Good morning,

Blue sky again and we are heading towards another heatwave starting by the end of this week. Fine with me ! I'm on a light lunch (fruit and müsli only) diet this week, so this should be perfect for the summery weather.

I'm in Jicky EdP today. And I am so excited I scored another flacon of the original Shiseido Rose de Nuit from the evil bay I could burst (hope the bottle does not in transit). This is the stuff to cause a commotion...

Have a great day all!

Good Morning,

Congrats on your score, Larimar ! Great find. I know how much you love this one.

I just have to share a story from last night's opera going:

During one of the intervals, I wanted to refresh my scent, so ducked into the toilet. Being somewhat self-conscious about spritzing in view of others, I decided to do so in the privacy of a cubicle. I noticed a small bin of the type usually reserved for women’s products, which I thought was a little odd, but then again, I had just seen a couple of men in the bar clad head-to-toe in PVC (!), so, ya know...

To my horror, I then started hearing the ‘click-clack’ of high-heels on tiles, and women’s voices. At which point the penny dropped: I was trapped in the Female loos ! I waited and waited and waited, ear-to-door, until all was quiet, then opened the cubicle door just a smidge to peek out. With the coast clear, I made a dash for it. Unfortunately, just as I laid my hand on the door handle to pull it open, a lady pushed from the outside. Our eyes met with a shared look of panic. Not knowing what else to do, I simply said ‘Good Evening’, held the door open for her, and walked briskly away.

The worst part was I couldn’t stop laughing to myself about it during the tragic final act.

Anyway, thanks to a certain someone ^^, I have the absolute privilege of testing some JAR scents this week. Today will be Ferme tes Yeux and Golconda. Way excited.

Have a lovely Tuesday, all.

G., you are the best!!!! And your reaction 'Good evening'.... *burst with laughter* Imagine the lady's horror if you had been wearing Ferme tes Yeux... freshly applied that is...

Morning all. That's a good story G - sounds like you got out of an awkward situation with some panache!

Lilybelle - glad you are OK.
Leesee - hope you're feeling better.

It's a beautiful day here and I will be wearing No 5 Eau Premiere I think. Seem to be craving Chanels at the moment. Thanks again lovely people for all your messages and hugs. Have a great day everyone.

Good morning!

That's so funny, Gandhajala and I like the way you handled the situation!

Haven't really decided what to wear today, but it's OJ Frangipani.

Just getting ready to leave for Heathrow Airport and then I'm off to Tokyo.

Have a great day!

Courtesy of our dearest Larimar I'm going Jickylicious today with Jicky in Eau de Parfum which results in me being a Larimar's fragrance twin today! I'm so lucky! Lucky, lucky, lucky!

The weather's bad again. Cold, windy, with a high chance of raining.

I need to go to the post office to pick up a package (probably some more samples arrived!) and then I have to make a short power point presentation for Friday.
Great weather today, just a bit windy, clear blue sky... very unusual here in Milan! Celebrating with Al Oudh, from a sample.
Have a nice day, all of you.

Goooood morning! A sunny morning and the most cheery vignette, courtesy of our own dear G. Love it, love it. You made me laugh out loud this morning. Mr F was hopping about trying to get into his underpants (why do men do that?) and wondering what I was laughing about. He he! It was all hilarious and surreal, like finding yourself in the middle of a farce, or Fawlty Towers! Thanks G!!

Well I ended up in the fab Eau Des Iles again last night. This morning, another MPG, Jeune Homme for this not so jeune femme. Oh the optimism when I first sprayed this salty citrus, neroli, herbs. Then again *pouf*!!. As fleeting as youth itself. Is is me?

Congrats Larimar. Do tell us more....and you seem to have made our Lucas a very happy jeune homme this morning!

" Dressed" now, in Maria Candida Gentile Sideris after reading a super review of it by gimmegreen which describes how it has no "hesperidic boosters" but cuts straight to the chase with a "kittenish rose" supported by frankincense. I hear ya!

Revisiting my sample of Bvlgari Black because of Alityke's mentioning of it yesterday. I don't get that rubbery note either. Leather but no rubber. This so much reminds me of Malle's Musc Rav. The Black is discontinued, yes? Sad.

You smell great, Lucas

Foustie, I got a bottle of the original Shiseido (pre-Serge Lutens label) 1993 (?) Rose de Nuit, which is practically the same frag with the great difference in the base. The original was hugely animalic (mind you, Rose de Nuit stays rather close to skin) and the animalics seemed to be replaced by beeswax/honey later. Both are fantastic, but the original is an absolute stunner. This is THE fragrance to cause a commotion and bound to trigger a (positive) comment by someone getting close to its wearer. It's abysmal and does growl or howl or whatever the heck...

This is a pic of my first bottle I got in a swap that I posted a while back. Now I have a nearly full second one on its way.

Since Foustie mentioned G and Fawlty Towers, it occurred to me this morning that G.'s story could have happened to Tom Sharpe's 'Henry Wilt', in case anyone remembers him. The only difference would be that Henry Wilt would not in the least have mastered the situation as greatly.
Great job, G., on getting out of that situation. It happened to me once, it does to the best of us sometimes. I was not that good of a sport though, just ran, beet-red. Would like to hear more about the 5 hour performance, please?

F., nothing personal, but to my linguistic ear the name of your SotD sounds like a bad disease -- *ducks and covers* -- more so with "kittenish roses" if they are done in Keiko M. style. Any likeness to Balmain La Mome or Les Rosines at all?

I guess both c. and E. are busy watching Wimbledon? I am inHermes Hiris again, still inspired by you, c.

