4 New Tom Ford Private Blends for Fall 2012 - and some other news

I don't have any details, but my local Tom Ford rep told me to expect 4 new Private Blend fragrances this fall (he hasn't been given the names or any other info yet). He also said to expect a new men's fragrance - possibly for summer.

All of the Musk fragrances are being discontinued - except White Suede. Bois Marocain is being discontinued also (I think this may have already been announced).

If anyone hears any further details, please update us.

Thanks for the news, Joe. Looking forward to them.

Wow thanks for the heads up
Nice. Very excited to see what they are.
Awesome but I have yet to try many of the current blends
post #6 of 188
Nice, but sad about the discontinuation stills. There are people that enjoy the discontinued fragrnaces, and will be disappointed in buy again from the brand. Why to launch tons and them keep only half?
Thanks for the news , Joe ! Tom Ford just loves to discontinue fragrances. Very curious to know what the new ones are though.

Thanks for the news!

Thanks for the info.....Gary

I think the intention had always been to move some out and introduce new ones, depending on what sold and what didn't. He created too many (and possibly not as well worked out) right away, and there's simply no counter space in dept stores. What sells doesn't seem to correlate well with quality, sadly.

So I guess the musks didn't sell well. I bet those seeking clean stuff went to the azure lime thing instead.

Excited about these.
Thanks for the info. TF stuff is always worth a try.
Last I heard Jasmine Musk was also sticking around but who knows.

Wow, this is great news! I can't wait to find out what's coming up, especially for the designer men's release.

However, I am pretty disappointed in the fact that the unsuccessful private blends are being discontinued, especially for those of us who haven't had the chance to try some of the more obscure ones (Moss Breches, Bois Rouge, Japon Noir...).

I could be wrong, but is the difference between a successful and unsuccessful Private Blend fragrance that much to warrant this process of mass discontinuing? Obviously the Private Blend endeavor wasn't designed to be a mainstream success but rather an artistic and exclusive collection that I thought would be above this. Anyone have any inside info?

Estee Lauder only cares about their bottom line. The End.

Apologies in advance if this sounds like a stupid question, but are the popular Private Blends going to be discontinued? Such as Tobacco Vanille, Noir de Noir, Oud Wood, Amber Absolute, and Tuscan Leather.

Amber from what I've been told is.
Very excited about this; you know you're going to get a quality fragrance with TF. One that lasts and projects and just reeks of quality. I don't find the pricing to be unreasonable either.
Thanks for the info! Excited about these 4 releases and I'm curious what they'll consist of. I love the private blends but Ford's designer fagrances I'm not a fan of, will still give it a try.
They should consider discontinuing Lavender Palm, What a disgracefully crappy fragrance. Smells like a glorified glade plug-in.
Thanks for the info. Petruccijc, as usual. I really appreciate your threads!

Looking forward to these!!!!!

Bless the split board

I think the whole Musk series is nice but just got overlooked for some reason. I own Urban Musk and really like it. Anyone else a fan of the Musk line?
I sampled Urban Musk at the local NM several times and might just have to get it before its gone.

Any guesses on what the new fragrances could be?

Let's see, they recently released a sandalwood, a lavender, a jasmine...

Already have or had the white musks, a tobacco/gourmand, an amber, a green chypre, a floral chypre, a leather, some ouds/woods, a rose + oud, a sweet floral, a gardenia, some citrus/neroli, a patchouli...

My guess - something from the following:
- an animalic
- an incense (AA doesn't count, does it?)
- a boozy scent
- a tuberose
- an iris

LOL!

Whatever they do, this is the best news in quite a while. Too bad we have to wait, but at least they happen this year.

I went on a "sport" sampling spree this weekend. God forbid, it was mind-numbing - and I'm a guy who likes this stuff! One after another, they beat me down with the "weak force". They took the wood out of Issey. I mean, yuzu and wood was the whole point. Play - I don't even want to think about it. Little minus everything = nothing. Even the new Trump fragrance was looking better! Trump!!! Same with the new CK One Summer - much more distinctive. But I saved the worst for last. "the one" SPORT. O.M.G. I am not paying that much for watered-down vodka, thank you. The most attractive thing about the fragrance is that it looks c r y s t a l _ c l e a r. And it smells c r y s t a l _ c l e a r.

