Chinatown gift shop scent??

Hello scent community. I've noticed over the years that every time I walk into a gift shop at any Chinatown worldwide, there's a sweet, flowery scent in the air that really brightens my mood. I sometimes smell it on older Asian ladies. It's not offensive at all, just clean and beautiful. I wanna say there's some sandalwood or patchouli in it but that could apply to millions of scents. I'm guessing there are some exotic flowers in it though.

Btw, every time I ask the Chinese clerks they say "they don't know what it is?" and one lady told me it was the scent of everything in the store, i.e, soaps, incense, etc... Can anyone with an expert nose help me out??

Could it the ubiquitous sandalwood soap ?

( This soap also reminds me of Narcisse Noir - can you believe that.... )

Thanks Mimi! I've tried that soap. Smells amazing, but it's not quite 'that' scent. It's almost a cross between that soap and the green B&F label soap, forgot which scent that one is?? I think gardenia? Please correct me.

It's jasmine - so maybe you need to get both ?
I swear the sandalwood soap has jasmine and orange blossom in it too which is why it reminds me of Narcisse Noir ?

There is a tiny white flower that the Chinese love to wear in their hair. We saw it in China.
Looked like jasmine but more rounder or cylindrical in shape.

Slightly off topic bc I found Hem Maa Durga incense in an Indian shop, not in China town, and I kinda like it... Quite relaxing.

Perhaps the old-fashioned florida water? or like your friend said, it could be come from all that stuff at the store, scented-fans, incenses, soap, etc etc..
