Wrapping a link in text

The link feature doesn't seem to be working. Or is it just me?

I am going to take a chance and go contrary your signature line: "She who answers a matter before ..."

All you have to do is open two windows, the first one is the composing box here at BN and then open another window with that text of that article or whatever and HIGHLIGHT THE URL, right-click Copy. Minimize that window.

Go back to the first window - having the cursor BLINKING - at the spot where you want to insert: Right-click Paste. That URL appears. Voila.

I'm talking about wrapping that URL in text so that the whole URL doesn't show.

Testing (link is to images of lilacs):

http://www.google.com/search?q=image...w=1460&bih=850

The URL was much longer than what shows, so it does seem to be working.

BTW, I like your siggy.

Yes! The icon that looks like the globe with a link in front of it? You copy and past your link in that and it allows you to substitute a single word for the link. For instance, 30 Roses could have put her link in that and typed in the word "lilacs" and only the word "lilacs" would show, but when you click it on it, you went to the URL.

It's not working ... at least not for me.

What globe with a link in front of it?

One of the changes since the latest hack is that I no longer have any icons for my reply box. No bolding, no italics, no colors etc. (I do that all manually)

30 Roses- the little icon next to the smiley face - on the right. Here we go ..... http://www.perfumeshrine.com/ I am not good at this linking stuff.

How do I get one word in instead of the whole link showing. This has perplexed me for years.
Mims, there is no smiley face and no icon anywhere near my reply box. None of the extras that used to be there before the hack. (I took a screen shot but for some reason can't upload it to Photobucket to post it.)

When I "Go Advanced" there are smileys but I don't see anything that resembles a globe.

That is weird , 30 Roses !
At the end of a thread is the 'quick reply' box - there are 15 boxes you can click on that I can see at the top of it :
the 'Switch Editor to Source Mode ' all the way to Wrap (QUOTE) tags around selected text ' on the far right.
The globe icon is right next to the smiley icon in the quick reply box.

I've lost all those boxes, Mimi. I have only the words "Quick Reply" in the black header, and nothing else.

I have to manually use HTML tags for bold and italic, and HTML color chart codes to vary my text.

Oh no 30 Roses ! I can't imagine why . I wish I could help out.

Hi 30, what browser are you using?
@30R - I've edited your settings - any good now?

Well, it's still not working for me.

As long as Grant's eyes are on the thread:

My browser is Opera v11.62, and occasionally, maybe 25-40% of the time, when I click on reply, quick reply, or the quote post reply method, the text box never fully appears. I simply get a grayed out box, which still features the little resize triangle/arrow thingy in the lower right corner (although that is not functional then, either), but am unable to enter any text whatsoever. It's as if the border for the box is loading, but the actual edit box doesn't load.

Not sure if this is just an issue on my end, although I can say I never had this problem until after the recent hacks.
