Choice between Philosykos, VIW and Terre d'Hermes

Hi Basenoters,

I have a humble collection of fragrances and I intend to add one more to it. My choices are Diptyque's Philosykos, Creed's VIW and Hermes' Terre d'Hermes. All the three of them smells great but it's hard to decide on one. I know that Philosykos and VIW smell similar to each other while Terre d'Hermes has this sophistication vibe to it. Considering that I live in a humid place, which of the three would you guys recommend?

Thanks in advance.

Tough choice as I have and love all three. Since you live in a humid place I'd say probably VIW would be my choice for you.

Viw

I prefer TdH easily of the three, but with your specific situation VIW makes a lot of sense.

I Love Philosykos. I wore it today and it was a hot day, and, I really think the heat makes it sing!! I love that it is so different from so many other frags out there, I feel it's in a league of it's own. So I would definitely recommend Philosykos for it's originality, it's freshness, and it's different kind of a vibe. It's a really fantastic fragrance. It's one of those frags that I feel couldn't become cloying in any way in any situation.

Philosykos is my favorite of those 3, and it works more often than VIW I feel. Hold off on TdH and pick up the Diptyque!

Terre d'Hermes is amazing for me and I live in the heat of Texas. Highly recommended. I dont care much for the other two you mentioned.

All three work in the heat well.

If you like green fragrances: Philosykos
If you enjoy sweeter more casual fragrances: Virgin Island Water
If you like bitter orange and vetiver: Terre D'Hermes

Out of these I'd probably go with Virgin Island Water

FullCollapse, I was just wondering how well does it do on your skin in terms of longevity and projection?

MrFragranceReview, thanks for breaking down the group/notes for the different frags.

It seems like VIW is the one most suggested. Based on all of your experiences, how long does it last on your skin 'cause I've smelled VIW on paper and it doesn't last that long.

Terre d'Hermes by far......

VIW has neither longevity or projection for me, and Philosykos' fig scent is a little too flat for my taste, so I would go with Hermes Terre d'Hermes out of those 3 choices.

anything but TDH - it can get really, really cloying.

Personally I get 8-10 hrs. with exceptional projection until the very end with TdH. It doesnt get cloying on me either, at all. Spray it on around 8 am and still get compliments around dinner time. Honestly though just buy samples of all three and maybe even some others and make your own decision based off of that. Try all of the concentrations of TdH (edt, edp, parfum) and see which one works best for you. Also try some vetivers since you live in a humid palce as those do well where I am as well(encre noir, Vintage Guerlain Vetiver, Route du Vetiver by MPG are my FAVS).

Haven't smelled tdh but I own philosykos and I love it. Sampled VIW few days ago It's pretty good but I don't think I'll ever pay that much money for creed especially with all this batch variations.

Philosykos no doubt.

It's not similar to VIW though.

I've tried the edp version of it and I feel that the edt smells nicer.
Well anyway, I sprayed tdh (edt) on a piece of paper yesterday and the smell still sticks around even until today. So I asked two of my female colleagues to smell it. Their responses and mine are as follow.

Colleague 1: Mmm, smells musky. A Man smell. I don't think I want to have it on my skin
Me: Well, it's a fragrance for man so I guess it won't really work on a lady's skin
Colleague 1: What house is it from?
Me: Hermes
Colleague 1: Ok.. huh what?

Colleague 2: Ewww
Me: Ermm ok.

It's interesting to know that both ladies are in their mid-20s and from the way their responses, I don't think they ever smell a fragrance like this before. Unique? Yes

Like all three. Philosykos and TdeH are both in my top ten.

Another way of looking at it for me would be that Philosykos and VIW on me are gone in 2 hours. I only use Philosykos on warm evenings. TdeH gives me 8 hours and is the perfect good quality all day all purpose fragrance.
