Fragrances spotted in movies!

Tonight I was watching Moonraker and during one of the scenes a bottle of Christian Dior Dior Dior plays an interesting part.... there are two bottles, one is real and the other is a flame thrower so it kind of easy to pick up on.

I think this is the first time I have ever noticed a fragrance brand being used in a movie... has anyone else watched a movie and been like "Oh I know what they are using"?

A bottle of Mitsouko plays a symbolic role in Belle de jour, a 1970s movie by Bunuel with Catherine Deneuve.

Loved Moonraker back in the day - I'll have to watch it again. Don't recall the bottle at all.

And now must see Belle de Jour (which I may have seen, but so long ago that I don't recall for sure, and certainly don't remember Mitsouko).

Its the scene (maybe middle of the movie) where Bond goes to Dr Holly Goodhead's apartment and finds all her goodies, pen with a needle in it, diary with a poison dart and she picks up the real bottle of dior dior to use on herself and bond picks up the fake, uses it and out comes flames .

Yeah - I think I remember that, now!!!

That movie was great! Roger Moore was one of my fave Bonds.

He was good, but no Sean Connery who was the ultimate James Bond.

In belle du jour, there's a scene in which Severine/Deneuve inadvertedly smashes a pefect vintage, mossy, big round "clock" bottle of Mitsouko because she's fantasizing about becoming a prostitute. In the next scene, she does so.

But of course!

My wife has always been a Connery diehard, but Daniel Craig is definitely growing on her!

Classic! (absolutely no pun intended) Story that good can't even be hidden by a brief synopsis.

Trumpers Eucris was mentioned in Diamonds are forever as Bonds favorite scent.

wasn't that a bottle of Kouros in Polanski's Carnage?

A bottle of Santa Maria Novella's Melograno appeared at the end of Casino Royale (the newer version with Daniel Craig).

Not sure if anyone has seen / will admit to having seen L'Apollonide: Souvenirs de la Maison Close.
It is set in a turn of the century Paris brothel.
In a passionate moment, a gentleman tells a prostitute how good she smells. 'C'est Jicky de Guerlain' she replies.
Also spotted a bottle of Mitsouko on a bathroom shelf.

^ Fragrance and prostitution.... there really is a very common cultural association. Wow.

In the move American Psycho, I believe the character Patrick Bateman, shows his bottles of YSL Pour Monsieur, in a scene where he opens the bathroom mirror/cabinet.

In the film "The Duchess" Kiera Knightly in the role of the duchess finished her toilette with the help of her maid and touches on perfume at the base of her ear.

Really? Eucris (the fragrance) wasn't created until the 80's.

In the books Bond specifically says English Men don't wear scent ... they wash.

The Eucris (hair dressing) was gifted to him in a book, but that would have been a violet scent and not at all like the modern cologne.

You're welcome.

Yup. Cool!

In the film Hannibal, Santa Maria Novella plays an important role. Hannibal sends Clarice Starling a letter. She realises that it is fragranced. They gather together a panel of noses (great scene), and from there they track Hannibal to the Santa Maria Novella shop in Via della Scala in Florence. I think that some bottles of SMN also appear on Pazzi's wife's dressing table.

In 'Breaking and Entering' by Anthony Minghella, Jude Law gives a bottle of Jo Malone cologne (his wife's favourite) to a prostitute. I just remember thinking what a minging thing for his character to do!. I think his wife dumped him in the end (hope so)

Yes, I just watched that for the first time last week on cable and noticed it as well. He may be more than a bit "off" but I like his taste in fragrance. ;-)

In "Auntie Mame", Christmas time brought a huge disk bottle of Shalimar EDT or, possible, cologne. In "All About Eve" a boule bottle of Arpege sits on her vanity. And in Visconti's "The Damed", all manner of Guerlains made there way onto the set.

Patrick Bateman also has a bottle of Caron pour un Homme in his medicine cabinet.

Just last weekend we were watching the Christmas episode of "Downton Abbey's" second season. One of the female characters was holding a Guerlain box. That was almost more exciting than seeing a bottle. I mean, when was the last time you saw a perfume BOX in a movie or TV show?

Cool. This may be worth watching just for that!

I can't remember the film or who was in it (I'm so useful) but I saw a Les Exclusifs bottle on a bathroom dresser

It is! Plus the music, and Ridley Scott's images of Florence, and Tony hamming it up. Watch it and tell us what you think.

Was this the scene with Bond talking to M on the boat? I remember there was a bottle of something that looked like perfume...

I watched The Women last night.

In it, the main character's husband is having an affair with a 'perfume whore' - (her words.) (another word for perfume spritzer in a department store apparently).

Anyway, it turns out that the mistress and the wife both wearing the same expensive perfume. But, they don't say in the film what that perfume is!

Haha, I was given a bottle of Eucris hair elixir recently. It is indeed violet and fairly pleasing. Unlike Bond's though, mine had a strange brown urchin floating around inside it. I have suspicions it was rather old. Suffice to say, I haven't actually tried it and I'm not even really sure what its purpose is anyway. Greasing ones hair to the side?

Back on point. I have no recollection of noticing fragrance in movie. Great contribution, I know!

YSL La Nuit in the movie of : Public Enemy.
(I read at life style magazine).

Another movie I saw a only 10 minute scenes. The star of the film were Monica Bellucci.
It was look like a physicolgy(spell?) or dram type film.
The scene I saw with parfume bottles(high line probable exclusive type scents) in the middle of the room,at table.
The room were dark to me,therefor cant see clearly the bottle.
But, bottle were huge._< some kind of high line Gurlain?

Anyone know what Holly Golightly wears?
Love those filmstills, Fleurine! It appears as if film Holly has a fondness for some vintage Cotys and Lelongs, but that's low-experience eyeballing the still... I need to rewatch! So much fun to identify cosmetics or fashions from quick shots in film without any hints.

this thread discusses what Holly in Capote's novella wore: http://www.basenotes.net/threads/181...ciaga-s-Le-Dix

In the novella, I have only read 4711, which would kind of fit her lightly-ness very well, but would likely only have been her daytime perfume. I think she would keep one of the better three Lanvins in canister form in her mailbox.

'Fracas' in 'I'm Going to Tell You a Secret'.
Madonna sprayed it, like, 10 times (maybe even more).

edit:
Madonna sprayed it twelve times, I just checked

edit2:
Actually, it's maybe even more. After the 12th squirt the scene was cut