You know what wowed me? Ferragamo F Black Pour Homme. I was wondering why it was so much better. Olivier Polge, perhaps, but at least it stayed with me.

Still holding out for Kenzo's new sport. Anton says it's pretty good, and he wasn't impressed with the Chanel Allure Homme Sport Extreme, which definitely wasn't as bad as the new trio of Cheshire Sport masculines.

Tom Ford - if your new summer masculine is a sport..........

Well, it had better have some jock balls. None of this wimpy stuff! You hear me? Grrrrr.

It's ok, Tom! We love you! I would *even* forgive a sport!

I can see it now. Tom Ford Tuberose Sport. Blind buy!
4 more? I purchased Tuscan Leather, Amber Absolute and Noir de Noir. I've been eating bread and water for the past month!
Thank you, Joe, for the update. Will keep and eye out for these. Recently fell in love with TV, TL and Neroli Portofino.

Well if it's got the words "Tom Ford" and "Jock Balls", I would be all over it.

Dont you get a lot of Tuberose from Jasmin Rouge ??? Im sure theres some in there somewhere ...
Amber absolute being discontinued you say? Hrmpf. I love my bottle. I have a 50ml and it should last quite a while, but it's so good when I'm in that mood. Too bad.

That's very sad actually because his Musk Pure was the "closest" alternative to the always harder to find Helmut Lang EDC and EDP.

I cross my fingers for "iris"

I agree - that could be classic! He hasn't really shown us the kind of defining iris that I think he's capable of. That could temp my wallet in a big way.

And - welcome to Basenotes!
NOT IRIS!!!! lol if one of them is iris based then that will save me a few dollars

LOL! Can't please everybody, I guess. Not sure which of us I should wish the fat wallet to!

I would also like something closer to Kilian's Incense Oud.

give it a few more months and it will be gone.

Finally something to look forward too.
I've really enjoyed the most recent Private Blends, especially Santal Blush and yes, Lavender Palm. I like but don't love Jasmin Rouge. I'm looking forward to trying the new ones.
wouldnt mind to see a coffee one from this line.
I saw TF saying that he would be making certain fragrances of the PB collection Location exclusive. Does Anyone have any experience with these scents.

So true! It should be called Maid in Manhattan, smells like an upscale house keeper.

Awesome news. Tom Ford's PB kicks ass. Wish I could afford it....
One little update on this subject. My Tom Ford rep said she just got word that one of the new fragrances will be called Men's Noir.

That's a really bland name! And very different from the rest of the PB names.

I haven't smelled one TF frag that didn't smell like something I'd expect from a "functional perfumer".

this likely would be the men's release it seems.

If the name of this one is as descriptively accurate as the names of the other PBs, then we probably cannot take that for granted! Although in fairness, the most recent PBs have pretty accurate names. (Santal Blush, Jasmin Rouge, Lavender Palm)

Double post - swear I didnt click twice.
thanks Joe for the heads up ...
Joe's original post is correct, the three White Musks are being axed along with Bois Marocain AND Amber Absolute, both completely gone, no longer AA being sold only in 50 ml bottles. Also, the four new ones will be a similar sub-line to the PB's called the Jardin (sp?) Noir line. Names of the four are not released yet.
The discontinuation of AA doesn't surprise me. There's a glut of nearly identical ambers on the market and this one was by far the most unoriginal of the TF Private line (at least of the one's I've tried).

Thanks fitch256. Glad I got in on an AA split. Got 50 ml, should last me a while.

Tom Ford is a real fragrance-butcher (unfortunately). I hope Italian Cypress and Oud Wood still will be in production, but we can`t be sure when it comes to Tom Ford..
