Hello everyone,
I had an unsettling feeling for a while at work today due to comments I'd received from customers regarding a sharp smell in the store.
I work in the retail business during summer when I'm not attending school and I started the day off by getting ready in the employee restroom, which only consists of applying my day's fragrance since I don't like to apply beforehand, and today I went with Terre d'Hermes. The atomizer is nice and delivers powerful spritzes comparable only to my Creed bottle and I went with four total sprays: two to the chest and one to each forearm.
Fast-forward three hours to when a guy enters the store and made a facial expression as if he just got a whiff of smelling salts and asked another employee and myself if something sharp had been sprayed. Neither my co-worker nor myself had any idea. Shortly thereafter, a family had come in, and of all days my area manager had been there and came up to the front of the store and told us the family could smell something repugnant in the store; he then went to investigate what it could be and found nothing.
And lastly, after all of us couldn't conclude anything, a woman in the store came to the counter and exclaimed a strong smell was permeating the store. Curious at this point if it could be myself - since I'd never worn TdH to work before - I asked the woman to describe the smell. She told me it smelled like Vicks vapor rub, and then almost like Pinesol. At this point I wondered if I could be projecting that badly in the store and my co-workers and myself had only what could be described as olfactory fatigue . Funny, though, my co-worker actually complimented my "cologne" and was so intrigued he asked what kind it was and where he could possibly find it. Afterwards a young attractive female my age (23) entered the store and didn't mention any offensive smell and stuck around after making a purchase for small-talk, whereupon I casually asked if she could smell anything offputting in the store. She only said that it sort of smelled like cleaner but didn't smell bad.
I could certainly smell the TdH on myself hours afterward and believe I started to pysche myself out as I began feeling a headache come on - either a placebo effect from thinking my fragrance was so unpleasantly strong it was making me feel ill, or that I had a legitimate headache from the heat/anxiety/etc.
