I am debating which fragrance to get between Terre d' Hermes Parfum versus Chanel Egoiste. Which is overall better?

Edit...Sorry I have no clue which one. Lol I just realized it says "Egoiste" not Platinum Egoiste.

I have never tried Egoiste. Therefore my opinion is obsolete.

Actually I'm holding back, I wouldn't be thebeck if I didn't tell you what I really think.

So here it goes. The only time I would wear Terre D' Hermes is to my ex-wife's funeral, just so I could stink up her coffin.

Egoiste is pretty good whenever.

I've been known to despise TDH typically, and yesterday I sampled the EDP and EDT again. As usual, it smells like pine tree car freshener to me. The Creed Sales Rep at Saks agreed. haha

I like both, so it's hard for me to tell which one is better. Even if I'd digress from the overall outlook, I'd venture to say it's TDH Parfum to me, in a contest of the EDT versions, Egoiste would have won easily, but, given that the Parfum concentration of TDH exists, this flanker has, to my nose, the extra edge and complexity.

Egoiste - grows on you! Robust and Strong
Terre D'Hermes - Usually gives me a headache, i gave away the remainder of the bottle - smells like indian flower merchant on steroids..

If you like subtle sandalwood and rose - Egoiste. If you like not-so-subtle cedar and orange - TdH.

I personally think that these are both classic and worthy of owning.

TdH is the most overrated frag on Basenotes. Egoiste, on the other hand, is fantastic.

Egoiste is an oriental, powdery smell, for colder months, whilst Terre d'Hermes parfum is woody citrus much easier to wear and the scent itself better.

Egoiste is a unique, spicy, creamy, adult scent. Terre's pure parfum concentration smells like body odor, with a hint of green orange (can you tell why it's in my sales thread?). No contest at all.

Egoiste is better if you want something fuller and more nuanced. It doesn't get on my nerves like the flinty Terre with its oversupply of iso e super. Terre has better longevity and sillage though, even in relatively dry heat.

I voted TdH, but I'd say get both. TdH is very versatile, and I tend to find myself reaching for Egoiste for more formal situations (but I have the Concentree flanker).

and as much as i really do love egoiste (esp concentree!) he has a good point. the edp doesn't so much have an edge but a much more successful wood component than the edt. that egoiste sandalwood IS hard to beat, though (and it doesn't rely on iso super e....)

where egoiste might slip up is in its tendency to cloy - it gets sweet with da heat. the concentree holds on to that wood...

lets call it a draw between 'apples & oranges'....
