SotD: Friday 13th April 2012

Good morning all !. Not in synch until this evening as I didn't bring any Guerlain on holiday .
Heading back home shortly. SotD is V&R Antidote.

Eek! It is Friday 13th!! Is that why nobody has already started the thread? Be careful now.

Well, all seems well at Basenotes today. Hurrah!

"House of Guerlain" for the synch today, so I am completely rubbish. Not a Guerlain girl you see, although I really like Habit Rouge, and Mouchoir de Monsieur. Never mind, there will be plenty love for Guerlain around. I will wear Shalimar Parfum Initial. I can hear the tut tuts from here!!

Have a lovely day all.
Ooops, Jon just beat me to it!
Safe travels Jon and thanks for all those fine pics. Where are you going next?

Hope everyone is well today. For synch Friday I'm in Jicky.
Good Morning all,

I forgot about synchronising...and I would have had plenty to choose from.

APOM pour femme : MFK (I see Mimi G caved and bought some - I hope you enjoy that pruchase loads - I reach for mine so often, I love it and from some feedback I get, so do the people around me!!). In fact I often don't post in SoTD as it's often APOM so I don't wanna keep repeating myself.

have a great weekend everyone - I'm visiting a chum in Switzerland!

After the culinary indulgances of the past few days - probably Weight Watchers.

Good morning,
Safe travels home, Jon! So, it is Guerlain and a bottle of red for tonight, eh?
I'm busy today with my citric-green samples.
I'm catching some sunrays at the moment lounging about as the weather forecast is abysmal until Tuesday. These spring ups and downs are getting on my nerves, too. In fact, 8-9 months of the year are forgettable. I want sunshine and warmth.
Best to all
Hi All,
Safe travels Jon - Loved the pheasant pic. On the Isles of Scilly it seems, even the supermarket carpark avifauna are interesting!
Evangeline - You are hip, aren't you ? Knowing about the rapper Wale and all (I'd never heard of him). Carbon Life was *interesting*; a bit hit-and-miss for me. My two neighbours were a fantastic couple in their 80s (at least). Whilst I don't think they particularly cared for the music, they were quite enthusiastic about the choreography. At the end, the gentleman said to me: "We've been coming here for over 60 years, and I still get the same thrill from it today as I always did". I thought that was just about the coolest thing I've heard for a long time. I hope I'm so open-minded when I reach that age.

Anyway, SotD is Cuir Mauresque. Is the synch Guerlain ? If so, I will join in tonight.
Have a lovely Friday, all.
Good morning everyone Today I'm gonna help my sister clean the old apartment of hers before she's moving (into my old one n fact . We lived only a few meters away from eachother at studenthousing flats) A bit ironic she actually helped me clean my old one so she could move in there. At least she didn't have a long way to move her stuff. So far unscented, but will wear some Mitsouko for the synch today. Hope you all have a good ( and safe ) day!

Good morning! My SOTD is Ferrari Essence Oud.

Ad pheasants ) I don't remember whether I have mentioned it before, but they are so numerous here that you can easily come accross a dozen sleeping in the trees and flying off when scared with a big noise. Also, every spring and fall not hitting one with the car is sheer luck... they are so stupid and sit by the road in clan gatherings.
Yes, I agree about your elderly couple at the ballet, G.! Staying open-minded and interested seems to be an absolute key factor.
Still enjoying the sun... keeping fingers crossed the clouds are late.
Hello all. Guerlain 180 Ans Creation.
Have a good trip back home, Jon and thank you for all the wonderful photos.

SOTD is Balenciaga Paris, a violety floral chypre with a lively fresh, green opening that grows soft and subtle the longer it wears on skin. Very pretty, elegant and feminine.

Notes include bergamot, spices, pepper, violet, carnation, oakmoss, cedar, vetiver, patchouli, labdanum
Happy Friday, all!
LOL @JR and his future destination -- Weight Watchers.

Larimar, your pheasants sound just like our deer -- they are silly and get hit by the passing cars and the way they mimcrize with the landscape one can't see them until it is too late. We have pheasants too, but somehow they seem more brave in the fall.

Raining today. Good steady rain, just like we needed. Mr.T saw the weatherman on TV last night and said that on Sunday he will be probably mowing the snowdrifts. We'll see.

Guerlain, eh? Rue de la Paix, most probably.

Hugs to arwen_elf: freezer and hot water, several times, for short spans, and a soft washcloth with gentle touch; or that spray bottle that computer geeks use to remove dust -- the air comes very cold, liquid and bubbly out of the small straw, I do not remember the name. Your local office supply store should know.

