Clive Christian "V" ... anyone tried yet?

I see it's available at Nordstrom's now here.

Just curious because I love "C" and hope this is just as good ... though more expensive.

I am becoming a bit of Clive Christian fan girl. I am very excited to see V available in the US now. Pricey indeed though !
I would also love to hear opinions on both scents.

I hope to purchase this one soon.

I tried both last night. Knowing this may not help much, since I cannot go into the descriptions some of you may be able to, but I know what I like and much preferred V for Women. To me the V for Men opened with something rather off putting for my taste, and although the dry down was better, V for Women was stellar throughout the whole wearing.

V for Women is one of those scents that is a great unisex fragrance, gender neutral. It lasted a good 7-8 hours on my skin.

Is it worth the price? to me V for Men, no way. V for Women on the other hand, I wouldn't mind owning it at some point. Just don't feel like spending for it right now.

Hope this helps.

I'm wondering if V for men will be anything like Bois d'Encens.

I think frags can be compared to M. I really believe Invasion Barbare is in the same class as M. I also consider Clive Christian #1 for Men and 1872 for Men both to be outstanding frags. V has some very nice notes, so we shall see. My V sample is going to be a 2ml spray, so I'll get a good shot at getting to know it.

Thanks for the V thoughts PalmBeach and thebeck !

Since the longevity of Bois d'Encens is below average, I certainly hope that V's longevity is at least average.

The longevity of Bois d'Encens and V are about the same - not long at all. Bois d'Encens is a much better fragrance. I sprayed three sprays of "V" about 30 minutes ago - it's now very faint even when when putting my wrist next to my nose.

Pink, white and black pepper - lots of pepper - Hell I get way more pepper from Bang. I was expecting V to be a luxury version of bang, but the truth is I would rather wear Bang than V. I'm a big fan of #1 and 1872, but V just isn't in the same league as those two.

Clive and Victoria really need to back to the drawing board on this one.

Wait, the bright side is I just saved $405.00 plus tax and shipping.

Well that sucks!

Thanks , thebeck!
I do find that Clive Christian's are not very tenacious considering the price . For the price , their longevity should equal and surpass Amouage ! Quite frustrating .

Yes Mimi, for the prices I expect the longevity and quality of Puredistance. I am wearing Clive Christian #1 today. I put it on 5 hours ago, and it's still going on strong - but for $865.00 a bottle - it better. I'm the kind of guy who will spend the money if I believe in the quality. "V" and "C" for men just don't warrant those high prices. The fact is, they're so mediocre, I doubt I'd wear them if I found a bottle under the Christmas tree.

Quite true !
I was so miffed about the longevity of Clive Chrstian's X for women I emailed Clive Christian's office in UK . I didn't expect a reply but they did .
They said because of natural materials , the batches vary ( sounds very Creedy ) .
I also noticed that they have changed their bottle design very discreetly and is probably not noticeable to most people who are not looking for it.

Old design - notice the little 'o' in the middle of the 'coat of arms ' I put an arrow next to it ( not sure if the arrow is showing up though... )

New bottle- what mine looks like. No "o" .

I know it is a small difference but whenever there is a change in bottles, I think of reformulations.

i'm finding the reverse with men's version of V. it's + - 2.5 hours in and going strong.
it isn't something i'm interested in though, the frankincense is entirely too strong on my skin.

the women's version however, was just edible on the SA - outstanding on her.

I tried both versions yesterday and both are exquisite. V for Men opened with a mastic note similar to Bois d'Encens with a dashing of white pepper which makes it even sharper. This is a very simple, somewhat linear, incense scent but it is entirely satisfying. I find it more similar to Ouarzazate than Bois d'Encens, with it being bone dry, no sweetness whatsoever and has a smoldering resin base. I found the sillage/longevity about average.

V for Women is a honeyed rose chypre, similar to Soir de Lune and Beloved but with a fruitier top, a slightly drier heart and a mossier base.

Both scents are recommended to incense and chypre lovers respectively.

