Next Purchase: Chanel Allure Homme or Terre D'Hermes?

I'm going to the mall today and I was looking to pickup one of these two fragrances. Which one should I get? Even though I'm in college, I really enjoy Terre D'Hermes even though people say it is for a more mature crowd. It's very rich. Actually got a compliment after sampling it, which is pretty weird cause I don't usually get compliments on "earthy" scents. But Chanel seems like its more versatile and I like it better than the Sport.

Terre D'Hermes
I prefer Allure Homme.
I would take TdH over Allure Homme
Terre d'Hermes easily.

Allure Homme
(original)

Like most grapefruit scents, Terre D'hermes smells like a bathroom cleaner.

Terre d'Hermes is worth purchasing - Chanel Allure Homme is not (nor is any other fragrance with the word Allure in its name).

I like the subtlety with which you bash both I like neither either.

Both are great, but I would go for Allure Homme. It`s much more refined and pleasant than TDH. TDH is a fresh, earthy, dry, "dirty" work-horse scent. I don`t see TDH as a night out / formal scent, but more as a casual everyday scent.
My vote is for TDH - a masterpiece by Jean Claude Ellena
post #11 of 60
Allure honestly would probably be better for your age, but I thoroughly enjoy terre d'hermes more. Again.. if cologne to you is supposed to be a crowd pleaser, go with allure.
I have own both of these and if I have to buy on or the other it would be Chanel Allure Homme. I tried to like Terre D'Hermes many times but never really loved it. It is just ok for me. Allure is a little better option although there are much better scents still.

TdH
TdH for me also.....Gary
Allure all the way
I love both but would go with TdH Pure Parfum
post #17 of 60
For this one, you NEED to go for the one you enjoy most on your skin. Both are good.

(I prefer Terre, but that's besides the point)
Agree with Lobster. I equally like TdH and Allure.

But for the sake of choosing, I'd pick Terre D'Hermes without considering the age. Buy the EDT, then get several Parfum samples from Sephora if you can.

I like Allure hommes top notes and drydown a lot. The mid is a bit spicy.
TdH, a masterpiece. Good in all seasons and at any time with great longevity.

Wow this is tough, it's almost equal from the comments. TdH is definitely the more complex one I can smell the different stages, and it seems really natural. While Allure is a little more fresh and more well rounded. Grrr. I'll think it over.
I have not had the pleasure of trying Allure Homme. However, I have tried TDH... So I would blind buy Allure.
TDH, i am actually trying to sell my allure homme
post #24 of 60
Allure Homme is my recommendation

I concur.
Another one for TdH.
I'd take TDH, though I like both, but TDH is, at least to my nose, a tad more versatile and easy-going, without however smelling too immature, too casual or too generic, it still retains a certain note of mystery and complexity, while fitting most or all age groups, attires, occasions
post #28 of 60
Allure...
Allure Homme. TdH is well regarded on here, but I didn't like it personally
post #30 of 60
Both are among my favorites !!

Both are among my favorites !!

I was at the same crossroads once and I chose allure. If I were to choose again, i'd go with TdH.
I'm not a big fan of the Allure line except Edition Blanche which is fantastic. TdH is a must have.
TDH gets more respect here but I like them both. I would probably go with Allure as the projection and longevity are superb on my skin. ( I could also pick up a half full bottle on ebay for about a quarter the price of a a bottle of TDH)

Without a doubt. Chanel Allure is very much an average fragrance. Terre is in a totally different class.
Allure
Terre d'Hermès by a long shot. The entire Allure line is terrible (some less so than others) and Allure Homme is one of the worst. Terre d'Hermès is, at least, an interesting scent with mass appeal. I recommend the parfum (darker and richer than the EdT).

wait. those two are quite different.

Allure: a bit soapy, a bit fresh, a bit floral, a bit sweet. this one is well rounded. ok for both casual or formal wear.

Terre: more complex, more expensive, more powerful. Masculine without being too formal. not the usual citrus, not the usual woods. might take time to fully appreciate it. (do not overapply)

sounds like TdH is better (and for the most part it is) but the chanel might be easier to wear as it is a safer scent.
Hey OP, what did you end up buying? To throw in my two cents, the original Allure is one of my favorite fragrances and I would really recommend that one. Terre d'Hermes is nice but a little too peppery for me.
Chanel Allure Homme...by far!
Hermes
TdH is the lesser of two evils. it is only "bad" whereas Allure is "teriibly bad".
TdH
Although, I don't like either that much. TdH is by far the winner here.

I choose TdH but I got the 1.7 oz seeing that it only needs a spray or 2 to stay lol. It seems worth the price and it's very unique. I haven't smelled anything like it. But I don't see myself wearing it in the evenings that much. I get like a woody citrusy orange from it...which seems great for the mornings/daytime. Very masculine as well.
Why don't you just buy both and use Terre d'Hemes for the day/office and Allure for the evening?

If only one to choose, I vote for Hermes but I agree that's not an evening scent nor a going out/clubbing scent!
TdH no contest
Terre d'Hermes is a masterpiece, though it is a man's scent and not all that social. Fine for a dignified dinner though. Allure Homme is O.K. but there are much, much better Chanels to buy. For clubbing, I would go in a completely different direction.

I agree whole wholeheartedly
Allure Homme is a favorite. Not too sure about the dry down of terre dhermes.
I like TDH

But I love Allure Homme.

Allure Homme would smell better to an average nose.

TdH
TdH.
Out of the two, TdH. But rather than the Hermes, pick Guerlain Homme L'eau Boisee.
Allure Homme.
Terre D'Hermes, if you want a Chanel go for Platinum Egoiste

I'll look into that one. Guerlain Homme L'eau Boise.

I like Allure better, but own TdH just for the ladies. It's tail that drives my life.
