Tom Ford Private Blend price hike

Looks like Bloomingdale's is the first victim of the price hike.

Here's the old price breakdown of Tom Ford Private Blends:
1.7 oz - $195
3.4 oz - $265
8.4 oz - $475

Here's the new price breakdown that I see on Bloomingdale's:
1.7 oz - $205
3.4 oz - $280
8.4 oz - $495

The TF Rep at Neiman Marcus told me the price increase was effective July 1.

It's not a huge price hike, but I think they're overpriced already for what you get.
Yeah I don't think any of them are worth that price except Tobacco Vanille and maybe Tuscan Leather. Seems like they wanted to get the price hike in before the new Private Blends are released this fall.

Yeah, most of their fragrances are overwhelmingly pricey, that's why I prefer to get in on a split. Also, I'm no sales guy, but I would imagine that $195 would be visually far more appealing than $205. Just like the 99 cent concept (i.e. pricing something at $7.99 instead of $8.00).

For me, Tom Ford's price hiking is too regular an occurence.
Brutal.... over $4/ml....
I love them, but this is simply too much.
Nothing against the line, but I never found them worth investment at the old price... less so now.
the price is becoming ridiculous now, £135 for 50ml! Thank goodness for ebay. Also for that price you would expect bottles that didn't just have stickers on them!

Another instance of the powerless consumer ...

I couldn't agree with you more. Very bland and overrated but most importantly too pricey!!

Completely agree. Didn't they begin at below £100 only a few years ago? Too much.

Sigh.

I agree that they can be overpriced. However, there are still some ways you can get it for cheaper, such as via duty free or when eBates has a good cash back deal for the store. For example, right now via eBates, you can get 10% cash back from Bloomingdales.

Don't get me wrong, even after discounts, the Tom Ford Private Blends are still very expensive. Just thought I'd point out ways you can get it cheaper. Oh yeah, and don't forget about splits.
I can't see how 100ml of any I have tried warrants USD 280 myself, but if people are prepared to pay that for what they produce then good luck to them, I guess.
Guerlain charges 250-260 (around there) for 75ml, Kilian charges about the same for merely 50ml (sometimes upwards of 400 for the "oud-based" (so they say) fragrances). Perhaps it says a lot about how desensitized some in the niche community are becoming to high prices but 200 for 50ml isn't too insane when you look at other niche houses. I suppose, as many have said, it all comes down to what you value the scent to be and whether it's worth the cost.

It should be fairly evident by now eBay is the best place to purchase these. I've bought 2 Private line bottles (both in 50ml size) on eBay, both new/still wrapped, one for $120 and one for $125 (TL and TV).

Also: splits! The Private Line bottles are super gaudy/80's looking to me so there's no desire to pay premium for the bottle imo.

I'm glad I have a 100ml back up of my favourite Tom Ford (Tobacco Vanille) and plenty to last a lifetime of Tuscan Leather and Amber Absolute. I must admit to using eBay to purchase these anyway. Much cheaper than retail.

Just out of curiosity, is it safe to purchase Tom Ford Private Blends from eBay? Just don't want to get a fake.

I have four of them, all from ebay and all genuine. As long as you use someone with a high rating % based on a large number of customers, you'll be fine.
No surprise. A sign of the times.
Their fragrances are very very good but the price is insanely expensive.
At least for me.
I own a lot of them but i paid half retail price.

Cool. Thanks. Will check it out sometime.

With quality and to keep those standards comes a price. I have no problem with the increase if that is what is warranted to prevent skimping and bring the brand and packaging from slipping.

Lucky for me I've bought two Private Blends in the last week for under $130 each, brand new in wrappers.
There are very few TF fragrances I like anyway AND I'll only purchase from discount grey market vendors from here on out.

I really don't believe any of the Tom Fords I've tried justify that price...
I recall that ELdO thought it was funny to market their scents (many are nice) for $69 USD. Then the bottom line got the better of them and they are now $80 for most of them. Tom of Finland is $90 and Archives 69 is $99, as is Like This.

There are no counterfeits of TF Private fragrances.. and if they started to exist there would be much discussion and many threads about it. You're safe in using eBay for them.
Seems like a pretty arbitrary price hike timed for new releases.

Tom Ford is a master of marketing (and has a marketing team worth their weight in gold). I can hardly ever see myself paying for the ersatz simulacrum of luxury that he has designed, while such perfumers as Andy Tauer, Laurie Erickson, et al, are out there quietly crafting masterpieces of scent.

I've bought Tuscan Leather, White Suede & Neroli Portofino all from ebay with perfect results. All were new in wrappers and perfect condition, and I was able to save about $70 each. Patience is key with ebay.... some actually go for more than retail because people get caught up in a bidding war and don't think straight I guess. I usually bid once, at the last second (I actually use an automated program most times) and if I win, then I win..... but I don't get myself caught up in it and pay too much for an item doing it that way.

To the rich, money is never a problem. I'm a middle-class guy living in a wealthy city and I see it all of the time. They probably drop thousands of dollars on every trip to the mall. Multiple bottles of Killian, Creed or Tom Fords or multiple pairs of shoes at $250 a pop is not a problem for them. When they get a leaky Creed bottle, they probably throw it in the garbage.

BTW, did Tom Ford ever explain why he blatantly ripped off Halston with his Italian Cypress?
It's definitely a bummer to see a lot of houses hiking the prices. At least it's not like watches...their 10% increases can start to hurt after a while. That being said, I think all of the Private Blends I own, I would buy again. Maybe not Tobacco Vanille...I know most love it on here, and I think it smells pretty good, but it's one of the least interesting from the line to me.
The prices have gone up in the UK today too, Thats twice in a matter of 6 months.
They aren't hiking their prices, they are adjusting their prices to keep pace with the devaluing currency that is happening worldwide. In case you didn't notice the western financial system is collapsing.
Are there any houses that are decreasing their prices?
Well like all things, if you discontinue purchasing for a while, the price will go down.

I seriously doubt that TFs cost to produce a bottle is much higher than, say, a bottle of Cool Water. They set their prices to maximize profits, not on a "cost-plus" model. I'm sure that this increase is based solely on the fact that they didn't see much decrease in demand when they last increased, and have forecasted that they will produce more net profit with the higher prices.

I still won't buy - I got a split of TV, and feel like even that was a ripoff now. The bottle of Pure Havane that I recently purchased is twice the volume, 70% the cost, and much more interesting as a fragrance (although not as a case study in marketing and price setting). None of the others have even tempted me.

what's up with all of these price hikes???
