Ambre Doré by Maître Parfumeur et Gantier (new release)

Thread Starter
As a huge fan of MPG's creations, I am VERY EXCITED about this one:

Maître Parfumeur et Gantier presents its newest perfume, Ambre Doré in June 2012, embracing this oud trend, adding a touch of regality in its already classy and varied line of fragrances. In fact the fragrance isn't completely new: It was launched in 2006 exclusively for the Eastern market, but the dominance of oud in western perfumery for connoisseurs has finally given the kick to launch it to the west as well as part of the collection “Les Accords Mystères.”

Ambre Doré, an oriental for men but shared by women, garlands the mysterious essence of oud with ambergris and other essences that recall both the east in regards to heritage and its powerful pull; styrax resin, saffron spice, sandalwood, coriander, myrrh resin and vetiver grass are united with oud and amber to bring harmony to the composition and to rekindle the tradition of Jean Laporte's brand, which has always excelled in its ambery orientalized blends.

Notes for Ambre Doré:
Top notes: styrax, geranium, clary sage
Middle notes: ambergris, oud, coriander, saffron
Basenotes: sandalwood, vetiver, myrrh

The packaging is decorated with a carved diamond glass stoper on the classic slender bottle of Maître Parfumeur et Gantier, this time in a warm brownish shade like a precious topaz.

Debuting in June 2012, Eau de Parfum in 100ml/3.4oz bottles.

Holy sh...!

Notes list is epic. I love JP Millet-Lage's style as much (or more? Heresy, I know) than Laporte's.

This better be good. No, it will be good...

..please, for the love of god, be good!

Wait, I just read that again, and apparently in my excitement I missed this blurb the first time through:

" In fact the fragrance isn't completely new: It was launched in 2006 exclusively for the Eastern market, but the dominance of oud in western perfumery for connoisseurs has finally given the kick to launch it to the west as well as part of the collection “Les Accords Mystères.”"

So does that mean this is basically a relaunching or tweaking of their old oud scent - Soir d'Orient? As far as I can tell that was released in 2006 (well, that's the earliest the reviews show for the scent) to only the middle east, which really makes this sound like a re-release.

THAT would be epic.

Awesome! Too bad the only shop in town that stocks MPG is run by a psychopath and i cant go in there anymore. Anyone see where this is sold online?
I'm guessing Luckyscent or Aedes will have it in stock, although I see no pre-orders being offered yet.
Wow! Sounds nice! Would be nice to smell this....if not, own it! =)
I sniffed it at their Paris boutique in April. I regret not having asked for a sample. It smelled right to me, if you wanted something stronger than Ambre Sultan (it's gotten a bit more timid over the years to me) and with oud. I am not fond of most oud fragrances, but this smelled great to me. I will have to revisit this.
I wonder whether it bears any resemblance with the legendary Soir d'Orient?
I wonder if this is somewhat similar to Amouage's Opus VI then. Was the amber element of this dry and woody/dusty, or more thick and creamy or 'wet'?
Weird......

I saw this here about 8 months ago.

I was confused. I didn't know if it was new and I missed the release announcement or old and I overlooked it.

I told Alfarom and scent about it. ... They weren't aware of it either.
Hedonist, did you ever try their earlier Soir d'Orient? This sounds like a (tweaked?) re-release and I'm curious if anyone will be able to confirm that.
SoS, I have not tried it.

I'll try Ad'O today though. We're heading to the mall soon.
Will be on the hunt for this one.

Please do report! Have you tried Cuir Fetiche?

I haven't tried Cuir Fetiche.

I remember Ad'O being very amber prominent. Don't recall a oud note but I'll try it again.
The few reviews I've read for this (dating to 2007 ish) mention it as being quite animalic.
Got my attention.
Please do report back, Hedonist.
The description has potential! If it's not too sweet it could be great.

I may go in there in disguise for this one.
I'll have to call first in my disguised cockney accent to see if its there first,
"Aalo guvnah!....."

This sounds awesome.

One of the most exciting announcements in recent times.

*Echoing the "Note list is epic"*
Alright we didn't go to that mall.

Will try to pass by tomorrow.

I remember it being very similar to Ambre Preceieux.

This must be a re-issue of Soir d'Orient then. Almost every review of Soir d'Orient mentions Ambre Precieux, saying that SdO is like AP + oud.

This is making me regret not having sampled AP!

Taking wifey and kids for ice coffee and fruit juice and will try If its available here.

Looking forward to it.