Same here, Wolfie, lots of stupid roe deer as well and keen hounds at my leashes...

Good morning!
Market day for me, I am off to sell in Body Shop Mango lotion and Mure et Musc Extreme
post #20 of 61
Good morning all!

Had an early start, first driving daughter to school, then dropping off a mailer at the P.O., then going to Mom's to administer her morning dose of meds (I now have to go there twice per day to make sure she takes her pills.)

SotD-- later!
good morning everybody. in sync today with Guerlain's Vetiver
post #22 of 61
How appropriate my "catch up" post is on Friday the 13th. I always liked this day.

I've missed you all. Not really posting all that much, especially since most of the news has been sad. Not posting has been my avoidance mechanism.

My fragrance choices have gone through a huge change since I've been living here in St Louis. I'm wearing much lighter fragrances and enjoying them tremendously. L'Artisan has replaced Guerlain as my favorite house. (Never thought that would happen!)

For synching up Friday, I'll wear a Guerlain today. It's cool enough for my beloved Attrape Coeur.
Good morning everyone -

I went for an early run in LizSport (I added an extra mile so I can eat shocking amounts of food today at the French Quarter Fest ) and now I'm in sync and ready for the rest of the day in Chamade, vintage-70s pdt. Y'all have a fantastic day!

gandhajala - Lol! I'm not exactly a follower, but I pay attention to stuff. Wale's been though here a few times; he was at the House of Blues last November along with Black Cobaine and they were very well-received. I agree about growing older and staying open-minded, but I think that happens naturally when you're interested in and active in the arts - they help us evolve.

I almost missed that whwend's going to Switzerland! Wishing you safe and happy travels!
too late for friday's guerlain synch (looking at my wardrobe it would've been either vetiver, habit rouge, l'eau boisee or one of the samples of dandy or voyou), today's post came very late (and i didn't dare start it, feel like still a newbie and not worthy)!!
it's mpg's parfum d'habit again for me, what can i say, i'm in love with this..
also, after fretting for more than a week, i've decided in the end to go with cuir ottoman again and pass le labo p24 (), purely because my wife had a very strong reaction to p24 (well, she detested it).
i haven't decided yet on the amber frag, still in a severe dilemma (ambre precieux, ambre 114, ambre russe) but hey, i have time..
you all have a good weekend and happy easter to my family and friends in the greek orthodox community! i know my mom will cook enough for 2 weddings (i really miss her cooking)..

Jon- welcome home !

I had to think carefully for today's sync and I went with Vol de Nuit extrait which I adore very much .
It's raining buckets here again .
In sync today in:

Eau de Guerlain by Guerlain

It'll be my Guerlain citruses in the day and the orientals tonight. Although I really wanted to wear Apres l'Ondee this morning...but I thought the EdG would be more appropriate. And it is. Sunshine in a bottle!

Mouchoir de Monsieur today
I'd like to be wearing the scent of apple blossoms from our tree, the sight and scent of which are almost too much pleasure to be contained in one plant. I feared the pollinators wouldn't be here on time, but there are a few, so I trust we'll have delicious apples a half year from now -- and they'll smell fabulous, too, whether fresh or cooked into applesauce. A single plant with so much virtue!

They say it may finally rain by tomorrow, so I plan to drop my shovel and plop down with my Kindle to read the past week's posts then.

As much as I love Guerlain, I'm simply in a white tea mood: Bulgari Au Thé Blanc. Hugs, all!

P.S.
My eye has shown a goodly amount of healing since the detachment of the posterior vitreous humour from the retina two weeks ago. It may never be quite what it was, but at least I'm not seeing strings of frog eggs in tapioca pudding anymore.

Convenience meal from the fridge this evening - what a comedown !.

Jon, welcome home and I knew you would go for L'Heure Bleue tonight. Consolation for you, it's leftovers from lunch here, but Hermitage o'clock soon.
I bought my first asparagus of this season from the local farmer today. So, tomorrow's lunch should be nice - to go with a Sauce Vinaigrette with plenty of fresh wild garlic leaves.
Tonight I am taking a break from my sampling marathon as it is a must-sync day for me... it's a liberal application from my newly acquired Jicky PdT bottle. After the first few try-out spritzes (I was a bit disappointed/scared at first) over the past two weeks, I am so happy to report that this bottle is in pristine condition - citrus intact etc.
I stink so swell tonight, my friends!
Cheers to all

Oh, such pretty pics this morning. And scent picks, too! I'm in Ava Luxe Viva this morning, the only I scent I own that is unlike any other I own. Take care, all.

