If one loves Guerlain's L'Heure Bleue is it worth to check out Insolence?

Hi,

if one loves Guerlain's L'Heure Bleue, as a guy, is it worth to check out Insolence?

And if so, the EDT or the EDP

Thanks for your help!

Definitely check out Insolence.
I can't do the EDP becasue I find it too strong for me but I love and have the EDT . The EDT reminds me more of Apres L'Ondee though.
These are past threads on Basenotes about the similarities of Insolence in relation to L'Heure Bleue .

what kind of a guy you are?? i just can not imagine Insolence on a guy!!! its so sos femminine, EDP is nice , EDT is like hairspray to me, EDP i have adore it, and it has such a perfect sillage, drydown, its so so powerful, but not for a man, unless you are gay.....-insolence EDP smells on a fruit called raspberry? its like blackbarry but this red one )

The Insolence in the EDT and the EDP are two different creations, with the EDP as an over-the-top version. The Guide calls the EDP a "godzilla floral."

As for all scents, do try first. The violet and fruit might be too much for some men.

However, if you like L'Heure Bleue and Apres L'Ondee, do try the Insolence. (The My Insolence, however, is very much a sweet candy floral with no relation to the original Insolence, which is based on the 1912 L'Heure Bleue.)

This as peaked my interest with the mention of violets and raspberry.

Are the violets akin to those in Meteorites?

How is the raspberry presented? Are the sweet OT tart? The idea of tart, sharp natural raspberry with a sweet violet sound lovely

Hmm.. I just applied some Insolence edt from my mini .This seems more floral apparent than fruity and on my skin at least this is more a gardinia with violet accenting(could be why Mimi loves this version).

Probably not for me then. EL Tuberose Gardenia satisfies that section of my wardrobe needs.

I'm loving the Meteorites I found on line the Parma violets aspect is perfect for powdery moments but I would like tart raspberry in there to open it out more

What about L'Heure Bleue on a man? I find it perfectly wearable, easily so, and am under the impression women like it on a guy.

So far only a few female perfumes didn't suit me, Lolita Lempicka, Angel, 24 Gold (unisex), HM (marketed to men :-P )

Thanks for the links, Mimi Gardenia, will get on it now.

I don't know Apres L'Ondee, I'm afraid, but will read up on it.

L'Heure Bleue is a unisex because of the muted herbal Guerlainade that tones down any screeching white florals.

Any many can wear L'Heure Bleue, and the EDP can be like a powerhouse due to longevity and sillage! The EDT is much lighter. To be honest, men can wear anything they choose if if pleases them. Don't let the marketing deter you.

I wear anything I choose based on scent alone, and it's no one's business but my own what is written on the bottle.

Wear your LHB and be happy, Russel!

I would love to smell it on a man. A scented man is better than no scent at all, IMO.

ok so insolence EDP wont suit you too , becasue it goes in that direction like angel, lolita....its strong feminine scent! i am female and it was too femminine for me too...so really sorry but men cant wear this!....ok mabye men that wear fracas can wear anything

apres londe , lheure bleue are more classics and they can be unisex....but insolence no!!...also insolence EDT is not as good aas EDP, thats a fact.....its more artificial, EDP is like syrupy raspberry and sweet violets

people who really like VIOLETs should try then Serge Lutens.... Un bois de violett.....this could be great stuff!, unf i never tried just read how great it is ) and i suppose it could be unisex..or it is unisex...

Russel- you should sample then decide what YOU think of ANY scent on you. I'll wage LB smells great on you.
As Primrose said- avoid "My Insolence" which is very un-Guerlain like- a HUGE opening of potent candy, followed by a headache, in my experience.
The Insolence Eau Glacee is also nice, but it reminds me more of Apres L'ondee (violets)

As far as the Insolence is concerned, I definitely prefer the edp to the edt, you just have to spray lightly. The edt is harsher and not as balanced as the edp. I know several men that have worn Insolence and it smells great on them, if you try it and like it, wear it, doesn't matter if some feel it's just for women. Wear what makes you happy.

Meteorites is a very nice violet fragrance, but extremely hard to find.

If you haven't tried Apres L'Ondee you really should. It's a wonderful fragrance, one of Guerlain's best and one of my personal favorites.