Enjoy! I hope its available. Can't wait to read your impressions.
I too am very interested to hear your opinion, hedonist! My first thought also was that this looks like a kind of re-release of Soir d'Orient. It's available in Paris. You can call the boutique, hednic! The directrice gave me her business card to call in the future, if I wanted to order from them directly. No store outside Paris seems to stock the full range.
Just sprayed.

So far:

Amber is very obvious
No oud yet
Plenty of resin and spice (herb)
No geranium
Some saffron

Very aromatic.

This is the reason i didn't buy ambre preceiuex (spl).

I felt AP to be a little less complex than i like.

This is complex plentiful.
The oud had emerged. Its a slightly animalic oud.

Very refined.
The geraniol is exquisite.
Not overwhelming at all.
I have heard enough! Already sounds like a must-have.

Thanks a lot.
The oud has subsided now.

Perhaps it will resurface?

brilliant, thanks hedonist, i'm sold even more now! i was afraid that the geranium might be a bit overpowering but if you're saying it's not, i trust your nose and look forward to sampling myself and will probably (most definitely) get a bottle. hope they'll sell it in london.
Is the selling at the same price as the rest of the line?
I have half a bottle left of the original Soir d'Orient which I have been using very cautiously. This does sound very similar to it. I can't wait to try it. I emailed MPG in France about it a few weeks ago and never got a reply.
nevermind.

The geraniol used is in perfect proportion Danny. At no point does it protrude.

The price here is on par with others from the line.

This will appeal to those who are amber connoisseurs and those seeking a complex amber.

Definitely going to purchase this.

Nicely compliments Mitzah and Ambre Sultan.
5 hours into it the myrrh was apparent.
Sandalwood and Vetiver undetectablebut surely adding to the base accord.

Interesting, expecially considering you're not much of an impulse buyer...

Used to be a big impulse buyer...
But this but well be based on an extensive test.
Didn't have any perfume on and tried it with my usual number of firsts.

An informed but.
how much do these usually sell for?

Love the color of the juice....
I'm stoked we have our own Middle East correspondent here on BN, thanks so much H. Regarding the amber, would you say it's a dusty-dry amber, or a more sweet balsamic accord?
Oh Yeah ! This is indeed great news. ... I was so disappointed I never got my shnozz near the original release back in 2006, as I'm a total amber ho'. And have been on the hunt for a random sample ever since.

I don't think it is the same frag as Soir D'Orient. ... In fact, it actually sounds like it could be Soir D'Orient minus the leathery notes.

Can't wait .... I just kno I'm gonna luv it !

Neither. It is a true amber with prominent aromatic accords.

I am not familiar with Soir d'Orient but based on reviews I can see how they appear similar.

Wow this could be really interesting hedonist!
Due out in September in the US - is it available anywhere *now*? This could be a blind buy (if I can sell something in my for sale thread).
Has anyone else tried this yet? I just ordered this blind. If you are in the US it is available at MIN New York.
Use the coupon code robes08 and you get 15% off and free shipping. So my total was $102. I can't wait to get this and compare it to my bottle of Soir d'Orient.
How does this one compare to Ambre Precieux? Is it stronger and superior?
So I spoke too soon. I got an email from Min NY saying this won't be in stock until August.
Hi all,

AZ, how the heck are you my friend ? AZ, do you think this new MPG might be a SixCats! type of fragrance ? Please let us know your thoughts when you receive your bottle. God, do I ever miss my bottle of MPG "Eau des Iles".

Regards,
SixCats!

Thought this might be the case. Aedes also stocks MPG and they also told me it won't be until August.
Well, it's August now. Has anybody else been able to try this one yet? I love so many of the old ones from MPG, but they were all Jean Laporte creations. I'm really looking forward to hearing what people think of this new one.
Thought I'd bump this one, what's the latest?
Bump again, any news?
All of the places I've enquired seem to think it'll be available end of September.
I pre-ordered this back in June from Min NY and just got confirmation that my package has been sent! Parfum1 also has this and shows 2 in stock.

kron and duke hunt - yesterday i got a message from nick at les senteurs in london that they have placed an order for ambre dore and he expects to start selling it at the end of september the latest. as soon as they have it i'll go sample it and let you know my impressions.
also, apparently mpg will be selling their entire line in uk through a major distributor very soon (this is also from nick) and not just a high end niche shop like les senteurs.
Okay, you guys pushed me over the edge... I smelled it in Paris last April (and haven't forgotten it since) and now asked my local shop to order it for me. They'll try. It would save me shipping cost from Paris, so let me be 'cheap'.
