Penhaligon's cheap on eBay UK

Just something I've been wondering, that maybe someone can shed some light on.

Penhaligon's fragrances don't appear to be discounted at any regular stores or discount sites in the UK - they typically sell for full price of £80 for 100ml, or thereabouts.

But on eBay UK, there always seems to be a number of sellers offering new bottles for around £40 - and I've never seen any for sale at those prices outside of eBay.

I'm just wondering where they might be getting them and how they can sell them so cheap. Any suggestions?

No idea... I have been searching for the vintage Victorian Posy but those weren't cheap.

You could ask them directly I suppose. Maybe they had surplus stock. Are they the new ones?

It's mostly male fragrances like English Fern, Blenheim Bouquet, Quercus, etc, that I've been seeing - and there's a number of different sellers offering them.

Sorry, meant to say yes, they're new - not always in boxes, but often they are.

I've often wondered the same thing about Tom Ford's Private Blends - given their restricted availability in stores, how is it that they're so readily available on ebay at roughly 2/3's retail?!

Actually that is expensive last year they seemed to be going for around £25 from a few sellers. I think testers myself and perhaps people working for the company, it is always the same sellers.

I think Donna is probably correct. I've noticed that it's the same (limited number of) sellers, offering a restricted range, and often without packaging.

I've actually purchased some off eBay, and the stuff has been good - certainly not counterfeit.

Same here. Incidentally House of Fraser are having a beauty sale with 10% off, they stock a few Penhaligon's (and a few Lutens).

They'll most likely have come from the Penhaligon's outlet stores. I popped into the one outside York a couple of weeks back and they had most of the range for, I think, £30 for a 100ml bottle. They didn't carry any of the new frags though, so no Sartorial or Juniper Sling, but just about everything else I could think of.

I think there is a store at the Bicester outlet. I will have a look for you next time I go. I'm sure there is one there.

Are you looking for a particular one? I could get it for you if I see it.

Tell you what...It must be a very old pic, coz I'm sure you cannot get Victorian Posy new any more and I'm sure it's the first bottle on the shelf there.

The official German distributer dumps all his surpus stuff on ebay.de (also TDC, Detaille, Tonnato and many other brands). I got my Blenheim Christmas gift set for way under 50% retail.

I noticed Cheapsmells just got a few in stock, available at a decent discount:

Why they never have Sartorial with that good prices?
I love that fragrance. Its not a best-seller?

That's a very kind offer - but I was really just wondering about the reasons, thanks. I'm pretty sure I'll get a bottle of Sartorial in the not too distant future, but as that's quite a new one it isn't really being discounted yet.

It's good to know it's genuine stuff, thanks.

I suspect it IS a best-seller, so you never see it discounted.

In the shop, they told me it was because it was so new but that if it followed the pattern of other releases, it would most likely turn up in the outlets within the next year or so.

And having said that, I've just found an eBay seller with a few 100ml bottle of Sartorial for £55, and I couldn't resist one. Will power, eh - who needs it?
