What should go in wardrobe and what in samples?

Hi....newbie...1st question....so far I have been listing everything I own 1 oz and above in my wardrobe....I have now started to buy decants and I want to be honest and not misrepresent my wardrobe....would you consider 5ml and 8 ml decants something that could be listed in my wardrobe or under samples?
I put them in samples. I usually only list manufacturer bottles in the wardrobe. The exception would be full-bottle sized splits, like a 50ml Le Labo.

I'd put them under samples.

I'd put it under samples, but I think you should do whatever you want. It's for yourself to keep your collection organized. Welcome to basenotes!

Thanks for all the input... My thought process was if I buy
A sample from LS and like it, but can't afford a bottle I
Would get a 8ml decant from PF...with the amount of frags
I have a decant is probably good for about 10 wearings
hence my thought to add to wardrobe...

Since I've already done sampling, the decant is for wearing...

Put it where you think it fits. It's for your own benefit. and welcome to BN

I have to agree, I'd also put them under samples.

l put anything 10ml or above in my main collection, including decants, minis & purse sprays. As you say, they are for wearing, not for sampling.

l also have manufacturer's bottles in my collection which now contain less than 10ml. Should l then transfer them to my samples list? l don't think so, they are things l wear, not samples.

Ys but when happens when your 250ml bottle depletes to 3ml?
Does it need to be shifted to samples?

If 5 and 8 ml decants are considered , by your personal usage pattern, to be bonafide full bottles then classify them under wardrobe.

It's all arbitrary.

Anything from 30ml or above goes in my main collection (with a few exceptions made by 15ml editions or some extraits). All the rest are samples...

I put mfg bottles and decants of 10ml and up in my collection, and the other stuff goes as samples, although extraits are a rare exception. As teardrop pointed out, it's more about the intent - sampling versus wearing - than the actual amount of juice left in the bottle. For me, even a 5ml decant last for a bunch of wearings. I don't think I've finished a decant of that size yet.

In my own records, I maintain a separate category for decants, and categorize bottle-sized splits with mfg bottles.

Do what you want, it really is for you to keep track of your collection. I used to only consider anything 30ml or up as a bottle but then I got a 25ml bottle of Angel and it's weird not to include that in my wardrobe collection because, well, it was in a bottle and was actually larger than the 50ml CKone bottle I have.

I'd have to agree withe the post above me, 30ml and up are defined as "bottles" anything smaller is a sample

Some guys think in terms of full bottles, but as someone who, for any number of practical reasons, is not likely to accumulate a big collection of those, here's the philosophy I take :

A sample is something I've usually not tried at the time I got it. Will I like it.....or not ? Somehow or another I ended up with a sample. The good, bad and the ugly : if I have, or once had a sample, that's where it goes.

Things in my wardrobe are things I already felt I was sufficiently knowledgeable about, and that I was then able to make purposeful and committed decision to go ahead and acquire a larger amount of.

Even if that means just 5 -10 ml.

.

I consider anything 5ml and above as part of my wardrobe because even a 5ml will last me quite a few wearings.

Anything smaller than 5ml I consider a sample

8ml is a good amount depending on the fragrance. I'd put on wardrobe.

I'll go with this. I generally put 5ml+ in wardrobe although it depends on the fragrance. For me it's like, if I can look at my collection when deciding what to wear and have it be a possibility for the more long-term then it goes in wardrobe. For example, I have a 5 ml decant of D&G The One and 1 Million, both of which I like but will only wear maybe once every 1-2 months. In that case, that 5 ml will easily last me a year and if I have a year's supply of something for how often I wear it, it should go in wardrobe.

You're going to get really confused where to put a fragrance when it's not listed in the directory

I pretty much go based on what I feel like, though I've never really had a large decant I'd put it in the wardrobe section.

What if you buy a bottle with only a few ml remaining?
What if you keep replenishing through samples a certain scent?

It's all really what you want..

You could always go with what you paid, like If I got them for free (1mL ish) or paid like $3 from luckyscent -> sample, $10+ bigger sample, getting a bunch of wearings, maybe that'll go in the wardrobe
