Need Sandalwood recommendations

Thread Starter
I've been wearing Crabtree & Evenlyn's Essence of Mysore Sandalwood for 20 years - I love that it is a unisex scent, not overpowering, and not too sweet. The last time I ordered a bottle, I was disappointed to find that the formulation has been changed. Evidently, mysore sandalwood is farmed out and no longer available. They've replaced mysore with Australian sandalwood, which does not smell as nice. I loved the whole scent-story of C&E's mysore, but particularly liked the drydown. Does anyone have any suggestions for other scents I might like?
Thanks!

Welcome to BN!

Creed Santal Imperial is very nice. Last I checked, you could still order it online through Niemans.

The Art of Shaving Sandalwood EDT is worth trying.

I've never tried the older, discontinued version of Crabtree & Evelyn Sandalwood, but I quite like the current version.

I think it was Elizabeth Arden that did a very good and affordable Sandalwood scent that I liked. Got a couple for my father for Christmas some years back. Think it was via FragranceX and he loved them!

Creed Original Santal

My fav so far, I'll have to try the Bois as well though.

+1...This is some great stuff in my opinion. I use it by itself and layered with other frags. Some people don't like the slight medicinal smell to it, but I love it, and it's just about the only sandalwood prominent frag that doesn't turn powdery that I have found. I love Sandalwood, but so many fragrances out there that have it as a prominent note turn powdery, and I am not a fan of powder. I was beginning to think that it was a sandalwood thing until I got AOS Sandalwood, no powder at all.

Santal Noble is a great fragrance well worth checking out but it definitely doesn't include mysore. You might want to give a chance to Villoresi Sandalo as well...very dry.

+1 for Tam Dao.

Some of the Sandalwoods offered by traditional gents barbers in London might be worth a look though.

D R Harris, Truefitt & Hill, Taylors of Old Bond Street and Geo F Trumper ALL have Sandalwood scents and Floris have Santal of course.

IMO the Taylors is a very sweet Sandalwood, the Trumpers is very soapy, and the T&H very woody. I haven't tried the DR yet, but my pick would be the T&H from that bunch, as always YMMV.. it is also the most expensive as well

I'd skip Santal 33 and Santal Masoia if you're looking for a very traditional sandalwood aroma.
