Tom Ford Noir De Noir is just freaking unbelievable

I just received this 4 ml sample of noir de noir... I haven't even done a full wear of this one yet, but just sniffing it on my wrist is just freaking unbelievable... Smells so good... The dark rose note is just lovely... I think I am in Love with this one... Noir De Noir is a Super Model in my book... I give this one A perfect 10 even before doing a full wear...
Yeah, it's a great scent. Much more versatile than Tobacco Vanille IMO. I get a sweet chocolaty rose vibe.
Glad you like it! One of his best offerings from the Private Blend line.
This one has surpassed TV on my fave Tom Ford fragrances list.

Agree. I love this one as well and as much as I love TV, it is more versatile.
Yeah noir is beautiful juice

It just means it's a perfume I want very much ! I'll get Noir de Noir eventually .
I might even like it more than Rose 31. Noir Noir is one of my favorite Tom Fords with Tuscan leather and Tobacco Vanille.
This thread makes me more determined to try this scent.

Hopefully TPC or STC get their stuff sorted so I can get some of this
post #12 of 82
I'm watching these samples on ebay actually haha. Once i get a bit more cash, i'll try a sample. It sounds so smellifully wonderful.

What I get out of Noir de Noir is.... Amouage Epic Woman and Le Labo Rose 31...
Noir de Noir is probably my favorite from the Tom Ford Private Blends. It's becoming one of my favorites for evening wear.
Yes, it rocks.

Can't you try it at the Tom Ford counter in DJ's Bris?
Agreed - intoxicating scent!
Glad I have a bottle its amazing. A masterpiece to my nose.
I really like Noir de Noir when I first sampled it. Will go to Nieman Marcus just to spray it again.... don't have the budget to buy a bottle yet.
Best masculine rose I've tried, IMO. Also, Tobacco Vanille used to be my favorite... until I started wearing Noir de Noir.

Ah good to know theres a place you can actually buy FB's from, usually dont do much shopping in the city and none of the other DJ's stores have them.

I actually have zero doubt I will like the scent more just a case of acquiring a spray sized sample which is where tpc et al usually come in, as I dont imagine DJ's are going to hand that out Whoever mentioned ebay isnt far off the mark, seems like theres at least 2 reliable sellers on there with a few mls of this stuff so yay
post #22 of 82
Fully agree - NdN is just fantastic stuff and practically free compared to by Killian's Rose Oud - and to my nose, Rose Oud can't hold a candle to NdN.
Didn't someone once compare one of the Armani Prive's to this scent (I think it was Redneck Perfumisto) saying that he preferred the Prive, slightly? I think it was Royal Oud that was being compared..
I appreciate it, but my first impression was a sort of loud and extremely feminine perfume that I've smelled before on old women. There is no way I'd wear this.
I generally will wear what I like, regardless of gender classification. But how "unisex" is this one? Is it neutral or does it lean on the feminine side?

Leans a bit more on feminine side imo, but great nonetheless!
I'll get this one day
I love it, I sometimes add a spritz of Tuscan Leather to give a slight masc edge to it but regardless, this will always be my number one TF PB. Longevity and projection of this is also amazing.
I found it nauseating .... at first, I tried hard to like it , but something about it turned me off.

First, it smells like alcohol and roses. Roses in liquor.

I don't want to smell like I'm drunk, I don't drink actually and the smell is very alcoholy, and the roses ..... just nauseates me now and dislike the scent. Feels tacky and inappropriate in every way.

Feminine, but I wouldn't want a girl I'm with to smell like this. It's something a call girl would wear.

+1 to Guerlain L'Instant, I didn't like it at first but now really like it after actually wearing it, instead of simply smelling it from the sample.
When I tried it a month ago on my recent Vegas sampling binge I found it wearable but it did not impress me and also was not to my personal preferences (nor have any of the other Tom Fords save Tobacco Vanille, for that matter). Glad it clicked with you though, change1. I am always happy to see a fellow basenoter find a scent that works perfectly to their tastes...
It always makes a major impression on my girlfriend. She's borderline obsessed with it.
I tested it, but found the rose far too feminine prevalent and dominant in this frag and did anyone get a chocolate kind of vibe in the dry down ?

Really tried to appreciate my 2 ml sample with 2 wearings, but this stuff is too feminine for my taste - sorry

I'll rate it 3/6 because it does seem very well composed with high quality ingredients, but not even a unisex perfume in my view. A girly ladies perfume.

Very sorry to hear that. I'll be happy to take it off your hands

Its rose, saffron, truffle opening is borderline feminine and masculine. As it develops through the middle stage, its patchouli and oud notes dirty it up and give it a more masculine vibe. Then, its vanilla note joins in the dry down stage and gives it a little bit of a really smooth and not too sweet chocolate vibe.

Same exact reaction (but only tested it on paper) and the chocolate-y drydown reminded me a bit of LIDGE (but a lighter version of it probably because of the rose or something). Overall a very nice scent but I probably wouldn't be able to wear it everyday (a bit too feminine IMO).

Just got my StC order and my few ml's of this stuff...OP couldnt have said it better. So god damn goood.

LOL, I totally agree. When I first smelled it, it seemed very familiar and reminded me of a loud, plasticy rose perfume you might notice at a strip club.

I seriously can't imagine this on a guy.

