SotD: Sunday 1st April 2012

Good morning all !. Been a busy few days - glad to be properly back instead of flitting in and out. Spent Friday travelling around Norfolk. Pretty impressed with Wymondham and deemed the abbey worthy of a photo.

Spent yesterday wandering around Kew Gardens amid the blossom, magnolia, and daffs with one or two colourful inhabitants for company -

SotD is Xerjoff Nio

Mike, hope Ray is doing OK

Welcome BellaRose

Wishing everyone a great Sunday with a musical interlude as requested by Lilybelle

Good Morning,

Thanks for the lovely pics and music, Jon.
Welcome BellaRose !

SotD is Yellow Sea.
Anybody fallen victim to an April Fools' Day prank ? I still remember N_Tesla's 'Mitsouko Discontinuation' thread from last year.

Have a lovely Sunday, everyone.

Good morning all,

Very picturesque, Jon!
Welcome BellaRose,
Best wishes to Mike & Ray!

It's time to get those bags packed for tomorrow afternoon. In case I won't have the time to contribute tomorrow - I will be away to Paris until Friday. It's not a trip mainly focused on perfumes, but I do plan to pay the Caron Montaigne Boutique a visit (although no purchase planned - Acaciosa will have to wait yet again), La Maison Guerlain Champs Elysees (I do want to sniff Vega) and Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier, where I want to sniff all those I haven't had a chance to here locally. I feel I need an iris frag in my life, but haven't found mine. If Iris Bleu Gris has Larimar written all over it, I will buy it. Having blown most of my perfumed budget recently with some Guerlain vintage lovelies (Je ne regrette riens. ), it won't be much I'm bringing home. Restaurants are booked... And keeping my fingers crossed for the weather to turn out as predicted today.

SotD: Boxeuses

Bon Voyage, Larimar !
Have a wonderful time, and if you feel yourself starting to flag from all that walking and sniffing, stop by the caféothèque ( rue de l'Hôtel de Ville ) for an espresso or two

Hello all. Habanita.

Good morning, gentlemen! Seems like our ladies are still getting their beauty sleeps again.

Yep, do not regret anything, L.: it is better to regret something you have done than something you have never attempted to. (See, how there is a part of "temptation" in the "attempt"?)

E., I hope you can read my last night's post and answer some questions. I love me some old man Patrick M.

No.5 Eau Premiere day today.

Stay well.

Happy April Fool's Day everyone. I admit I actually forgot...............
Good morning everyone!

Glorious day, perfectly suited to the cloud of glorious vintage-80s Oscar de la Renta I'm currently engulfed in. I've always thought of this as L'Heure Bleue's younger, flirtier and much more cheerful sister. Y'all have a great day!

BTW, while marking my SotD territory today, my SotD is the only we two are wearing in the whole world -- Twolf/E/Twolf/E/Twolf. How cool is that?

I thought this might catch your attention - I know you like your Mauboussin. I hadn't heard of Mauboussin Pour Elle, but I saw a display when we were in Australia and I was quite drawn to the bottle. I bought it after a very cursory sniff ...as close as I like to come to a blind buy, but I wanted a fragrant souvenir (and I wasn't impressed by Tommi Sooni, lol.) But it's hot in Melbourne in January, and since it's a semi-gourmand, I think it's much better suited to cooler weather, so I didn't give it a full wearing ...not until last night, actually. Anyway, MpE is not at all like Fancy or Fantasme ...to my nose, this fruity-floral is poised somewhere between Miss Dior Chérie and Euphoria. The caramel note reminds me of MDC - it's buttery and creamy rather than candy-like. I'm not sure what's giving me the Euphoria message...red berries? But the most intriguing note is definitely the rhubarb - I'd like to smell this more in perfumery. Patchouli isn't in any lists of notes I've seen, but I sense something herbal giving this very well-blended and smooth composition texture. It's more interesting and elegant than MDC, and more refined than Euphoria, more nuanced, but I sure wish it had Euphoria's staying power. It's frustratingly short-lived, but so very nice while it lasts - it garnered two compliments last night! I don't get the musk you mention, but that doesn't mean it's not there. The floral notes aren't aggressive, but there's definitely a jasmine and orange blossom presence. I really need to get to know it more, but I should put it away until the weather starts cooling off again. (I'll be in Milw. for a few days in the next several weeks, and that's where my decanting supplies are so I'll be happy to send you some!)

kalli - haha! You got me, too!