I own and wear Insolence, Apres L'Ondee, and L'Heure Bleue. So does my very masculine male partner. And I like a bit of Angel edt on him, for um, private enjoyment....

The only scents he "icks" away from, on personal preference, not gender, are JOY and the some other big florals. Fracas he likes though.

Insolence--I only have a sample come to think of it. And it is edt. I must now get the edp. I think I am addicted to Guerlain....

Russel - I don't see why you should not wear L'Heure Bleue or Insolence . I would love to smell them on a man .
Bookwyrmsmith - I just cannot handle the strength of Insolence EDP - I get migraines . With the EDT - I can at least make out some notes ! *LOL* I get a really sweet raspberry - not cheap though and then violets . I just love the dry down of the EDT.

Karma, if you're addicted to Guerlain, you are not the only one!

Mimi, I think there is something in Insolence EDP that rubs people the wrong way.

The DH thinks it is horrible!

And I do agree that LHB would be wonderful on a man. In fact, it's my scent of the day and a neighbor commented on it!

I know this is unsolicited advice, but if you enjoy L'HB, you should really check out (if you haven't already) Caron's Tabac Blond (the current version), Knize Ten, Creed's Royal English Leather, and (if there's any chance you haven't ) Mitsouko extrait... All of these share a similar old-fashiond-but-still-awesome doughy suede note.

Thanks, rogalal. Knize Ten is another one I love. Will try and check out the others. I only know Mitsouko EDT so far, I enjoy it quite a bit.

I think anyone who admires L'Heure Bleue should at least give Insolence a sniff (I would recommend the EDP).

You may not want to wear it, necessarily, (being quite a 'big' scent), but it's worth the ride just to see how a maestro like Roucel can take the idea of such a beautiful classic composition, strap it onto a rocket then blast it off to explode overhead and fill the night sky with a million shards of violet and purple light.

I sincerely hope I get to try the L'Heure Bleue 2012 + Three Variations on Theme from Wasser to celebrate the centenary but I can't help wondering if Monsieur Roucel might have already beat him to the punch for the ultimate LHB tribute?

PS Russel, you might like Bois de Copaiba from PG.

Yes! That’s it! I wear the edt. I don’t know the edp. The edt has a very long lasting, sweet dry down, clear into the next day unless I shower it off. But it’s the raspberry violet sparkles that make me feel happy.

I have my hands over my ears and I'm making white noise to stop me now wanting to try Insolence as I'm craving raspberries and violets but I'm going to use my Meteorites to satisfy this craving

The raspberries are quite clear to my nose. You might want to make a test spray of this.

There is also raspberry in the original La Petite Robe Noire, along with tea and rose. Even though this is a candy scent at first spray, it's very much a Guerlain in the drydown:

Sicilian lemon, almonds and anise
Rose, raspberry and licorice
Vanilla, patchouli, smoked tea and musk.

Alityke, you may want to cover your ears tighter for what I'm about to say. I get no, absolutely zero gardenia from Insolence. I really dislike gardenia, wouldn't wear Insolence if I could pick it out. Lots of violets and raspberries, along with some rose and a touch of Guerlainade. Not as powdery as Meteorites to my nose; certainly make-upy in that same way but really more fruity and tart.

I think Lilybelle has put it perfectly (you truly are in love aren't you?), love the "million shards of violet and purple light". You may find it too overwhelming to wear as a man but maybe not, some guys do enjoy it. I think it is a must sniff for those who love LHB, along with Apres l'Ondee. To me, the three are very close family.

I think, Insolence is an option if you're into violets, i.e. if you like e.g. Après l'ondée.
Actually Insolence is said to have been designed as a tribute to Après l'ondée (anniversary - like this year we have l'heure bleue anniversary and at Guerlain they are planning a tribute as well).
So, imo Insolence is not comparable to l'Heure Bleue. L'heure bleue ist spicier, more "adult" while insolence is bright and flowery, more "girly".
I'm a lover of l'Heure Bleue but not of Insolence - although I like the EdP on my mum. The EdT is awful imo (when I was a kid we used to have toothpaste for children with exactly the same smell).
