Your thoughts on Xerjoff 1861

I recently bought a decant of this and I think it may be my first blind buy mistake. It smells more Arabian than Italian to me. There hasn't been much on the site about this lately but I've noted there have been a couple of recent splits so there must be a couple of you out there trying it out. Could I get your thoughts on this please? Should I give it a few more tries or just flog it?

Top 5 summer scent.

I got a minty lime and citrus freshness that could have been squeezed from the fruit onto my wrists. These are the most natural notes I have smelled in a fragrance.

It gets minty strongly but not mint like in toothpaste it smells like the actual mint leaf. So it comes across too my nose as leafty green and minty just after the wonderful citrus opening.

This fragrance has the most natural smelling ingredients I have smelled in a scent. I cannot pick up any chemical notes at all. In a way it feels strange to experience such high quality notes. I think it is a good Spring/Summer scent, give it a few moore tries it maybe just not to your taste.

Purchased just recently and worth every penny. Top notes are very long lasting and the base is smoothly executed. Citrus remains noticeably present throughout the transition and the quality of the core ingredients is obvious. Refreshing and invigorating with a classically Italian feel - the bottle is a stunner too. Wonderful.

I'm starting to wonder whether this has got something to do with a person's smell development. You guys are all old hands at this while I'm just starting out. Perhaps I should chuck it into the back of my cupboard and forget about it for a year.

I'm not a particularly huge fan of the mint in it, but I feel like (unless it's some huge amount and you need the cash) you might be doing yourself a disservice to get rid of it too quickly. It's not my favorite Xerjoff, but it's something you'll probably want to come back to. Maybe wait for some heat and see how it feels then?

Give it some time bro.

When I first got into this hobby, I though La Nuit de L'Homme smelled like old man! Hah! How off was that!

Put it away for a while, trust me. Never smelled 1861.

Thanks guys. I think I'll store it away for a while - at least until it's a bit warmer anyway.

This is a very nice spring/summer scent. It opens with a minty lime and citrus. Very nice and fresh.

It's a bright, fresh, natural citrus blended with mint and light woods.

I've tried this again and I'm far happier with it than when I first tried it. I think the problem I had was wearing a sample of Nio at the same time as the 1861. I definitely don't like Nio and I think the smell of it mixed with the 1861.

I wore the 1861 recently and at the end of the day I could still smell the citrus notes - something I would've expected to have faded pretty quickly.
