LOL I read a post on another site recently that declared White Shoulders is "only for grandmas". So now I will imagine a street corner at 2 am bustling with ladies using walkers....LOL

Starlet- something by Chanel or Jo Malone
Streetwalker- Anything by Paris Hilton

Streetwalker: Blue Gardenia

I personally prefer streetwalkers over starlets any day and would buy a lot more mainstream designer fragrances if random (especially trans and high-agency) ladies of the night hawked them as opposed to the subtle courtesan House-whoring of actresses.

Streetwalker: my lover Gucci Rush (her packaging and association with that tacky pimp Tom Ford gave her a bad reputation, but really she's rather elegant and oldtime Dior, but just as full-makeup and seamed stockings read as too much today, so does fruit chypre and apparently things like White Shoulders?).

Starlet: Daim Blond, that is, overrated, blonde, makes too much money, "bisexual" for publicity. (Oh but really I love it).

Starlet - Violet Blonde (Platinum blonde, gold, diamonds and fur coats, killer stilettos, little black dress, mafia entourage and a pearl handled gun slipped into those lacy thigh high stockings.)
Streetwalker - Theo Fennell Scent (Pissy, animalic, sweaty, musky dirty girl!)

Grandmas of the Night.

I tried to post this earlier but it crashed out...

Anomie et ivoire, I love your post (I think you may have nailed it there), and I love your signature quotes, especially Proust's.

MdM, I see, is drawn to this thread's title.

I will take a try...

Streetwalker: No. 5

Starlet: unknown (but for those who know), small house's perfume oil, while professing to wear the scents their faces advertise.

lilybelle Thanks very much, and I'm loving your fun approach to fragrance madness. You're the one who really nailed it on the starlet front. No. 5 as a streetwalker? Aldehydic sluttiness?

firehorse fantastic mental image. Honestly a fragrance inspired by the idea of a semi-robotic, lascivious lady of a certain age might be THE FUTURE. Why not have the Rascalettes work the middle of the grand canyon while singing too?

Oh, this thread is hilarious! Especially the streetwalking grandmas!

Hmmm, Streetwalker and Starlet...

Is it weird that I can only think of one fragrance for both categories, and that the categories do not seem entirely exclusive? I hope I don't sound evil and mean saying that- maybe I am just jaded from living in LA! lol! Anyway, Violet Blonde is the only thing that comes to mind. I want to like it, it has the "look," it's nice at first, but then it quickly descends into cheap musk territory with no real integrity or beauty, like a disgusting body spray to cover body odor.

For old fashioned versions from yesteryear, perhaps:

Streetwalker: Ma Griffe (new, loud version)
Starlet: Arpege (vintage, of course!)

cestrum nocturnum! I have to suppress the urge to nuzzle into you right now lol

As an aside (apologies for the hijack) do you know of any good fragrances that capture the beauty of cestrum nocturnum? Such an elusive scent, both botanically and commercially. I have just ordered some Raat Ki Rani oil off Ebay and am hoping for the best, but thought you may have some secret knowledge as to any obscure finds.

It drives me nuts that I can only obtain that scent during Summer when my neighbour's lush vines puff out their seducing sighs at me, at random. L'heure Bleue captures some of it, but not close enough.

Starlet - Beige
Streetwalker - Shalimar
in my 'drobe:
•Starlet: Panthère de Cartier, sweet, attention getting, yet with an ingenue vibe
•Streetwalker: a toss-up between Shalimar and Miss Dior. Miss Dior is redolent of the deed, but Shalimar is all, "Hey, big spender", to wit:

Lol, nuzzling is fine, although I think people might generally be more interested in muzzling me! Lol! I love your screen name by the way!

Sadly, I have not been able to find any good representations of c. nocturnum in perfumes either! I am totally addicted to the scent, but do grow anosmic to it quickly; it’s such torture, as I just want to smell it more and more! (I have only smelled the bushy kind, not a vine. I have other true jasmine vines, but they are less intoxicating and heady, and seem more easily replicated.) I have read that Jasmin de Nuit is supposed to be close; while it is nice, I did not find it similar. Oddly, the smell of the new version of L’Origan *sniffed from the dry sprayer only* reminded me most of it, but once it is sprayed it is not similar AT ALL.

Ok, to pretend I was not completely off topic this entire time, here are my streetwalker/starlet picks for today:

Streetwalker: Sensuous Nude (which also turns into a revolting cheap musk on my skin, just like VB)
Starlet: Allure
