Post count not updating

The post counter isn't working as of yesterday. The number of posts isn't being updated.
I noticed it too - also existing threads with new posts are not updating.

Database is not happy.
This seems to happen whenever there is a major snafu.

Does it usually correct itself (eventually)?

The post counter is working, but it's going backwards.

Last night my count was 3499, and after my first post this morning the count was 3483.

Mine went down overnight, losing 17 posts, and it's not updating anymore.

I have reported this in the thread on the Community board about post counts.

Edit: The count appears to have resumed updating, but from the incorrect number rather than the correct one.

I have noticed this as well .

maybe a thread you posted in got deleted for one reason or another?
I don't know what I'm supposed to be at, so I don't know if I'm off...
well by posting here G.303, you are making a step in the right direction. literally.
Yeah I noticed my post count went down significantly (by about 100-150)... Must be a db glitch.
During the most recent slow down in the past, few days, the Post Count was somehow not functioning properly; although the posting would eventually post, it was not being added to the Post Count.
Just checking mine ...
I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I noticed that it says "Find latest posts" where it used to say "Find all posts by user" on profile pages now.

Gary, way off is right - miles out in fact. I remember you went over 13000 recently and appear to have "lost" around 1500. The same seems to have happened with DustB who has dropped from 11300 odd to under 10000. Mine seems roughly correct but quite a few others seem reduced too. Fingers crossed it gets sorted.

Thanks JON.....I was over 13,100 and went backwards.....Wow!!! I was shocked to see this happen.....I'll keep watching.....I hope this not a big problem.....Gary

I've not really noticed mine but if I didnt remember wrongly, it went down by only a few posts

Other than just feeling good about getting established, what does it really matter how many posts a member puts down ?

I noticed that * stars are awarded after say 500 posts.

Are members with over 10,000 posts more credible than others ? It totally depends on the topics, does it not ?

I checked my profile and did a search. I could only find posts as old as late last year. I also did some searches for posts by other members and found a similar thing. I don't like this and hope it's just a temporary move by Grant.

I was going to say "who cares?", but you beat me to it.

How else am I expected to keep track of the ungodly amount of time I spend on here??

I think a better measure of credibility was the now defunct "thanks" button. You could see how many times someone had been thanked, thereby allowing you to make an assumption at how helpful they are. Crazy correlation though? Those with the most posts also had the most thanks. Ironic how that works...
The count matters to people who are looking forward to getting to 500 posts in order to sell.
My post count did not decrease during the maintenance period; it was just not updating/increasing. So far, everything seems to be back to normal.

AAAHHH ! Sorry, I stand corrected.

Question: There was a Thank you button ? That is not a bad idea, to re-institute it. It never hurts to give credit where it is due.

This is what I was going to add. I'm pretty sure I'll be culling the herd soon, and it would be nice to have options when it comes to actually doing it.

I didn't lose thousands like some but did drop a few hundred and since it took me about seven or eight years to creep (think of the Lonely Island guys doing "The Creep") past 1K I'm actually kinda bummed.

They being credited on a Cayman Islands' account. Don't worry, no taxes.

There I was diligently working my way towards 10,000 posts, when suddenly around 2000 posts were dropped off my tally.

I guess I'll have to post harder to make up the deficit.

Cheers,
Renato

The BN Police have been knocking off posts for poor quality and general silliness.

Renato, I don't think you are alone. Like yourself Mike Perez, G303, and DustB also sustained heavy losses recently and I suspect there will be others affected too.
Why is this happening?
You can watch post counts change here: http://www.basenotes.net/memberlist....rt=posts&pp=50

Well, not exactly. You need to keep refreshing the page.

I'm in favor of that!!

Notice my post count lost about 800 or so, as I recall nearing 3000, but hey, I am okay, as long as I retain all the privileges I had accrued and will not be delayed from accruing more.

Seriously, I know Grant and the team have had a tough time and did not wish any of this had to happen, so let me just say I thank them for all of their work and, well, things happen in life and not every thing turns out how we hope or plan for it to. This is still the best website for discussion and information of scents and I am glad we can come here.

I'm pretty sure I lost a few hundred, but it doesn't matter much to me. I can understand if some people are peeved about it though.
Grant made an announcement about it here: http://www.basenotes.net/threads/301756-On-Post-Counts

Seems you're back on track. Those 2000 seemed to re-appear!