This is great news, Quarry. I wish you continued improvement.
Danny - do feel free to start a SotD thread any time you wish.

I fully intended to synch tonight (honest, gov'ner), but I enjoyed wearing no.19 (EdP) so much last night, I just had to reprise it.
Now, where's that corkscrew ?..........
Quarry continued healing vibes to you~~~~

Couldn't resist the A La Nuit kindly sent by Gandhajala. Wow this is stunning stuff.... Lurve

Will synch later
Thank you, Twolf, I will remember for next time. Actually, I probably will not, so I am writing it down

Too bad I ruined a strange looking, square old Guerlain bottle of EdC, but it was so well sealed that the juice is perfect. I had heard that Ode would be re-issued after Sous le Vent and Vega, but it seems to have a generous dose of jasmin, and I think jasmin is now regulated by IFRA. I will not hold my breath for a re-issue.

In the mean time, I am in-synch enjoying Ode. It is so beautiful! I like it better than Joy (I can't believe I said that)

Happy weekend everyone!

I would love to see phaesants, all the animals we get here are Raccoons and worse
A couple of years ago an extended family of raccoons took residence in my back yard. Poor things, they got hauled away one by one.

Hugs to Quarry. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

I’m so glad to read that, (((Quarry))). I hope it continues to heal.

In synch with Insolence edt.

Quarry, it is the best news that your eye has healed well, I am sorry that it may not ever be quite back to normal.

Between the Friday sycnh, todays SOTD and the green chypre thread, the array of fragrances discussed today is mindblowing. Really!!

Having seen Mikes thread, actually I could have worn ANY of the Guerlain Colognes. I think that they are fabulous.

I am going to stick with Shalimar Parfum Initial tonight. I am enjoying it.

Have wonderful weekend all.

My husband said this about Insolence edt: “STINK-oh!!” I took two spritzes instead of my usual one. He’s right, two is too much. Still, I like the slightly dirty way it smells. Like I’ve just perfumed over myself after a long day, teased my hair up with some hairspray, freshened my lipstick, and I’m off for a long fun evening even though I haven’t had time to bathe.

Jon, I’m glad you’re home safe and sound. Yes, it’s wine o’clock here for sure!!

Woo Hoo Twolfie! Mailing tomorrow !

Jon- welcome home again !
Quarry - many hugs and I hope your eye gets better and better.
Knit- though I admit the central valley needs rain but really this week has been intolerable. We had a wide power outage last night too - just as Husband got in the shower. He said he was in battle mode - showering and shaving in the dark with cold water. The rain has begun yet again. Ayayaya!!!!!!
This is of course Friday The 13th - so the central heating packed up and the toilet leaked and I didn't get to go to the gym either.
Cold + Damp + No exercise = Mimi is not a happy bunny . So much for April showers and all that....
Oh Lordy. I have had both items fixed now and both men who fixed .... were not in good moods either - poor fellows !

This afternoon - APOM Pour Femme. No more rain tomorrow please !!!!!! Thank you God.

I am in sync with Chant d'Aromes. I cannot smell it though that darn cold! I can only smell a little bit, faintly, when I stick my wrist to my nose. I miss my sense of smell! I did not wear any perfume for the last two days because it was even worse than today, I could not smell anything. Even face in it. Argh.

Wolfie, congratulations on 8K. Each one of your posts is either wise and informative, or playful and fun, and both these kinds make BN what it is and what I love. And yes, I do remember some posts in which you tease members like myself! Love that too! Here's to 8,000, no, 10,000 more -- no, as many more as I cannot even imagine! Whoo hoo Wolfie!

I'm in synch today ... I'm wearing Shalimar Eau Légère Parfumée. I know there is a lot of confusion over Eau Légère or Light. I think there have been several formulations. I know mine is the first one that was released in 2003. I bought it at Dillards right after it became available. I love both classic Shalimar and this brighter, shimmery version Eau Légère ... I don't think you have to pick one of the other. They can both happily co-exist in a perfume wardrobe!

Quarry, the apple blossoms are so pretty! Glad you eye is doing better ...

Happy Friday, everyone!

That Peace Avenue is good. I have to write a review one of these days. Matter of fact, I have to send some out too.

Worse: Possums, and the occassional rat. I saw one on the back fence and after that I refused to go out to my back yard after sunset for weeks. My husband thought it was too funny that I was scared. Everytime I see one of those "unmentionables" even in movies, I feel the hair in the back of my neck stands.