Safe and happy travels, Larimar - have a great time!
I'm wearing my own concoction, L'Air du Shannon. It has notes of blood orange, heliotrope, and dark amber. Today I've layered it over a dab of Avignon to give it a bit of a incense bite.

E, I agree with you about Oscar ... it always has reminded me of a sunnier LHB. How was the live jazz last night? Did you run into many KU basketball fans? So far, NOLA has been very good to the Jayhawks! <crossing my fingers for one more win!>

Safe travels to Larimar ... Jon, LOVE the peacock picture! ... Happy Sunday everyone!

Hey shades - I remember you agreeing with that Oscar/L'HB comparison once before - it's just like L'Heure Bleue remade for a sunny day, isn't it!?! I'm always shocked that nobody mentions that (very obvious, imo) connection, but then nobody seems to wears Oscar much anymore, lol. And I meant to mention those fans - I had no idea basketball was something so many people actually watched...and were willing to travel for, lol!! But they've all been on their best behavior, the rowdy lot of 'em, haha! The jazz is always pretty great around here ...blues, too. You just have to follow your ears ...no matter what sort of seedy ol' dive you stumble into, you're likely in for a treat! Thanks for askin'!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, too - Go Jayhawks!

Wearing me own today. Went to the theme-park this morning for a few coasters and lunch. It's already in the mid 80's and I am in Cathedral in Flames. The incense is kickin!

Jon, Thank you for the lovely pics and the Mozart. When I don’t feel quite right, when I feel tired or cranky, Mozart like no other soothes the beast inhabiting the body that otherwise belongs to Lilybelle.

Larimar, wishing you a lovely time in Paris!

I was in the house of Goutal with Tdem this morning in Musc Nomade.

This afternoon, it is Spiritueuse Double Vanille, thanks very much to a thoughtful Basenoter.

Hi, Fleurine, that's an April Fool's joke ! Ha hah !!

I first read it this morning in one of my French Lessons websites. Since I am not quoting directly, I can mention it here: Laura Lawless came up with the story that the French Government has decided to step out of the Euro zone and print their own money ... How to name it ? "Argentine" ? Non, "le Dollaire" !! To indicate the French/American relationship.

Did you believe it ? Le Dollaire ?! She almost had me. Good joke.

After an excellent morning of tennis, this afternoon and evening will be spent in Chanel Coromandel. Always lovely.

(((Mike & Ray))), feel better soon, Ray.

Jon, loved the photos!

And Larimar, safe travels. Hope you have a fantastic time!

Wearing Cristalle EDT and baking a rhubarb streusel crisp type thingie. It's kind of a cross of a few different types of desserts. We grow rhubarb and everything else here organically so technically, this is healthy. A little healthy, anyway.

*Dora*, I am going to steal your SotD for my evening, do you mind?

I heard it from my friend after church, and I thought that would be sad if true...thanks goodness it's a joke.

Insolence edt again. Lovely raspberry-violets. Hubby hates it, he says it is “stinky”, but he says that about most of them.

Late to the party, as I went scentless today anticipating a mall trip.

At the mall, I sprayed on some Dior Homme, having read on BN that it is a very nice iris for women-- and you know, it is! I've been enjoying smelling my arm for the past hour and a half.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Went with one of my samples today, Sonoma Scent Studio -Nostaglie.

I am NOT wearing sample A -- instead, I am wearing Crystal Flowers by Montale for two days in a row. Eureka! Don't love it in Winter, don't love it in the Summer, do love love love it on a rainy Spring day. And we have plenty of those here -- seems like Spring will never ever come. Sigh.

(((PerfumedLady))), thank you for keeping my spot warm, dear!

Hello all...

Yesterday, I layered L'Occitane Peony and AG Rose Absolue. It was an experiment, but it was actually quite nice!

Today, I am sampling Bond No. 9 Fire Island. Trying to decide if I like it. It's kind of...not quite what I was expecting. Interesting....
