Am I missing something?

Hey guys,

I've been a Basenoters for well over a year now but I can't help shake a nagging feeling that there is something i'm missing from my collection that I can't quite put my finger on!

So i'm hoping my fellow Basenoters could have a quick look at my wardrobe and suggest 3 fragrances they would buy if they had my wardrobe.

Thanks in advance guys!

Well, your taste looks quite different from mine, though there are overlaps in our wardrobes. The most conspicuous absences from your wardrobe seem to be the YSL greats, e.g., Rive Gauche, Live Jazz, M7, Homme, Kouros, etc.; the Tom Ford line up; Caron; and the wonderful world of Vetiver (Guerlain Vetiver, Givenchy Vetiver, Grey Vetiver, Creed Original Vetiver, Annika Goutal Vetiver, Vetiver Extrordinaire, etc., etc., etc.). If I had to suggest three, they would be Rive Gauche, Caron Third Man, and the Guerlain Vetiver.

Rive Gauche, Live Jazz, and MiP would be my picks.

My picks:

Full Incense
Musc Ravageur
Carbone de Balmain

Vetiver, Floral, something woodsier I think. An oriental. Something with Tobacco (try Santa Maria Novella). Looks great!

You have quite an impressive wardrobe, and I fail to see anything really "missing."
Perhaps, sometime in the future you may want to get a leather-dominant or a vetiver-dominant scent, but that is entirely up to you, and not a necessity by any means.

If so, try:

Cuir by Lancome - Upon application, one is treated to an ephemeral, citrus accord of the bitter orange of bergamot as well as the sweetness of mandarin. Coupling with a smoky leather, reminiscent of nubuck, an alluring suede drifts to the spicy floral of the middle. Here, in the enthralling heart, whispers of seductively sweetish jasmine, sweetly fishy hawthorn, creamy and sweet ylang ylang, cloak the comforting, soft leather with their lovely, floral melange. Mystical saffron bathes the blend in its somewhat medicinal and creamy character, and leads the wondrous concoction to the waiting base. An enabling orris, a balsamic and vanillic styrax, a warmly herbaceous and earthy patchouli, and woody birch, all commingle, enhancing the leather aura. An awesome drydown ensures. This elegant composition has restrained projection and very good longevity. Cognizant of its inexpensive price point and its fine leather quality, this handsome fragrance should be a welcomed addition to one's wardrobe.

Encore Noire by Lalique - One is initially treated to a drenched, citrusy greenness, afforded by the haitian vetiver, which progresses to an earthiness somewhat akin to the saturated soil of a marsh littered with struggling greens. A warming greenness ensues, brought about by the bourbon vetiver. A duet of vetivers is consummated. From this green, damp and dirty duet, the bourbon vetiver overtakes with a burning, ember-like texture. In the distance, the cool crispness of cypress wood tantalizes, and the tempering heart beckons. Here, the spicy cypress wood stews lusciously with the wrestling vetivers, imparting a dry smokiness to the brew. Transitioning to the soothing base, a sweetness from the cashmere wood taints the subdued vetivers, and combines with a sensual musk to impart a wonderful, dry and animalic woodiness. This exquisite fragrance has a refined and complex uniqueness. A true gem, this high quality scent has good projection and very good longevity, and warrants your indulgence.

Some excellent suggestions already, but I'd suggest:

Chanel Pour Monsieur (or Concentree)
Eau Sauvage
Givency Vetiver.

+1 Rive Gauche, Live Jazz, Fahrenheit.
+1 of DSquared2 Potion

I'd recommend also adding a good powerhouse scent like Giorgio for Men and a rose scent like either Portrait of a Lady (rose/patchouli/incense) or Floris No. 89 (masculine rose/wood).

Puredistance M
Invasion Barbare by MDCI
Absolue pour le Soir by MFK

I second pretty much all of these suggestions, especially the vetivers (including Encre Noir). Vetiver divides all men into two groups: those who don't much care for it and those who are obsessed with it. Every man's wardrobe should, however, have at least one vetiver in it (you've got a lot to choose from).

Limiting myself to three:

Kouros

Opium pour homme

Vetiver by Guerlain

Are you sticking with designer frags?
If so, Egoiste and Kouros are worth a look.

Go for a vetiver too (if you like them) but Encre Noir is only good if you're happy with a huge amount of Iso E Super otherwise go for one of the others.
