I have wondered for a long time what the demographics are here. And to keep this fragrance related, how long have you been into fragrances and how much has your taste changed?
I'm 27. Always enjoyed fragrances but on a very casual basis. Only ever had 1 or 2 bottles at any one time. That changed in October last year. I found Basenotes and it took off from there. Now own 40+ bottles and my taste/nose is developing at a rate of knots!

Probably a good idea you didn't make this a public poll.
I am too old and I have been into fragrances for far too long.
Fragrance has been a hobby for me - for 47 years now.

16, got interested around November last year when I got a decant of One Million and The Dreamer. I have loved wearing cologne ever since way back then when my brother gave me his bottle of Eternity but not to the same extent I do now. I guess my taste hasn't changed much, I enjoyed sweeter fragrances back then and I still do now.

39 y/o with about 29 years of off/on collecting.

21, started gaining interest in fragrances a year ago. My curiosity got the best of me, and eventually I started building a small collection....I attribute my initial interest into these waters to an Ask Men article about male fragrances and there was the best looking bottle I had seen up to that point (Midnight in Paris) and I was like "I've got to get this." Of course sampling some other scents is what kicked off the hobby for real.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEN!!!!!

Well, Let's just say I've been 20 a couple of times, and been into fragrances as far back as I can remember.
I've been to fragrances - mostly designer - for more than 2 decades since I was in my early teen.
52. Always had a liking for fragrances, but only serious over the past 6-7 years.

Happy Birthday!!! Hope you were gifted a bottle, even if you got it from yourself.

I’m 53 and I’ve been into fragrances ever since my little paws could reach my mother’s dressing table. I distinctly remember that blue stopper on the Shalimar bottle. It was that that first caught my attention, and shortly afterward it was the magical potions inside those bottles that enchanted! My preferences are continually changing and evolving, even now.

Young at heart but getting long in the tooth !
I've loved and worn fragrance for a long time but only really became a fanatic a few years ago .
going to be 31 soon...in fragrances since 2001 , few breaks in between
post #23 of 51
27. I've liked cologne ever since I was a young teen. I upgraded from Preferred Stock to Curve when I was 18. I upgraded from Curve to Acqua Di Gio and Burberry Brit when I was 22. I really got into fragrances and started collecting last year while searching for a discontinued cologne I wanted. My search took me here to BN where I read reviews on it and other faves of mine. Now I'm hooked!

39. On and off for years but only seriously for the last 3-4 years.
41 y/o. Only been into fragrances for about two years. Before that just had one bottle , Le Male. When the college students I work with started telling me I smelled like their dad I thought it might be time to switch it up. Designers led to niche and now I'm officially an addict .
38 years old. Owned maybe 10 bottles in my lifetime until 3 to 4 years ago.
29 years old for another 7 months then I hit the medium in size three OH.

But what is age? Nothing but a number to gauge, to assess and control. A tool and not a very good one either.

29. Have liked fragrance since 12 years old (Brut and Grey Flannel). Only seriously collecting for a couple years.
Twenty-four here... I've loved good smelling things always, but really, barely wore any fragrance until I was twenty and came here.

Then I went nuts.
I'm 15 and been into fragrances for more than 250 years (in one of my previous lives I was John Henry Creed).
I'm surprised at how young the Basenotes populace is.

Fun thought: 40.91% of us couldn't vote when Basenotes was founded.
Slight off-topic correction: thanks for all early birthday wishes. I hereby correct my mistake by explaining that, "as of today" meant in this case not that I just turned 28, but simply "currently 28", in fact I'll be turning 29 in August.

But even this slight misunderstanding prompted me to realize something more about the age of fragrance wearers and about Basenotes demographics: time flies by so pleasantly, so entertainingly and accumulating years of age is less of a strain, less of a chore with fragrances and thanks to fragrances in one's life - one can feel so young at any age, partially because of the fragrance hobby.

I'm in the middle of 30's and I've been into fragrances for over 10 years (like them since I was 20)
I'm 25 and bought my first fragrance when at 17 (after I got my first salary), but I've been into fragrances for as long as I can remember.
I'm 21 and I've been into them since I was around 10 or 11, I'd say. In the last 3 years or so I've been getting really into them.

Exactly! I tend to think of all of us as being about the same age. The "youngest" of us seem very mature, and the "oldest" seem very young-at-heart, so I end up just forgetting about age. One of the things which I find fascinating is that the "youngest" people often seem to be incredible sources of knowledge and considered opinion, not to mention having really sensitive noses. People often talk about the failure of schools today, but you sure wouldn't think that, reading the posts around here.

LOL good one.
I was born in 1980, which makes me 25 years old!

I've been into fragrances since I was 16'ish.
technically speaking, I've been into cologne since middle school (I was wearing safari of all things in 8th grade I think lol), but I wasn't a serious collector until about 8 years ago maybe(?)
I am 28 and I have been into fragrance for more than 10 years, I have started collecting perfumes last year.

When I was young, I was only limite to Citrus, Light and Aquatic scents, but time have change my taste. Now I wear variety of scents, from designer to niche, light to heavy.
I'm 25 and have been interested in all things scented for as long as I can remember. Enjoyed crappy fragrances as a preteen and have since graduated to bigger and better stuff. I've been completely obsessed for about 4 years, since discovering Basenotes.

On my budget, I keep more of a rotation than a collection. But I want mooooore!
I'm 17, been into frags for about a year now
post #48 of 51
I'm 39, and I've been into frags for just under 6 months. Prior to that, I had bottles of PE that would last for seven year stretches. I'm pretty sure one of them even got moldy before I could finish it. Or was just covered in some vicious bathroom schmutz.
30 and into designer fragrances for about 12 years, but niche only for a few months.
too old/not long enough
Old enough to know people well but young enough to still being frighten and amazed by them.
