What I'm talking about here is that distinct fireplace smell. NOT to be confused with the smell of burnt wood or ashes of a campfire or firepit. I remember my house back in Europe having this distinct "smell" in the room with the fireplace. I don't ever recall it being used, so the smell isn't smoke or ashes (it has been used obviously but I'm trying to say the smell isn't around only when it is being used, it's more like a permanent smell). I have a fireplace here and it smells nothing like it whether we use it or not(most fireplaces don't smell like it, so it's not the smell of an average fireplace). I've also smelled that same smell once or twice since at other houses, both times there was a fireplace in the room. I think it is the stone and iron used to make the fireplace with the mix of burnt wood. Those of you who have smelled this before will know exactly what I'm talking about; the rest of you probably think I'm crazy, but believe me, if you have mselled it you would be on the same page
. What I'm trying to figure out is if there are any fragrances that have such a note in the composition. And also I'd like to know what it is exactly that gives that smell. (type of stone? Metal?)