Each to their own, I think Tom Ford Extreme smells like an older ladies perfume and yet last month in a mens style mag it was put in the top 10 mens designer fragrances..
this is on my next to buy list!
I went ahead and got 100 mls of Noir de Noir - love the rose , vanilla, oudy saffron patchouli .

Awesome, congrats Mimi.

The more I wear this the more I love it. Its sex in a bottle.
I wore this today and two of the directors loved it...I don't want to tell them what it is...find your own damn niche scents

LOL, can you believe it?
But anyway, I quit being afraid of rose scents a long time ago, and NdN is fantastic IMO. It has some similarities with Lady Vengeance, I must say.
And about Redneck Perfumisto's recommendation, the Armani Rose d'Arabie, I sniffed it briefly while in London, and it is indeed a (very expensive) really nice fragrance, but it reminded me more of, say, Al Siraj by Arabian Oud or one of those good rose/saffron attars than of NdN...

Noir de Noir is a beautiful scent. My favorites from the Private Blend line in order are:

Tuscan Leather

Noir de Noir

Amber Absolute

Tobacco Vanille
I've just sampled this one and find it a bit too feminine. It's certainly an unusual scent, I'll give it more time
post #47 of 82
Hmmmm I want a sample of this
I received 8ml of this a while back and was instantly put off by the smell. No chance in the world that this can be masculine, my wife agreed, so I gave it to her. When she wears it, I am not a big fan at all, and apparently others aren't either. I've literally seen two times when people curled up their nose in disgust when they walked past her. Super cloying, and a very strange peppery sour wine smell. That's the best way to describe it for me.
I'm guessing it's the "oud" in this that gives it the chocolate vibe, because a quick sniff definitely gives off a chocolate-y rose, but when I smell it closer it looses the chocolate and smells more like...uh...what I guess oud smells like (never smelled real oud)

Regardless, this stuff is crazy good and anyone who dismisses it for being feminine I think is missing out.

Some people still think that Dior Homme doesn't smell feminine. To each their own.

I really had high hopes for Noir De Noir, but was just completely shocked on how unappealing it was (on a man or woman).
This is one of the best of the TF PB line.
Agreed on the hype regarding NdN. Just for interest, I decided to do a masculine rose comparison this evening. Ironically, the one purposefully marketed to women (Histoires de Parfums Mata Hari) surfaced as the most masculine to my nose (for its darkness), followed by Lyric Man by Amouage (the spice helps butch up what would be an otherwise powdery rose-raisin accord). Side by side, I found Noir de Noir to be the (slightly) sweeter and more feminine-leaning scent. Still, because of its balance and superior blending, NdN may be the most beautiful (if less durable) of the three.

And then I immediately ventured off in search of a decant, because I think your grandma smells awesome, especially when she's been drinking chocolate liquor.
I'm perplexed that, despite my love for the TF Private line, I've yet to experience this one.

And I'm also perplexed at the almost 50/50 mix of praise and upset for this scent. I must admit, I've never come across a single rose fragrance I've ever enjoyed. I've tried some Tauer roses, Lyric Man, Noir Patchouli (HdP), a couple Montales. Rose will forever be a grandmother smell to me. It is the unsexiest note in perfumery as far as I'm concerned. I still want to sample NdN but from what I can tell the rose is fairly upfront so I, personally, am not expecting much.
Another one to try, if you like Noir de Noir, is 100% Love. Same chocolate rose style, but 100% might be a little more strange than NdN. I had samples of both and blew through the 100% in no time and am still working on the NdN. I think NdN is the more "mainstream" of the two and I guess, if actions speak louder than words, I prefer the 100% as I used it up quite quickly. If I had to purchase a TF fragrance (I don't own one yet and likely never will - something about his "cultural stylemaker / tastemaker" vibe that doesn't reasonate with me), it would be NdN. Personally, I would wear it out in the evenings, not to work or to church, but to each his own. My 4 ml sample will likely last me for my lifetime as it is long lasting and concentrated.

I'd recommend you skip this one. If you're not a fan of Rose you're not going to be a fan of this fragrance.

Shiseido's Zen Original is the darkest and most masculine rose I have experienced. I love NdN, but Zen is stunning. Give it a try.....
I used to think this is too feminine but I have changed my mind now and love the scent! I can't wait to purchase a full bottle!

100% Love is definitely stranger than NdN! They do share some distinctive notes in common, and yet I find the two fragrances to be quite different. To me, 100% Love it a lot foodier, especially at the top. But it's also got something that smells rancid to me, again especially at the top. I love NdN, but I have to say I don't enjoy 100% Love much at all.
I love NdN, it's probably my favourite Private Blend by far, I also love Bois Marocain and Champaca Absolute (neither of which get much hype). NdN's truffle and Oud make it far too dark and dirty for a Lady in my opinion, it's got a sweetness but the rose is much too liqueur-like and heavy to be feminine. None of the women-friends I have asked would consider wearing it (because they thought it was a men's frag) but I have had lots of compliments from all sexes whenever I wear it.

Champaca Absolute is a brilliant summer scent though, especially for evenings sipping drinks at a beach bar, it smells like the tropics to me.
Of course I bought this blindly because I didn't want to miss out on something great. I sprayed it once on my hand and.............it's not love. I smell rose and something akin to plastic. Think this one is a grower? lol
