What Fragrant Tree Is This?

Just have to know! It almost smells like a finished perfume. My wife was worried that it wasn't a natural smell, it is so amazing (meaning, she was worried that somebody sprayed something on the trees). It was only slightly indolic. The stalk holding the blossoms grows almost directly out of the nearest leaf, if that's any help.

Barberry? I don't know, just guessing. The flowers have the same yellow color

Hmmm, it seems like a linden tree (lime tree) in the first picture. The other pics are slightly fuzzy on my screen. Linden blossoms are extremely aromatic and sweet. This is the right time for them, too.

I think you called it, catnip_too and ariodant - I'm pretty sure you're right - linden blossom.

They're in bloom early where you are. We get them in July...but everything is blooming a bit early this year.

I'll have to drive to the local park where they line the parking lot, to see if they're in bloom yet. My mother would love to smell them.

Lovely linden (or Tilo in spanish). One of my favourite natural flower scents! Some chardonnays share a similar flowery profile!

Andy Tauer had a recent perfume based on linden, Zeta. Linden may be intense and striking at a distance, but in a perfume, it has a strangely functional character that not even Tauer can tame. Your wife was right when she complained that it doesn't smell natural and it's as if somebody had sprayed stuff on them.

Thanks, cacio! My wife does have a great nose, which is even more directly connected to her mouth than mine is. She just blurts out exactly what she thinks. My favorite recent comment was her reaction to A*Men Pure Shot:

"UGH! Terrible! No way! Cheap guy smell!"

I use her nose all the time, and I've discovered all sorts of characteristics - often hidden in plain olfactory sight - that I wouldn't have realized otherwise.

I drove to the park to check, but the linden flowers are not nearly ready to open yet-- they're still tight little green balls.

Looking again at the link, I see that there may be only days between the appearance of these little green balls of buds and the opened flowers, so I'll have to check back in a few days.
