No specific financial value I can think of, nor a certain brand of fragrances/fragrance line at a certain price, but far more constant purchases with retailers which offer fidelity points for recurrent customers.

However, was I to think about one specific value for money and a few specific fragrances, it was the purchase of three scents I like- Grey Flannel, Z14 and Francesco Smalto PH- priced at about 50$ all three put together, via an online retailer back in 2007.

Got one of the last two flacons of Creed Vintage Tabarome at a local department store at regular retail price, $350. At the time I knew it was worth more than that. Still kind of kicking myself for not buying the other one, too.

Other great deals include:

Random purchase of Gucci Nobile, right before it vanished from local stores.

Any purchase of vintage Roger & Gallet fragrances. I love them all. Love the packaging. Love the superb matching soaps.

Vintage YSL M7, around $45, in a local store. There's at least one more left there. . . I am sorely tempted. . .

A nice 100ml of Dior Homme Intense, vintage model, around $95 online. Not the best price for it, but I still think it's one of the best deals ever.
I also got a 99% full 4 oz. bottle of Gucci Nobile off of Craigslist for $35 shipped

I bought five of these. Another good deal was an untouched, factory sealed vintage, French-made 240 ml. bottle of Canoe in all the original packaging that had been stored for decades wrapped in cotton wool in cool, dry basement by a fanatic perfume collector in Columbus, Ohio. $50. Also a bottle of extremely rare, long-discontinued Bogart Bois de Vetiver from the early '80s, $32.

how about people post their bargain hunting techniques as well. I'll be moving to Knoxville, TN, and I have a feeling there will be some good random deals to be had there

Best technique: relentless shopping. In a new town? Check out the stores. Hit shopping mall stores in smaller towns -- lots of hidden gems in them. I recently saw lots of great bargains at a shopping mall kiosk in a small-ish town on the east coast. You could tell the proprietor had no idea of what he had there, and the shoppers in that area weren't too interested. Wow. Lots of great stuff there.

The good thing about going to actual bricks-and-mortar stores is you can see what you're buying before you lay down the cash. Yes, you can find some deals online, but there are lots of ripoffs out there, too. I prefer buying in stores. I get more of the "thrill of the kill" effect. And there's the immediate gratification angle, too - you get to take it out of the shop, and spray it right then. (I was going to say "take it home," but so often I can't wait, and immediately crack it open when I get to the car.)

I hear lots of great stories about thrift shops, garage sales, estate sales, etc. But I don't have the patience for all that grunge shopping. Regular retail is easier.

Best way to sample a lot: go to a big city where they have lots of high-end stores, and plan a shopping safari. You can make out like a bandit with samples, especially if you buy something from one of the most expensive stores first, and then let every other store see you with the shopping bag from their competitor. Funny how that works.

2008. one of the original L'air du desert Marocain 100ml bottles with 50 ml in it for $40. Might not have been a steal at the time, but in terms of the value I received for the money I spent, nothing has made me happier for such a small investment.

I'm pretty sure that one was from Buzzlepuff.
