Best warm weather vetiver?

I've been wearing Guerlain Vetiver for years and I love it in the fall and winter. Same with Encre Noire. I'm looking for a scent that has prominent vetiver than can be worn more comfortably in the warmer months. I'd like it have at least four hour longevity, at least average projection and to focus less on the woody or smoky aspects of the vetiver. Something more bright for the warmer months.

Someone recommended Sel de Vetiver, but I'm questioning the reviews. Although they are positive, I don't want another aquatic. And while I appreciate the art involved in making a fragrance smell like the sea air, that's not what I want out of a vetiver.

If all else fails I'll just do what I've been doing, wear Guerlain in the hotter months and just spray it a little lighter.

For me, even Guerlain Vetiver worked well both during summer, as well as during warmer spring and autumn

Personally I wear any vetiver fragrance that I like in summer - and all other seasons. But you may want to try Comme des Garcons Vettiveru.

I think Hermes' Vetiver Tonka would be wonderful to wear in the warmed months. On my skin, it is quite sweeter and brighter than any vetiver I've had the pleasure of smelling. Would certainly be a change of pace from the other fragrances you mentioned.

Perhaps Givenchy Vetyver, but any will really do.

Grey Vetiver by Tom Ford. As Hednic mentioned, most vetiver frags will do the trick in warmer weather.

This and Vetiver by Dior.

I've had my eye on Grey Vetiver for a while, especially since it's been described as a lighter and more "modern" take on Guerlain. I'll pick up a few samples this week, see which one suits me best. We're currently in the high 70s this week, and it's only March. It's going to be a hot summer, I need to be well prepared.

I like Vettiveru a lot too. Highly recommended for spring and summer!

Original Vetiver by Creed have 6+ hours longevity and it's perfect for warm weather.

Suggest giving a try to Different Co. Sel d' Vetiver for a change from the Lalique and Guerlain.

Warm or cold weather: Sycomore!

Second this. I enjoy dozens of vetiver scents, but nothing makes me happier than Sel de Vetiver. For me, the warmer months are the time to enjoy the grassier and aquatic aspects of vetiver, and this scent really highlights them.

Absolutely! This is a wonderful and "light" vetiver. IMO you will love this as I am Vetiver Guerlain fan as well. Vettiveru is also not as hard on the wallet like so many others.

I recommend Malle's Vetiver Extraordinaire, though I find Guerlain's perfectly good in warm to hot weather.

Grey vetiver should work well also, the citrus in the top is very pleasant.

I wear all vetivers in the hot DC summer too, and Sycomore is a favorite. Many great suggestions for fresher vetivers. The freshest vetiver I can think of (and probably my favorite vetiver overall) is $$ Vetiver extraordinaire, as also suggested by ralmeida.

I'd also add ($$$) Guerlain vetiver pour elle, very fresh and without woods or smoke. But you must be willing to add a touch of white flowers (I am).

Sel de Vetiver was the first that came to mind, Grey Vetiver would also work quite well IMO.

The 1st one that comes to my mind is Creed OV, but I prefere Sycomore on any weather.

I've had great success during the humid gulf coast summers wearing Jo Malone's Vetyver. It's quite bright with a citrus note. It has good staying power and projection which often times brings compliments. Sometimes I layer it with a splash of JM's Verbenas of Provence for an added twist. It's not as sweet as Tom Ford's Grey Vetiver or smokey like Sycomore. All mentioned though do just fine in our hot climate.

Ah now this is very useful, I'm a little to the North in Baltimore, right on the water. It gets very humid here too, so I want something that I can wear tastefully.

I'll get some samples from TPC this week. Looks like Sycomore, Creed OV, Vetiver Extraordinaire, and Grey Vetiver will be on this list.

Most vetivers are good in warm weather:

Syomore
Givenchy Vetyver
Gorilla Perfumes Exhale
L'Artisan Timbuktu
Frederic Malle Vetiver Extraordinaire

Kenzo Air isn't talked about much but it's great in the heat. In case you care, Roger Federer used to wear it. I don't know if he still does.

I just started a series of articles on vetiver-centered compositions. If you're interested, three of them are already on-line here. More to come...

Hands down, Mazzolari Vetiver. Similar in feel to Sel de Vetiver. Simply gorgeous.

Love Malle's VE in summer!

I totally agree. I love this one and wear it in the warmer months as I find it refreshing and bright.

Sycomore and Encre Noire both have worked very well for me in the hot and humid summer days of the north east. Heck I've even successfully worn Coromandel and MKK in the same weather. As long as you don't pass the cloying threshold any thing should work in any weather. Go easy on the trigger and you'll be fine.

Sel de Vetiver
Sycomore
Noma di ordio vertiver
Dior Vetiver is my favorite right now, followed by Vetiver Tonka, followed by Grey Vetiver. I could see all working great in the summer.
Of those I've tried, Grey Vetiver - admittedly lighter than many suggested, but I find vetiver to be a heavier, "colder weather" scent FWIW
post #34 of 44
I think it's funny that, with a few exceptions, people just throw in their favorite vetiver with no regard for the vetivers that are actually brilliant Summer scents.

Oupavoc, is that Noma di Ordio the evil perfumer twin of Mona di Orio? Your list is good, but I would save Sycomore for the Fall and use Vetiver Tonka in its place in the Summer.
Grey Vetiver is a good summery choice. Another light, 'grassy', citric one is MPG Racine.

Yup. Exactly what I was going to recommend.

Sycomore by Chanel - a tasteful and refined, all-season fragrance ...
While i agree that Vintage Guerlain's Vetiver is a classic scent that may work at times on the summertime, I do not think it's the best vetiver for intensely hot and humid climates, I do find Guerlain's own Vetiver Eau Glacée much more effective in that sense.

cheers.
Not a vetiver fan, but Creed OV is the pick for summer. I'm missing it lately.
Guerlain's Vetiver is great for summer! That's when I wear it most.

Sel de Vetiver is a great option if it works on your skin. It is not an aquatic at all - it has a tremendous iodine accord that reminds one of table salt, but not the ocean or water.
