Where To Buy Perfume Ingredients

Hi everyone,

I am doing a photo shoot for a perfume magazine as part of my Final Major Project as part of my BA course.

The idea is to visually dissect perfumes into their top, heart and base notes using the actual ingredients.

I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get perfume ingredients like sandalwood, labdanum, etc. in smaller quantities and at an ideally fair price?

Thanks so much!

Hi Carla,

This thread has a list of suppliers.

I've purchased ingredients from Camden Grey, The Perfumer's Apprentice, Eden Botanicals, CreatingPerfume.com & SilkyScents. Happy with all purchases. HTH!

You're not going to just shoot a load of different oils are you? (Maybe you are!) I'm imagining you would want the actual materials the perfume ingredients are derived from (which could be expensive and time consuming).

If it's raw materials you were after then check out scents-of-earth.com for lots of visually interesting incense materials like sandalwood chips and oakmoss. And then I suppose you could just pluck a few roses and things from someones garden. Or a florist.

Lump of labdanum: ebay.

I have thought about doing something visual about perfume ingredients myself actually.

Hi Renegade,

Yes, shhoting the raw materials is exactly what I wanted to do.

I have managed to source a few things already such as sandalwood chippings and the labdanum looks really interesting as well.

Let me know if you would like any help with your own visual project as well!

Tears of olibanum (frankincense) would look interesting too. You might even be able to get someone to loan you a piece of ambergris or oudh, which both look very unusual and less obvious choices than the flowers people not in the business mostly associate with perfume. If you could get hold of a bergamot orange that looks pretty strange as well, but they are not easy to find outside of Calabria so that might be too difficult unless you have a friend there (or perhaps someone here?).

Good project!

I'm wondering why you're posting small snippets of other people's posts seemingly at random? How strange.
