Unboxing 26 Year Old Golconda - Stunning

While filling the JAR split, I was very disappointed to learn that Golconda was sold out and had no re-appearance date planned. I was presented with the opportunity to buy a bottle of the vintage, 26-year old juice instead. In the end, I think it turned out better because this Golconda is definitely richer and more complex than the newer formulation (it was reformulated and re-packaged due to some of the ingredients being outlawed).

Here is the vintage Golconda packaging. It is packed in dried rose buds, and the bottle is just beautiful. The stopper and wand are tinted pink. I never really cared much for bottles and presentation, but this one is undeniably nice.

I smelled that formulation as well as the current formulation during our sniffing trip to NYC summer of 2010.

I wrote in my blog: "I preferred the original formulation, which I found mellower, more complex and more rounded..."

Congratulations on getting the bottle!

Omg, how exciting! I remember when this first came out. It was unlike anything else on the market at the time. I salute your good fortune.

Apparently someone went looking for some empty bottles and stumbled upon a few of them in storage. I never expect anything from the 80s to be as tasteful as this, but there it is. Freakin rose buds

Yay! I saw this little bottle when I was there. And the SA spun it around on the table like a top. Enjoy!

Wore this juice yesterday - it's the shizz! There are very few carnation prominent fragrances that achieve such velvety (and stratospheric) heights. I smelled it literally ALL DAY. Many of the JAR's club you to death with their over-the-top animalistic bravado but Golconda is different, it's strength is homespun with creamy, natural spiciness and the absolute certainty that you are **surrounded** by carnations.

Fell of my sofa, that is such a gorgeous perfume in such a gorgeous bottle packaged wonderfully. Envious.

That's good timing, Mike. I was just sitting here trying out the Oud Luban you sent. How funny.

There are no coincidences, as they say, right? Sometimes, in this hobby, you find yourself with an embarrassment of riches...this is how I felt yesterday holding that tiny Golconda glass vial in my hand and experiencing something so...profound. I hope the Aftelier evoked the same for you Brian.

P*rn, really... well, I just had to go and dab some Golconda.

I am myself a proud owner of the bottle in the second pic, Eclair, and suspect I shall sooner or later be the owner of another bottle (Jardenia? Jarling?)

Speaking as a jewelry designer, I'm in love with the bottle with the rose quartz looking top. Drooling....over it.... the same way I do when I fall for a gem stone.
