SotD Sunday, 24 June 2012

Thread Starter
It's sunny Sunday today! The weather is beautiful after those few gloomy days we had this week.

SotD is Dior Privee Eau Noire from my miniature I got as a gift. Let me wear it for a couple more hours 'coz I can't decide whether I like it or not. There's something that grabs my attention in it (probably lavender) but still something makes me feel uneasy (caraway? coffee? is that one of you?)

Now I'm off for a long family bike-ride. See you later! Have a good day. Smoochies to all!

Sorry for my mistake. Of course it's June 24! Hope someone can correct it

Ah, my Sunday is almost over.
I wore Jean Paul Gaultier Classic Summer 2005 edition.

Good morning all !. SotD is Xerjoff Fiore d'Ulivo

Top notes- Lemon Peel, Basil, Lotus Blossom, Ambrette Seeds
Heart notes - Olive, Jasmine, Magnolia
Base notes - Benzoin, Ambergris, Musk

Female marketed but clearly unisex citrus / floral.
The "Spring in a bottle" descriptions are apt - eyes shut, breathe in, we're back in Lake Como

Our lunchtime wine glasses today will be raised in the direction of Lilybelle and her 8000 post milestone

Enjoy the bike ride, Lucasai

Welcome to Basenotes, wildroses

Oh my word Jon, that bottle looks ah-maze-zing! And the notes sound like a string quartet, must smell blissful

Going to be a sampling day today, so will post my impressions on samples on the samples thread in general.

Just wanted to say hi to all you fragrant friends

Morning Everyone,

Have a nice bike ride, Lucasai.
PerfumedLady - A smidge more iris in No.5 EdP, you say ? Interesting. I'll have to do a side-by-side comparison some time.
Congrats, lilybelle ! You truly are a delight.

Ungaro II
for me. Just bought another backup of this discontinued fragrance on the 'bay. Talk about being a squirrel...

Enjoy your Sunday, folks.

One of my faves right now- Dahlia Noir EDT. Has a peach note in there Mimi!.

@ Jon-the bottle and the notes look very impressive in that one! Olive, basil, lotus, jasmine and magnolia? Count me in. My nose is so curious!

The bike ride was great! The wind was gently cooling us down in this wonderful sunlight. Now I'm refreshed after a shower. Unfortunetely Dior Eau Noire didn't work for me. I think the caraways (or maybe coffee, or both) are hard for me to to bear. I wanted to like it but I just end up feeling uneasy.

My after shower SotA is Serge Lutens Fleurs de Citronnier. Now I smell fabulous!

Using up the last of my Givenchy Amarige Mariage this morning, with

sandalwood and benzoin.

Have a great day!

Congrats to Lilybelle! Keep 'em coming.

SOTD is Caron Royal Bain de Champagne, wish you all a lovely Sunday xo

Hello everyone. Congratulations Lilybelle!

Cristalle for me today. Need something uplifting.
After my hopes were raised yesterday, Baxter deteriorated rapidly overnight and she died at the vet’s this morning. I take some comfort from the fact that she had a long, happy and healthy life with us for almost 20 years, but I’m still heartbroken, and I’ll miss her more than I can say.

Thanks again for all your kind thoughts yesterday. x

I'm so sorry for your loss devilcat. Losing such a friend is heartbreaking. Come here, I'll give you a hug...

((devilcat)), I'm so sorry about Baxter. 20 years is a long time to love a pet-- it's a long time to love anyone! I hope you will find some comfort in your good memories of her.

Lilybelle, congrats on 8000 posts!

It's finally cooler here-- still warm but pleasant, not humid. I'm wearing L'Artisan Fleur d'Oranger layered with Provence Santé Tilleul-- they're really nice together.

(((Devilcat))) - I'm very sorry about Baxter . Take comfort in that you gave Baxter a life of love . Thinking of you today . Love Mims XXX

Oh devilcat, your wee cat. I am so sorry. It was her time, and to have reached that good old age is a testament to how well cared for and happy she must have been in her life.

Thank you for the congratulations. Stick around long enough and look what happens! I love you all to bits.

SotM early was a spritz of Estee Lauder Beyond Paradise, which works very well in the heat and humidity. Now that I'm back home after church and breakfast out, I plan to stay home and relax. Going to watch Euro Cup this afternoon. I have no idea what SotA/E will be.

I hope everyone has had/is having a good Sunday! So far so good here. Love to all. ♥

Devilcat, I am so sorry for your loss!

I'm wearing By Kilian Liaisons Dangereuses today. The weather is miserable here today, but this scent makes me feel so comfy.
Devilcat, pets are one of the family so the attachment and feeling of loss is fully understandable. Take comfort in the fact she had a contented life in a caring environment. She reached a remarkable age so the memories will be abundant. Thinking of you and sending my condolences.

