Calvin Klein Encounter (2012) Personal Review

I tested this fragrance out, while on a business trip to Canada. I was really looking forward to this fragrance, the bottle is beautiful, similar to the MJ Bang flacon. The fragrance on the other hand makes MJ's Bang seem like a masterpiece. The exotic fragrance notes given in the fragrance pyramid are just not there. There is no oud, cedar, patchouli , jasmine. All I get is a generic synthetic citrus mess, easily found at discount fragrance stores. For the fleeting two hours it lasted on my skin, all I got was Citrus and an Alcohol vibe, thats it. Epic Fail for me! I will just stick to Niche Houses and Private Blends as I usually do.

I appreciate you telling us about that. Saves me a trip to the test counter.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll still sample this though. The notes did look great. Really disappointing to hear that most of them are non existent.

I will still test. Im often surprised at what some people smell in a frag because when i smell it I get something completely different.

Calvin Klein haven't made any decent men's fragrances for years.

Yeah, for sure. OP's initial take was kind of a bummer though.

I thought Shock was pretty good. Other than that though...

Quote from Calvin Klein when E congratulated him on his collection - "oh I have nothing to do with that! I sold the company and the name years ago"

Thus why a good fragrance will never come from that name and what was classic was watered down and played with....

The notes looked promising, but I wasn't expecting anything special. CK is more miss than hit these days.

The funniest thing I heard about this when the initial announcement was made was that it contained oud.

Calvin Klein and oud? Muhahahahaha....

Some Encounters are best forgotten.

Thanks for your input...I was looking for this one for two reasons: 1. The Bottle, 2. The interesting notes pyramid..but probably you saved my time...thanks

Euphoria for women was great.

The notes on this look great. I really hope this is just some initial disappointment.
Any idea when this should available here in AUS?

Some Encounters are best forgotten.

They already used oud quite some time ago in Euphoria Intense for Men.

I'm still going to test this. I've had such disaparate experiences compared to so many of the noses here that no single review will ever take something I'm interested in off of my to test list.

Also, this was done by Pierre Negrin who also did Interlude Man and Opus VI recently, both amazing scents, so I still have hope!

I have Euphoria for Men and if it has oud, the amount added to the master vat is equivalent to the size of the period at the end of this sentence. The woman's version is better (oud or not) and I enjoy that more. If you want oud, head to middle eastern perfumery.

CK's development budget will constrain even master perfumers. It would be like handing da Vinci a pad of newsprint and sidewalk chalk for his next masterpiece.

I agree that the last two significant CK releases are Euphoria for Women (just awesome) and Shock for Men. I plan on wearing my new Shock tomorrow.

Euphoria Intense supposedly had oud. Maybe a smidge, but I never really noticed much at all. I also haven't worn this in ages. I'm looking forward to at least sniffing Encounter since I agree the notes sound promising, but CK is usually a letdown, so I'm not expecting much.

Nice, I wasn't aware of that. I haven't smelled Opus VI, but luv the Interlude. At the very least, I'm back to having no expectations, as opposed to expecting it to be terrible towels.

My thoughts exactly as per CK frags. I was hoping this might be an at least similar to BANG, which I like.

Just an FYI - there's a full page ad/sample of this stuff in the latest Men's Journal magazine.

In Maxim also. I smelled the paper ad but I'll have to check it out from the bottle.

Here's the TV ad. About as bland as the fragrance.

This stuff smells amazing, but you have to spray ALOT! When you wear it.

IMO Calvin Klein hasn't had a bottle worthy frag in a while.
