When Les Exclusifs and Pop-Psychology Collide

So, what is your favourite Chanel Exclusif really saying about you ?

Apparently, I'm the kind of 'woman' who "refuses to get caught up in ultra-femininity," You won't find her wearing lace." "Her fave nail polish might be deep, dramatic Vamp or Rouge Noir, and she has a taste for unique statement jewelry with an avant-garde flair".

Hmm.

G., you rock that dramatic Vamp, you hunk!
MOI, I am a bit masculine, but sexy!

Ah Dr G, what a vision!

For the exclusif I want but don't have (28 La Pausa) the characteristics are "Although introverted in person, the wearer is in fact artistically extroverted," says Bendeth. "She's highly creative with a passion for the performing or visual arts."

for the one I do own- Eau de Cologne's wearer's attributes: "driven go-getter. She's a dynamic, creative thinker, a disciplined multi-tasker, and easily bored."

This is like reading a horoscope- hit or miss. well I am drawn to the arts, am a creative procrastinator and I am definately easily bored!! Disciplined in any area? No

31 Rue Cambon - "Its wearer doesn't care for change. She has a healthy sense of self without the need to experiment. She knows what she likes."

Easily the dullest out of the ten - and probably quite accurate as far as I'm concerned. Maybe I should make Bois des Iles my new favourite....Bel Respiro, which I also like, made me laugh - 'an avid gardener'! I detest gardening. No Sycomore though - I'd love to see what the wearer of this is supposed to be like.

Well I own a number of these either in parfum full size or large decants.

So I must therefore have a personality disorder. LOL

Thank you for sharing gandhajara IMO the best of Les Exclusief are:

- 31 Rue Cambon;(First spray gave me the feeling that I was surrounded by a Huge amount of Green Iris, longevity was gorgeous)
- Sycamore;(The best refine Vetiver frag you could wish for)
- Bois Des Isles; (Warm, sensuous, daring, definitely Egoiste's Mother)
- Cuir De Russie; (The best leather based fragrance I have experienced on my olfactory Journey, however I am yet to smell the elusive Creed's Cuir de Russie, well known (based on reviews) to be a Masterpiece)
- Jersey (Althout there are negative reviews on this one I find it to be, an exquisite elegant lavender, with some hint of Honey, Longevity is outstanding)

.....and that's why I hate most marketing.......

Thanks for the link though!

I have the entire line in my collection and I guess therefore all of my tastes are covered.

They gave me a little booklet about the Les Exclusifs line at the Chanel boutique. The entire line is based on some historical connection to Coco Chanel herself (named after her country house, a version of something designed during her hey day, old address, etc.). Chanel's whole approach to women's fashion came pretty close to cross-dressing--- use of Jersey in dresses, the suit, the little black jacket, etc. So it's not surprising this fragrance line is moving a bit in the other direction. The only one I own is Sycomore, however, which is way more masculine than feminine. I liked the Eau de Cologne samples but gave them to female friends. Seems to be a great line altogether so you can forgive Bleu de Chanel, etc., right? Sycomore, by the way, was not in the booklet and seems to have been a late addition to the line.

Odd that Chanel makes so little in men's wear but they do have some nice ties.

This is funny! Reminds me of my experience with the Dior consultant in the cosmetics hall at Harrods - I told him I was curious about some of their scents and he offered to take me through their exclusive fragrance profiling service.... He sat me down and asked a few (I think five or six) questions about my personality, things like "Are you introverted or an extrovert?", and then gave me a few fragrance recommendations. As I sat there answering his questions I realised that I found it very hard to answer some of them because my answer depended on various factors and really couldn't' imagine how this was going to help me find a scent that appealed. It's all part and parcel of the same thing I guess - leading the consumer to believe that one perfume says the same thing about everyone who wears it when in reality the only thing we can conjecture those people have in common is that they all like that particular scent...

As it happened I didn't like any of the scents he offered me. I promise I wasn't trying to be difficult I honestly just didn't care for them!

They have a computerized version of this at one of the Sephoras I have been to. The questions are all in the form of photos (seaside, woods, foods, etc.) and you are supposed to touch the picture you like best. At the end, you get recommendations.

OMG! Where is Sycomore ?

May be I am not a woman, am I ?
Yes Guerlain used the pictures and pick your likes for years. Strangely it did work as what it picked I did own, but hey I love so many Guerlains they where bound to be on to a good thing.

This is fun, but it confirms my opinion of pop-psychology....

I am apparently a "daredevil" Oh, well, this could be one of my imagined identities....
Looks like I'm a daredevil Well, haven't tried jumping out of a plane yet, so guess I will do this next time, when I wear whats left of my sample!

If you just own a sample, you may only qualify for jumping off of a rather low stool.

I'm not surprised Sycomore is missing. It's much too stark to write bullshit copy about.