Alityke / kalli, I agree with you both on the FD'U bottle, though regrettably mine is one of the 13 ml sample sprays. Nowhere near as aesthetically pleasing. Maybe I'll upgrade

Going with another this evening - Mefisto

Top notes - Lemon, Grapefruit, Bergamot
Heart notes - Rose, Iris
Base notes - Mysore Sandalwood, Cedarwood, Ambergris, Musk

Doesn't have the uniqueness of Fiore d'Ulvio but while this sort of composition had been done before I don't recall it being executed with such aplomb. I get the Silver Mountain Water comparisons (up to a point) but the Ambergris is far less heavy in the base and the overall quality is superior. Impressed

Well to fragrance...

OK, Ms F was out on the lash yesterday, honestly you would think that we were old enough to know better. Obviously not! Aw hey ho and so what. I worked twenty five hours last weekend just on Saturday and Sunday. I am off this weekend and I deserved it..... the tapas..... the champagne..... the red wine..... the Jack and Coke nightcap! Oh I know! So I was feeling a tad delicate earlier. So, what is the remedy, a generous dose of sharp cologne, very efficacious!!

So SOTD Via Camerelle, skwoosh skwoosh, *pouf* gone. It is only an Eau De Toilette though so fair enough. Then back for some Acqua de Genova, lovely. All better.

Later, something huggy, don't know yet.

Lilybelle, wow!! You are one of my Basenotes hero's you know.
Oh no, I missed Devilcat's sad news on my fly-by earlier. I am so sorry. It is heartbreaking to lose your friend of 20 years. My condolences to you, dear (((Devilcat))).

Foustie, you are a sweetie. Thank you.

Devilcat, I'm so sorry about Baxter.

I'm wearing Bal de Roses today. Gorgeous drydown!

Good Evening,

Marinating in Mouchoir de Monsieur tonight. Went for a long run earlier and I'm knackered. Trying now to muster the energy to go and make a cuppa. I really need a wife (*ducks for cover * ). I kid... a servant would do.

Foustie - You do indeed deserve it. 3 pm has always been the time when all hangovers magically disappear for me. If however, you've found an alternative remedy, especially a fragrance based one, then I'm all ears.

No SotD postings from Larimar this weekend ? Hope all's well.

Best to all.

I'm almost 100% sure he's found a secret Jicky Pool somewhere nearby his place and he's absolutely fine.
_____

Time to prepare for today's evening game England-Italy in Euro 2012. It's drink o'clock - mint vodka with lemon juice and crushed ice. The weather is getting heavy, I think the storm is coming, they said so in weather forecast.
Fleurs de Citronnier is gone now but I'm fine with that. I rarely wear two perfume per day.

Sure, folks! Thanks for missing me though! (())
I'm sorry, devilcat! I lost my most beloved dog to cancer and she deteriorated so quickly that it was a nightmare... gosh, our pets!
G. wants a servant, aren't we a bit upper class today, Mister?! Does it come from marinating in royal jus like MdM?
Vega tonight and yes, it was Jicky all day yesterday.
(((Devilcat))) my condolences on the loss of Baxter. Thinking of you and yours.

This evening I'm recalibrating after the sampling in Jicky.*waves to Larimar over the fence*

The HdP Tubereuses 2 & 3 were not to my taste. "How would one like ones white flowers Madame? Curried or candied?"
Wearing some l 'heure bleue extrait, thanks to a kind Basenoter. No melancholia for me in this one...more like a beckoning magic doorway to a very different place. How could I resist going through? Lovely!
Jon - will PM later !

I'm taking a break from cooking . I made a huge batch of Portobello Mushroom Lasagna . Just mushrooms , béchamel sauce , Parmesan and lasagna . Heavenly for mushroom lovers !

This afternoon I layered Rush with X for women from a decant . The aroma of both with mushroom lasagna is actually probably what my heaven would smell like !
Wore EL Youth Dew this morning to church --it goes well with all the incense.
Now I'm wearing Caron 3eme Homme, and it's giving me a happy vibe.

Mimi, The lasagna smells wonderful! Can't wait to try it.
I picked a sample today from my recent binge.

Parfum d'Empire Ambre Russe.

First thoughts: This is NOT a July scent.
Also, this celebrated boozy opening is harsh and unpleasant to me, in a way champagne/vodka would never be irritating. It's too chemical or something. (I know, not articulate)
But after a few minutes, I get the magic. It's spicy, tea and amber and a little sweet. A lot going on here and NOT boring. I hate being bored, lol. And leather! A subtle leather, but it's in there too.

Must try again in colder weather.

Good afternoon, today in Woodland Strawberry from Neil Morris.

Devilcat, I am so sorry your cat died, hugs to you. Glad he didn't have to suffer a long decline and got to be with you till the end, and 20 years!

Had a lovely evening at Cleveland's best Brazilian spot, Sergio's Sarava, to which I wore two Myrurgias, vintage Maja over vintage Maderas de Oriente, the Maja tamed the more outspoken Maderas for a perfect sexy combo. Live Brazilian jazz, so I said hi to the bandleader Moises Borges and will be sitting in with by bass two weeks hence. Wearing the same Myrurgias no doubt.

Update: SOTN: to bed to another Myrurgia, the cool, herbal/citrus/floral Nueva Maja, one of my favorite summer-night fragrances.

Boone nuit, or, better, buenos noches!
