No, you are not alone.

It took me years of blinding headaches lasting for 8 hours before I finally found out - after reading it in a natural healing book - that whenever I either
a. skipped a coffee (as when I was travelling), or
b. slept in and so went over 24 hours without a coffee, or
c. someone gave me decaffinated coffee,
that I would get the equivalent of a hangover.

Apparently the brain swells within its casing causing the headache, and there is no remedy. Headache pills didn't work, nor did having a late coffee. Drinking tea as a substitute before hand didn't work either.

Apparently, this afflicts about a third of people who try to give up coffee. All they have to do is suffer the headaches for six or seven weeks, and they are then over their addiction.

End result was that I switched to instant coffee, and had one in the morning and one before going to bed at night.

Fortunately, I'm not as bad nowadays - I can go a bit over 24 hours without getting the headaches, and so have gone back to strong coffees in addition to instant.
Regards,
Renato

Robert Timms Full Bodied Instant coffee this morning to wake me up.

A nice strong Faggs Royal Espresso from my espresso machine tonight, and I fell asleep in front of the TV immediately afterwards.

I've become quite a fan of the American Faggs brand in the last few months.

Maxwell House French Roast and maybe a Red Bull later. (I didn't sleep at all last night and will need the boost!)

Interesting comments about caffeine addiction/withdrawal. I've never experienced bad headaches, only mild ones, but I get depressed without coffee. Have tried quitting before but can't stand the sluggish feeling that occurs.

Have a great day everyone! Enjoy your COTD.
