Pheromones/Skin Chemistry and Fragrances!?!?!

I am noticing something about fragrances on me and it's sorta weird.

I notice that a lot of fragrances on me that many consider to have a feminine feel don't have a feminine vibe on my skin. They are actually quite masculine. And scents that are perceived as very masculine are overly strong on my skin.

For instance Midnight in Paris, Dior Homme, and Kenzo Power (Sampling it today).

These fragrances catch a lot of flack by many people saying they are overly feminine and/or unisex.

Women I go on dates with, co-workers (both men and women) always seem to compliment me highly on these fragrances particularly MiP and Dior Homme.

So today I am wearing/sampling Kenzo Power and have been reading reviews stating that it is overly feminine and floral....I totally don't get this on my skin, sweet it is but that's it. On paper I must admit it does smell like a bunch of flowers and comes off feminine.

Lol Idk what the point of this thread really is. Just some information I wanted to share I guess.

Maybe I have a high level of overly masculine/strong pheromones that when combined with a somewhat unisex, softer type fragrance it really creates a well balanced smell on me.

What are you guys' thoughts???

Perception of smell has always been a matter of individual predispositions. Our noses are different, they're sensible to different fragrant ingredients, but it's good that every single person likes something different. World would be dull if everybody had the same taste, wouldn't it?

I'd give you a one simple advice: wear what you feel comfortable wearing, no matter if it's a masculine, feminine, unisex perfume. I'm sure that sticking to this rule can do wonders for you.

I'd even go one step further and say that in some cases you win with this kind of body chemistry. There are fragrances that are said to be strong that are weak on my skin and vice versa, some quite scents hold on to me very good.

About Kenzo Power, I had a sample of it, like 2 years ago, but I remember I really liked it and didn't take it as too flowery or too feminine for a male scent.

Good luck

Be glad that you found the ones you like and which harmonize the best with your particular skin chemistry.

When asked, you don't have to give the name or a great explanation. There was a thread recently where just a large collection of bottles made a fellow a "laughing stock". Imagine you "reveal" your feminine scent choices ... too much fuss could be made over that.

Just enjoy your scents and get more of the same type of fragrances.

Simply that scents react differently to different skin chemistry and are perceived differently.

Yeah I agree with all of you. The softer scents create a very very well balanced smell on me....and I could care less what people think of the fragrances I wear.

I receive nothing but compliments from my fragrances, I always do a thorough sampling before purchasing any fragrance. I just wanted to know your guys opinions on this.

Yes, body chemistry does bring out certain notes or aspects of a fragrance more than others. In your case, it doesn't come off as "feminine." But feminine and masculinity are just words made up by society. I'm glad to hear you sample and wear what you enjoy

Do you have a link to that thread please ?

Just like the color PINK is not a femi color - I don't agree though.

I do wear pink and lilac from time to time BUT pink IS a girly color and most florals DO smell feminine - just the way it is.

Not saying a man can't pull off wearing a pink Lacoste polo, a lilac J Lindeberg belt and Dior Homme Intense - but lets just agree that this man will not be perceived as the most masculine guy that particular day.

Men can also wear high heels - high heels are not gender based, we live in a free world - but let's just agree that high heels originally were made for woman, just like very sharp &/or sweet floral notes in frags originally were

Kenzo Power is - as far as I know - a fragrance for men. The rest gets off as really feminine in my book. However, wear what you like, really.
