Which of These for a Spring / Summer Scent

Hello - I am looking to add a new scent to my collection. I would like one that is long lasting, plesant but not overpowering, and appreciated by others. I'm thinking of one of the following:

  • Bleu de Chanel
  • Platinum Egoiste
  • YSL La Nuit

Of these, which one do you think would best suit my desire? Or is there another one that you would recommend? Thanks!

Bleu and PE

All three are good choices but out of them Bleu de Chanel

For spring/summer out of those three, I'd choose Platinum Egoiste. If it was for colder weather, then La Nuit. I'm just not that crazy over Bleu.

Bleu de Chanel by Chanel - One is immediately greeted with a very fresh, citrus pas de trois by the tangy orange tree, the tart lemon tree and the zesty grapefruit. Warm pink peppercorn as well as a well-developed peppermint join in to make a very crisp cocktail as it flows to the waiting middle. Wonderfully, spicy and sweet nutmeg and a somewhat penetrating ginger, floating on an ethereal cloud of sweet jasmine, subsume the delightful opening. The lighthearted heart is drawn to the strong, woody base with its dry cedar and bright and fresh sandalwood, along with a smattering of evocative incense. The welcoming base is augmented by patchouli with its slight peppery, herbaceous aspects, vetiver with its earthy grassiness as well as radiant labdanum imparting a sweet and salty, vegetal, mossy facet. Thence, the resplendent base meanders to its soft drydown. Really an all-season scent thriving in spring, summer and fall, this mainstream scent is subtly nuanced enough to set it apart. This pleasantly refreshing composition has good longevity and good projection.

but try as well:

Sycomore by Chanel - Upon application, one is treated to a stimulating wave of hesperidic notes, with their inherent tangerine, orange, bergamot and lemon flavors; aldehydes heigthen their sparkliness. Riding the crest of this citrus swell, haitian vetiver imparts its green and smoky facets. A faint anise bobs about. Carried to the waiting middle, fruity and shyly spicy pink pepper showers the airy and bitter vetiver, and is married with the fresh and clean woodiness of cypress, while a hint of sensual jasmine and haunting frankincense waft about. Transitioning to the welcoming base, creamy sandlewood, dry cedar and pine needle-like juniper encase the rooty vetiver, as delicate ylang-ylang lightly mists the lush and woodsy melange adding a trace of powder, and orris masterfully impregnates the concoction with its wet, earthy and slight violet-like facets. With a feebly sour and warm musk flickering, and a sweet and balsamic styrax adding a kiss of vanilla, an exquisite drydown ensues. This elegant composition befits a gentleman. A tasteful and refined, all-season fragrance, it has average projection and good longevity.

eh, platinum egoiste has no lasting power whatsoever, at least on me. I guess I'd go with the Bleu de Chanel friend.

out of those 3...Bleu

I really like La Nuit but not for Spring/Summer. Maybe at night time but not for day.

IMO you have MUCH better options in your wardrobe: GIT, Fahrenheit, Grey Vetiver, Live Jazz, Terre d'Hermes they are all versatile and suitable for spring/summer (maybe Fahrenheit would be too much during very hot summer day but rest is perfect!)

GIT is much better alternative to Platinum Egoiste (for fresh floral), Bleu De Chanel ... that one is worth $20 and not Chanel price tag. And La Nuit is more suited for colder weather.

If you really HAVE TO add something new to wardrobe think about:
Gucci PH II (Great for spring), Cartier Roadster (Great all round frag), Cartier Declaration (great summer frag)

BTW I tried to sell my bottle of Bleu De Chanel in my work. Out of 6 collegues only 1 liked it (only women that I asked) but even she said its too expensive. Then I tried to gave a bottle to my sister for her husband. Nay, even she didnt want it lol.. Then I asked my girlfriend what does she thinks about it and she said its just OK. She prefered Platinum Egoiste over Bleu (as well as my sister)

From your list: Blue de Chanel. I don't get enough longevity with Platinum Egoiste, but most BN'ers do, so sample it. Also try the Allure Homme line.

Bleu de Chanel

La Nuit is more of a cool weather/evening scent. I don't care for Platinum Egoiste.

Platinum Egoiste

I can't recommend any from your list. I agree with dreamer81's comment that you have much better choices in your wardrobe, Terre d'Hermes in particular.

Out of those most definitely Bleu de Chanel.

+1,000,000

I would also suggest Prada Infusion d'Homme

Thanks for the great replies everyone! I'll shoot by Macy's today and give Bleu de Chanel a try. Also, what do you think about Acqua di Gio for my needs? Would you recommend it?

I (and every significiant person to me) would take Acqua Di Gio over Bleu De Chanel any day. It is also one of favourites of my girlfriend and father.

AdG is loved by many and is apparently a compliment-getter, but it is also one of the most popular fragrances in the US. You'll likely smell like several people around you. If not for the longevity issues I would recommend YSL L'Homme. It too is popular but nowhere near the scale of AdG.

Thanks again everyone. I'll try Blue and Acqua di Gio today. Although I don't really need a new perfume, I have the itch to buy one as it has been a few months!

Wouldn't invest in any of them -- but for a few pounds more try Eau D'Hadrien by Annick Goutal -- crisp, refreshing and long lasting with a particulary nice drydown. Warmth will help.
from your list Bleu de Chanel but check out Chanel Allure homme (I got this over Bleu) all down to personal preferance. YSL la nuit is better for cooler weather or a night out on a coolish summers night.

Co-sign...

I'd also suggest Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche...Lemon meringue pie. Very creamy and very lemony fragrance. I really really like this one.
I also get a ton of compliments on Issey Miyake L'eau D'issey
post #28 of 35
If you add ADG to your list, then I would definitely choose it over Bleu, PE, or La Nuit. (just as long as you are ok with it being a very popular scent). Other than the fact that it's common and worn by many, I really can't fault Acqua Di Gio on any level. I think it's truly one of the best warm weather fragrances of all time.

none of them, save your money!

I would leave these three on the shelf collecting dust where they belong.

Can't really go wrong with any of them but my order would go Bleu, PE, Nuit
post #32 of 35
Bleu de Chanel out of those 3. It has a very nice smell and would perfect for spring and summer. Longevity is pretty good as well.

Bleu

Bleu de Chanel would be my choice.
