Not the most "Masculine" fragrance out there!

Thread Starter
share your thoughts on what fragrances are marketed for men but they definitely have a girlish vibe to them!

I'LL name one, Amen Pure Havane is one, "it's not the most masculine fragrance out there" lol with the honey note but it is still a solid fragrance!

so what fragrances do you think are not the most masculine fragrances.
Most of what's popular for men.

Le Male.
1 Million.
La Nuit de L'Homme
Dior Homme
Fahrenheit 32
heck, even Acqua di Gio.

Also
Fleur du Male
Reflection Man
...
countless others, really.

Pure Havane is totally masculine, I could not imagine a girl wearing it? I'll go with one of my favorites Dior Homme.

Habit Rouge

L'Homme by YSL
CK One by Calvin Klein (but it is unisex)
Blue Jeans by Versace (my younger sister used to wear this)
and maybe Geir by Geir Ness

Gaultier 2, its unisex i know, but it's as girlish as you can get.

Habit Rouge
Old Spice

... too many to name. Most "masculines" aren't manly enough for me.

Which isn't to say I don't venture outside from time to time. I dig Shalimar Initial e.g.

Pure Havane - It's honey and french vanilla with very little tobacco. Yes it's feminine. Still enjoy wearing it on occasions.

Gaultier 2 - Vanilla bomb. Unisex, but leans way towards the feminine side. Not something I'd ever wear.

Dior Homme - Very beautiful, but also has a feminine aspect to it. Masterpiece.

Midnight in Paris - Lovely fragrance, but it is also has many feminine qualities. Still love it.

Bond No.9 - Many of the men's fragrances could be unisex and many of the unisex fragrances are very woman friendly.

Midnight In Paris EDP is way to sweet and feminine for me
post #16 of 140
As already indicated, the mainstream "masculines" these days all tend to be feminine (light, fruity, sweet, cheerful, inoffensive) by the standards of forty years ago while the masculines of forty years ago (dark, strong, animalistic, moody, mysterious) are now called "old man scents."

cuir ottoman has a female-ish quality to my nose.

Lumiere Noire pour Homme
Lyric Man

And all of the scents from the old womans synthetic handbag series:

Dior Homme
Midnight in Paris

Dior Homme

All frags that are too sweet and have vanilla or roses/floral in it
Yes i know, i sounds grumpy but everthing is so damn unisex today. You cant tell a man from a women just by their scent. Thats bad in my world.

Speaking very generally and without naming numerous names I find there are today so many fragrances marketed as unisex which lean quite far toward the feminine especially with floral scents. It may be just a change in perception about what is now acceptble for a man to wear which maybe wasn't in the past, but cynic that I am I think this trend is just a way of expanding the market for a fragrance. That said, "feminine" fragrances on men and "masculine" fragrances on women do not bother me personally in the least, though I am surprized sometimes when I try something marketed as "unisex" and it comes off to me seeming totally feminine. But different scents work out well for different people. Obviously, an individual should be able to wear whatever kind of scent they want. I certainly do.
i find all the Pure Havane/Dior Homme frags plenty masculine. Its all about perception.
Another vote for Dior Homme

Also the various YSL L'Homme (including flankers like La Nuit, La Nuit EDP, Libre) do have a - not necessarily feminine - but not a strikingly, undoubtedly masculine vibe either.
Another for Dior Homme and Amen.

Disagree with Habit Rouge though. It's Dandy-ish and foppish, but not feminine.

Indeed. Cheap stinking garbage. If Dior Homme had a face, only it's mother could love it.

You have an odd, hate-filled obsession with the Dior Homme line. I bet at least 25% of your posts are anti-Dior Homme/DHI. Take it easy, Capt. Ahab, life is too short to be so negative.

Back on topic, Dior Homme is not the most masculine fragrance, true.
The question should be what recent "men's" frags would very few women ever consider wearing?
a cheapie: Stetson. Sweet floral oriental. The smell is girly enough to make its own marketing seem positively ironic.
Bogart Arabian Nights. Absolutely feminine and should be marketed for it as well.
A*Men is feminine ?? NOOOOO WAY.
I think MiP is marketed masculine wrongly, it's strongly feminine IMO.

Quoted for truth.
I tried rally hard to like my bottle of Habit Rouge EDT but just can't quite grasp it.

Very well made frag though - no doubt about that.

Same with Dior Homme, solid made fragrance, but on the feminine side.
I bought the 100 ml reformulation so many in here thinks is 4 steps down from the original, but it's less lipsticks in scent, so I actually enjoy it from time to time now......

How do you feel about the EDT version then ?

Its less sweet, has still pretty good projection and longevity - but as said toned a bit down on the vanilla and Tonka bean sweetness.... I enjoy both highly from time to time especially layered with Bvlgari Black and/or Armani Code.

Uomo? Moschino... Bought it for myself, gave it to my fiancé. Great scent but I'm not sure how this was intended for a man.

+1 for Dior Homme
Custo Barcelona Man (mainly smells of neroli)
As scent hads no gender, and everyone is free to where the scent that strikes his or her fancy, this question means nothing to me. That said, these men's scents can easily be worn by women:

Dior Homme (warm gourmand)
Boucheron Pour Homme, especially in the EDP (floral)
Derby (leather chypre)
Habit Rouge (citrus leather with vanilla)
Many...
Dior Homme
Habit Rouge
Eau Sauvage
l'instant de Guerlain pour Homme extrême
Kenzo Power
New York
Pour Monsieur
Infusion d'Homme
Infusion de Vétiver
etc. etc.

I had the same hatred for 2-3 months back in September after testing Dior Homme because I was so shocked how lipsticky it was on my skin. Now I own both Dior Homme and Dior Homme Intense, but in the new formulations, which I enjoy FAR FAR more than the old formulations.......Dior Homme is still on the feminine side though, so I enjoy layering it with L'Instant De Guelain EDT and sometimes also with Bvlgari Black & YSL Body Kouros - awesome stuff in layers.....just awesome....

Btw now my hatred goes against Mucs Koublai Khan......this frag is also called FECALS BOTTLED

Where does it say that Cuir Ottoman, APOM and Noir Epices are marketed to men?
I don't think of them as un-masculine, but most of the Aramis line is EXTREMELY similar to their Estee Lauder analogs.

I've done wrist to wrist comparisons of Aramis 900/Aromatics Elixir, Devin/Aliage, and JHL/Cinnabar, and they are so similar they are difficult to tell apart. There were certain times in their development when each pair smelled IDENTICAL.

Aramis and Azuree are also very similar, but I have never done a direct simultaneous comparison.

I'm sorry my opinion has offended you. I'm sorry that I love Le Male more than any other cologne. I will further apologize that 1 Million is my 2nd favorite. I will then apologize for 3-10 in my top 10. I dare mention that I bought a bottle of CK One Shock tonight as well, because I feel an apololgy might be necessary.
