A better version of Liz Claiborne Curve?

I see that many of the members here have made known their distaste for Liz Claiborne Curve, for various reasons. My nose is too untrained to see what's so objectionable about this scent. But I trust the collective judgment. Since I like the top-notes and the overall feel of this particular fragrance, I humbly seek wisdom and counsel from the sages of Basenotes: What cologne has the same overall smell as Curve, but done in a better way, with more quality ingredients?

The only thing that comes to mind is Riverside Drive by Bond No.9. The notes they share are pineapple, sandalwood, violet leaf, and cedar.

Trust your own nose. Claiborne's legendary "green dragon" is a hit for a reason. Women love it and it has probably migrated to the periphery of the mainstream long enough now to have some novelty and distinction.

It's a better than Chez Bond which I gave an F. Would be a decent summer fragrance, but nothing special. On scent alone I would give it a C. Silliage and Longevity it would get a C. Price it gets an F. Uniqueness it gets a B. Would I buy a bottle of it? Absolutely not! I feel generous give this one a C.

@silentrich: in the review quoted above you gave it a C. How can a C-grade perfume be a better version of Curve? is Curve that bad?

I actually remember really liking Curve back when I was working at Dayton's (now Macy's) the summer after my freshman year of college. I'd walk by the cologne counter and give myself a spray now and then. Haven't smelled it since, but I'm positive it will bring back memories.

I'd also be interested to know if there's a high quality version of this scent.

Curve just smells cheap, synthetic and soapy, but depending on skin chemistry, some people may be able to wear it well.

I'm not a fragrance snob that only goes for niche. I've given multiple colognes under $25 higher ratings than colognes over $75, and I often diverge away from public opinion on basenotes to support what I truly feel is an underrated fragrance. Regarding Curve, this is not one of those times.

Don't remember it being soapy when I smelled it, but I think the first two adjectives are apt.

Chanel Platinum Egoiste is your answer!

I can only hope you are joking. The two have no similarities to my nose, much less one being a better version of the other...

Riverside Drive is $150 to over $200 a bottle. If Riverside Drive was $10 like curve then it would be a different story. I own Curve Soul which I think is a better version of Curve and I paid a whopping $12 for it.

Ha! Curve makes a wintergreen note on my skin. Needless to say, it only attracted chicks that liked breath mints...wintergreen ones.

Curve is universally adored by women. I get a compliment every time I wear it. There is no "better" version of it. It's already a pretty stout fragrance. It projects well and lasts at least 6 hours, not bad for an EDC. It's also heavily discounted at most retailers. It gets a lot of hate on here b/c it doesn't have oud in it, and b/c the average person would probably think it smells better than a By Kilian or Frederick Malle fragrance. I think it's pretty fantastic considering it's price and highly synthetic composition. Don't settle for anything less than the best. Just buy the real Curve.

But b/c you asked for similar fragrances, I'll at least tell you to check out Abercrombie Fierce, Platinum Egoiste, and Mont Blanc Legend, b/c they all have a similar vibe. I honestly think Curve smells better than all 3 though.

These with Davidoff Champion, I also think Curve Soul is less synthetic and better.

Absolutely agree with this suggestion

The only cologne I can think of that comes remotely close to curve is the blue bottle from bath and body works. C.O. Bigelow I believe. Hope this helps
