Gravel for Men = Gucci Envy?

Just got to try Gravel for Men, and I notice that it is quite similar to Gucci Envy for Men. Anyone else get the resemblance? Envy could be a good replacement for the rare and even pricier Gravel.

I remember reading somewhere, someone once saying that it reminded him of Pour Un Homme by Caron.

Definitely not. Gravel is sandalwood-based.

I haven't smelled Envy, but I own both Gravel Cologne and Pour Un Homme after shave. Both are relatively light (as opposed to PuH EDT, which has great longevity) so the comparison is a bit more apt, although they are different certainly in composition. Both are old school without being heavy and share a sweet aspect. I find that PuH EDT becomes vanilla-centric in drydown and that is very different from Gravel. Gravel is closer to a linear frag. I paid $60 for my Gravel in San Francisco, which probably isn't much more expensive than Gucci would be. The longevity and sillage is subpar, frankly but some users don't much mind that.

I don't think PuH belongs in this conversation, as its missing the characteristic sandalwood accords of these two. Agree that Gravel's longevity does not compare to modern synthetic powerhouses -- it's much more natural. $60 is quite a deal these days!

Here is my equation:

Gucci Envy = Gravel for Men + ginger

To be honest, I think the ginger is quite a brilliant modernizing addition. Luca Turin accurately points out that the commonly soggy effect of the ginger is skillfully avoided. Instead, it blends with the woods and herbs to create a rich balance.

Just picked up two bottles of Envy while on vacation in Orlando for a song -- perfume shop moving inventory before a move. Got an old bottle of Jicky PdT for super cheap as well.
