The Basenotes Fragrance Championship - Page 2

I already voted, so dont take seeing the name of the fragrance as an official vote, but thatd be weird if Egoiste got no votes, because it is arguably the most loved fragrance here

I thought when terre came out the fragrance industry would forfeit. Then Aventus greased the gears. I'm team AVENTUS, death to others. So please...if you would... BOW TO THY KNEES!

looks like team Aventus is an early frontrunner

But shouldn't you have nominations first and parties, conventions, and a campaign, followed by a final run-off secret ballot vote? What's the fun if Team Fahrenheit can't run a smear campaign against Aventus (and its secret conspiracies to take over the world)?

Obviously the Anti-Aventus Party needs to organize against the Creed-Zombies.

Boy, thats a tough one, but I would like to throw Eau Sauvage Extreme-Christian Dior(the vintage formulation)intothe competition

Farenheit, no doubt about it.
I don't know if I have at least 20 posts, but I am a Basenoter since 2007. I think I must have the right to vote.

I agree. There is a balance between Affordability, Popularity, and Accessibility. If something is cheap, easy to get, and smells good, it will be much used. It is sort of like the critics of Stephen King, the writer. Many snobbish critics slam his work as "junk, worthless, and not literature" but the bottom line is he sells hundreds of millions of dollars worth of books. The masses like it, even though the literary quality isn't on par with Dickens or Tolstoy. There are fragrances that become popular, and sell. Some of them are massed produced and inferior quality, but people like it. It kinda irks me when I have on a particularly expensive EDT and someone will stop me and say "What is that...AXE?" Great, they think my $150 cologne is a $5 can of scented body spray!!!

My own personal favourite would stand no chance (PS London), so I will use my vote to nominate a more formidable contender; Acqua di Parma Colonia

Another vote for the Creed - Aventus machine!

I believe some of the other kids sprayed Mouchette with Aventus, which is why she rolled down the hill into the pond - the first Creed casualty.

Interesting concept - totally random.

A scent should only be considered if it has historical context, in my perspective, and can be worn and adorned year-round. And, to that notion and thought...I vote for (in all of its wonderful and glorious formulations and bottlings of the last 51 years) - Guerlain's Vetiver.

Why not?

Cheers,

For example, I would vote Windsor because it kicks Aventus' ass to the moon and back, but what's the point? A scent like that will never get enough votes because it's not widely accessible.

A true champion is not one that can fight its way into a Sephora (commendable though that is). It would truly be the best of the best, which you can never get from polling a bunch of plebes like me.

Mmmm...this makes me want to smell Windsor even more but for now my choice would be ... Aventus.

Hi all,

Ummmm.....tough one. Should I choose DZING!, Acqua di Cuba, Eau des Iles, Piper Nigrum, Route de Vetiver, Nostalgia, BdP, L'Autre, etc etc etc. I recently tried the new Eau Sauvage Parfume and found it WONDERFUL! I also have positive memories of sampling MKK, Sables, Biche dans L'Absinthe. OK.....I'm buying time. OK, I vote as my "all around" favorite :
CREED Tabarome Millesime.

Regards,
SixCats!

Ok guys, one more day to vote then this thread will be closed! If you haven't voted yet, do so now! Also, if you already voted and see that your selection has no chance to make the playoffs, nows your opportunity to edit your post and change your vote to something that has a reasonable chance. Good luck!

This sounds like something the basenotes database admin can research. Query the database for the top votes-getters from this year. Then start polls or head-to-head vote-offs with various pairs; winner advances. Besides, I find it easier to pick the best of two choices rather than my overall top.

Just my two cents.

My vote: Van Cleef & Arpels Pour Homme

Except, of course, for Xerbia above. His vote should count x1000 because he's smelled "all other fragrances." Very impressive.

Really the only proper way to do this is to send around samples of everything in the running to everyone voting, the way they send around DVDs to the entire Motion Picture Academy when they vote in the Academy Awards (a lot of them apparently go to rest homes for retired actors). Even then you would have to worry about legendary fragrances that have been discontinued or (allegedly) reformulated. So probably the proper way isn't going to happen. Maybe an "award" is more accurate than a "championship" because awards are not expected to consider everything in creation, just the nominees.

Similar threads do emerge on BN from time to time. One champion? I don't think so... but I know its not Aventus. I'll vote for

As im tallying the votes right now just to see where it stands, im noticing a lot of fragrances are tied with two votes and if they just get an extra vote theyd make the playoffs. right now i have tallied 7 or 8 definite playoff fragrances. The rest are tied at 2 votes each. Nows the chance to edit your post if you have something that doesnt seem like its gonna make it, and vote for a frag with 2 votes that you enjoy and think deserves a shot!

frags with 2 votes so far:

Antaeus
The Dreamer
Jubilation XXV
Pure Havane
M7
Black Aoud
Guerlain Vetiver
Guerlain Derby
Versace Pour Homme
Egoiste
Knize Ten
Fille en Aiguilles

Help some off these with two votes make it to the playoffs! Voting ends tomorrow sometime.

Hey you should treat everything on the list as a "nomination" (a nomination and a second) and run them all off in the first round. Will make the later stages more interesting and fair.

What im gonna do, is if there are ties at the end, i will make the selections based of of the positive reviews on basenotes. The fragrance with more likes will have the advantage. This thread will also be closed in about in about 30 minutes to an hour.