I happen to love simplistic, incense scents thus I found it exquisite because it ticked all of my boxes.

And I happen to like McDonald's.

Clive Christian V for men is a disappointment. smells like japan noir by tom ford. totally disliked it. It smells like rotten ashy smoky scent.
Just tried V for Men this morning. It is way too early to form any final conclusions, but on first glance it appears kind of similar to both Amouage's Epic Man and Honour Man with its huge black and pink peppery nature. Longevity appears to be quite poor on me, but after a shower the remnants of the base notes that seemed to initially disappear are still there to a minor degree. Further investigation is necessary, but I am pretty confident in saying I like but don't love it and find its cost ridiculous and completely unwarranted (... and this is coming from someone who bought and loves X for Men)...

I loved my decant of Clive Christian V for men. Very well made and simple. If you love pepper and Incense, this is the one. It lasted forever on my skin. Although it stayed close to the skin, it lasted for at least 24 hrs!!! If you love pepper and incense, try this one for yourself. I respect some of the veteran's opinions but still try this one for yourself! Besides, you are the one who have to wear it.

Heard that V for men is similar to Jacques Fath pour Homme

Had the CC "V" sample a while ago, and wasn't that motivated to try this out, so finally gave it a go last night.

"V" start out with the combination of the 3 peppers and a big dosage of raw frankincense (very similar to Bois d'Encens), then it develop into more of a lighter version oud woody Armani Prive Oud Royal with a dash of cedarwood.

The longevity is good (+6 hrs), but it become a skin scent 25 mins onward after applied with 2 sprays on the same spot, which is sad for the $$$ price on its head

agree with thebeck, "V" is no-where near the level of PD M

for that amount of $$$, i would rather stick to M or get Bois d'Encens + Oud Royal and keep some changes.

Only tried V for Women yet and thought it was over the top (read overbearing). It clearly smells expensive but not elegant or directed.
I did, as well as one other a few weeks ago (I think it was M). I was in search of "C" with no luck, so I figured I'd give the others a shot. I could be confusing them, but I believe "V" had a very strong incense smell to it, which I did not find particularly pleasing. And it was something like $400 a bottle, so for me, it was a instant pass (as was the other, by the way)

V for Men is a rich, masculine, leafy dark incense fragrance with an aroma of tobacco commingled with frankincense. The base is dry, dark and slightly sweet, sort of a hazelnut + incense coolness and reminds me of the base scent of some Cambodian Oudh oils. There is probably some oud in this as well. The scent lasts all night on me so I don't detect any weakness in it at all. V is frankincense and C is a cool dark leather. They smell vey similar to me, but C is leather and V is incense so that is the basic difference. Both V for Men and C for Men are significantly improved products over all of the earlier Clive Christian fragrances - purely my opinion on that. They both have layers of rich aroma that works very well together and much depth of development that is new for Clive Christian perfumes. Are these worth the $405 (V) or $375 (C) investment? I would say no if you don't have the money to freely afford it. They are good perfumes, but not that much better than lower priced great alternative incense and leather fragrances. V is a concentrated "pure perfume" and only a dab here and there needs to be applied. Considering the concentration these are in the same cost/value category as fragrances from Xerjoff, By Killian, Amouge and some Creed scents. I like CC V as much as the best from Xerjoff, Killian and Amouage.

Beautifully cogent description.

On a more subjective level, what is your personal preference... C or V? Thank you.

Is V the one that smells like Invasion Barbare? Or is that C? Damn Roman numerals.

C reminds me of bond Brooklyn

V or C doesn't smell like Invasion Barbare to me. V smells like Bois D Encens while C smells like a more complex Tuscan leather.

V is a incense like cedar fragrance that is quite good but I do think some incense was thrown in with ISO E Super. I love this fragrance but I'm not sure if I want to shell out $405 for 50 ml considering how much I love and own Molecule 01. What do you all think?

IMO V and 01 are different enough to consider having both in a collection. If you have the dough, buy V.
