guerlain, Dior for me, not necessarily in that order. Thanks God I don't have to choose
post #52 of 74
Guerlain - but only if there is Chamade or Vetiver. I do like Mitsouko, but do not wish to wear it for the rest of my life. Although, perhaps I could get used to that.

If Guerlain is not available, Chanel with eau Premiere (I'm presuming no exclusifs).

If none of those, Kelly Caleche by Hermes, available at most dept stores.

Okay, that wasn't so horrible.
Guerlain, Chanel and Dior....in that order I think.
Is by Kilian - niche? Otherwise Guerlain and Dior.

Ok nearest high street with a department store or Boots the Chemist equivalent. Otherwise I'd be scentless as our village high street has no vendors of fragrance at all

The concept of having less choice is both comforting AND terrifying (sometimes I just stand in front of my perfume 'shelf' in the morning and feel nearly paralyzed by all the options....but most days I like it that way).

That said, I would probably choose Guerlain--for the sheer range and variety. The ones I would circulate most often would be:

Apres L'Ondee for those melancholy and/or rainy days
Cuir Beluga for fall/winter or when I crave something both spicy and soft
Gourmand Coquin for girly days or when I need comfort
Pampleune for spring fever
Terracotta Voile d'Ete for vacations and mental retreats
Nahema for heady summer evenings and/or special occassions
Winter Delice for those strange days when I feel both hostile and edgy

I could go on....
Chanel
Though I don't own much of either in my current wardrobe, if I could only have one non-niche line it would be Chanel. Guerlain is a close second.
Guerlain, followed by Chanel, though if you had asked me a year ago, it would have been the exact opposite.
