One for me, one for my homie: is there a scent that's off limits?

So, today would have been my father's 80th birthday, the man who introduced me to the world of fragrance and more specifically YSL and Pour Homme, a signature scent if there ever was one. As long as I will live, I will never wear that scent, respecting that as his and his alone.

Is there a scent that you won't wear because it's tied to a specific person or event? I know scent is a strong evoker of memory, but I'm talking beyond this.

I'm curious if there are others who share my belief?

I have no scents tied to a specific person or event that I would not wear.

my grandmother always smelled like Shalimar, so I guess if my wife started wearing it, it would feel weird for me

Not yet haha. Maybe after a few bad fragrance related breakups, I'll start kicking the habit

In a previous relationship, stemming back six years ago, I was forbidden from wearing AdG because that's what her ex wore. I thank her for snapping me out of that and finding something more original for myself I could see myself having a similar feeling but only with frags that my grandmother and mother wear/wore. As for ex's, if it smells good, it smells good

Like you spcmiller, I connect Aramis to my dad. He wore that and Grey Flannel. But instead of abstaining, I own both of these, and wear them on the anniversary of his passing and birthday.

T by Tommy Hilfiger. My brother used to wear this for a brief period of time and then just left it in the toilet cabinet. It's been there for at least 10 years (still there) and the thing has just turned absolutely rancid. Plus, it was never a good scent to begin with.

I think this is a good way to remember someone. My Mother had some turquoise jewelry made for her when she graduated from high school. I wear the bracelet once a year, on her birthday.

There is no scent I won't wear because of another individual.

That is a wonderful testament to your dad, I think, but understand if others don't agree.

I have no scents I avoid due to association.

Once, there was a time during my personal past when I avoided wearing a certain scent because of the memories/persons associated with it, but in the meantime, even the scents I intended to avoid for good managed to eventually create far more pleasant than unpleasant memories, so now I am back enjoying them, having forgotten or almost forgotten any unpleasant association

I can't ever remember any of my relatives always smelling strongly of a certain fragrance so my answer would be no.