Reading Joanne Harris Gentlemen and Players. Lilybelle, I know you are also a fan of hers, do me a favor and put it on your To Do list, willya? Glad you are all right after that awful storm.

Good morning !. Situation handled with the utmost tact and diplomacy, G. Far better than I would have done faced with similar circumstances I'm sure.

SotD is ADP Colonia Intensa.

Good morning! My SOTD is Domenico Caraceni 1913 (vintage).

Notes include petit grain, styrax, geranium bourbon, neroli bigarade, rose, tobacco, cypress and frankincense.

Likybelle, glad to know you're ok after that storm. We had four separate storms here yesterday, each with flooding windswept rains and cracking thunder. As each one ended, the sun came out and completely dried the walks, then it got pitch dark and the whole thing started up again. Bizarre. Thankfully we never lost power, no small thing.

SOTD is Serge Lutens Fumerie Turque on this blessedly clear, dry, and much cooler day. Best to all!

Good morning everyone Today I'm testing Orchidee vanille from the "missing" sample pack. ( sorry about that ) The weather is quite cloudy and not too hot ( about 10 degrees or so), so it doesn't get too much. Hope you all have a great day!

Nothing personal taken wolfie! Ha ha. To answer your question; I have little 15mls of MCG Sideris and Exultat. I know and like the Rosine's. They have little or nothing in common with these. The Rosine's are overall refreshing and bright, cheery, clear. These are well...purry and blurred, a bit contemplative. Been dying to try Keiko M but haven't yet, and I don't know the Balmain. The MCG's are modern/classical I think. Composed with naturals but of a quite classical character?! They are like perfumed clouds!! I have to be in the mood. There are some threads with mini reviews that a few of us posted if you are interested..oh and also I have just included Sideris in a pack for one of the American girls. Maybe she can do a better comparison? (Hope so)!

Thanks Larimar! Enjoy that one!!

Gabe? Where are you? How did you find the Grey Vetiver yesterday? I am goin to bet that you liked it!!

I will check that one out, Wolfie. I do lover her. The title seems familiar, actually, I may have already read it, but I've forgotten it if I have - might be time for a re-read!

Thank you Devilcat and PerfumedLady. All is lovely today - it is cool and breezy and sunshiny, just like being back in spring. You'd never know anything happened but for all the debris.

Divatologist, it's good to see you! Glad you had a nice day yesterday.

Got my Dueto samples in the mail last night - I was kinda bummed that I got two of Lady Cool by accident and City Oud was missing, but Golden Boy and City Love were there, so can;t really complain about free samples.

Anyway, today I'm testing out Dueto City Love. The copy lists violet, lemongrass, cinnamon, rose absolute, geranium, egypt essence, patchouli, cypriol essense and oud. On my skin the top notes me a bit of Rochas Tocade in that rosey, vanilla, powdery aspect. The patchouli is minty, the cypriol very woody and musky, it's more reminiscent of oud rather than like an aoud attar, I think it may be the geranium that is exploding on my skin. Unfortunately I'm not a fan of geranium, for some reason it irritates my nose with its dry, powdery, astrigent quality. I don't really notice any of the other notes at this time. I would like to revisit this in cooler weather though, it's a bit much for the hot weather right now.

Same Dueto set for me.
I feel bad for saying it, but I found them horrendously synthetic smelling. And dull. Maybe I've just been spoiled.

Of the two JAR perfumes I tested today, Ferme tes Yeux definately bested Golconda. Being a lover of skank and a hater of carnation, it was never really going to be a fair match. FtY is one poopy mother. Civet aside, I found it very difficult to pick out any particular notes. One thing that did strike me however, was how differently it developed on skin vs mouillette. On the latter, it turned very camphorous (I dislike camphor) after a few hours, whereas on skin, the sweetness really came out. I can imagine this is one that will haunt me for some time...

SotE is another treat: Vintage Liu extrait (kindly supplied by Larimar). Gosh these old Guerlains are magical.

Enjoy the Tennis, those who indulge.
Best to all.

Yup, a good start from the Scot.

I must just add I'm really, really enjoying my SotE. On a serious aldehydic floral kick right now, and Liù has come at just the right moment. Rarely seems to get mentioned around these here parts though - is it simply a question of limited availability ?

You guys/gals with the Duetos- check your bottle shaped paper insert for City Oud. Mine had been clearly doused with it and I was able to give it a good sniff. However, I took mine out of the package last night and the scent has nearly faded entirely now. Not sure if you'll still be able to pick it up if they've been sitting out, like mine has.

Today Mango from the body shop and Jailia! The last of the bottle but I have a backup bought it on ebay when I was afraid it was not going to be available. Good price. Actually, I just used up the backup and now am going back to the first bottle I bought.

Other scents of the day were Toujours Moi and Chantilly. This evening's SotE is By Kilian's Love (don't be shy). I needed something rich and syrupy and extraity, and this really fills that need for me. I think I'm going to bite the bullet on this one and make a purchase (I'm on my second sample - that's a sign, right?).
in Jarling tonight...you know, that skanky blast in Fermes Tes Yeux lasts about 2 minutes and is almost completely gone in 20 minutes. Although it is not my most fav Jar, I could easily wear it to an Opera. It doesn't waft at all...I don't why it gets such a big rep for that...APLS is way skankier after the first half hour, and lasts for about 24 hours, no joke. In the niche market, many many things could quite easily out-skank FTY, IMHO. Jar scents are not these longevity or sillage monsters...unfortunately, in the case of Jarling...

Oh I wound up wearing Aromatics Elixir today. We went to a park in DuPont Circle to watch my favorite movie "Grease". It was so beautiful out tonight. The cool air and gentle breeze were perfect for AE.
