Good Morning,

I hope everyone is well.
I'm back from my long weekend in Paris - needless to say I had a fab time. Plenty of good food, wine, company and perfume.
When I arrived on Friday it was 36 (97) degrees. First stop was Guerlain(Champs-Élysées) which was like an oven upstairs. I picked up a bottle of Liu, but declined the spritzing down experience as it was just too darn hot and I was already wearing Eau de Guerlain. I then wandered over to Caron, which mercifully was air-conditioned, for my Tabac Blond extrait. Then it was off to Uncle Serge's to sniff the new Santal Majuscule. Sadly, they still didn't have any samples of it available. I did apply some to my wrist, but the heat and sweat played havoc with it, so I couldn't form a proper impression.

Saturday before lunch I popped into Chanel (Rue Cambon) for some No.5 soaps, and to find out some more about this rumoured '1932' perfume. Unfortunately, it seems like it was a one-off thing and there are no plans to release it commercially. Lastly, I payed a visit to the new Jovoy store. There are a few lines there which are not available in London (Atelier Flou, Evody etc), so I concentrated on them only. I came away with a million samples and will have to work my way through them all at some point.
The rest of my stay was spent catching up with friends and making merry

Today I'm wearing Liu (EdP) from my new bottle and loving it.
Have a great start to the week,
Best to all.

Morning!

Fracas today, from a sample from the lovely ladymurasaki I love it, and it just shows how my nose and tastes have developed since a few months ago I would probably have hated it! Now I find the peachy tuberose SO soft and comforting, like a cashmere blanket

Sent Mr.T to the PO -- among many other things -- and he forgot the PO! I know there is stuff waiting for me in the locker there! Toys!

Have a nice start of the week.

Glad you had a super time in Paris and some lovely lovely acquisitions, too, G.!
Where does the current Liu stand compared to the vintage EdT or Extrait, I wonder?

Good afternoon. I am back from the festivities and it's back to normality but not the mundane kind. I am still buzzing with excitement from the whole Olympic experience and would treasure the memories for years to come.

Welcome home, Gandhajala! Thanks for sharing your experience. I too enjoyed my time at Jovoy sniffing my way through fragrances that are not sold in the UK.I would very much like to go back before the end of the year to sample more!

I'm glad you are enjoying Fracas, yellow_cello.

Today it's Gardenia Petale for me.

Greetings to our travellers, gandhajala and ladymurasaki and thank you for letting us in on your wonderful experiences.

More Oscar de la Renta Volupté for me. Again. Green yet not too bitter, moderated by lovely flowers, and an ambery drydown. Sampling is wonderful, and thanks to too many generous BNers to mention—I've done a lot of it this spring and summer—so is having one fragrance that makes me happy. Seems my pattern is about 3 months of wearing one frag > 50% of the time.

Lovely picture and thanks for your account, Lady M . It is truly an experience to treasure.
Welcome back G !

This morning I am wearing Diorissimo EDT. Still the best out of all the concentrations IMHO.

Lady M and Dr. G, what wonderful accounts of your adventures! Thanks!
I'm starting the week in Hermes Kelly Caleche.

Morning friends. Today I am in *Vintage Derby from a friendly BN'er. So lovely. Would love a 10ml of this one. I couldn't see me wearing this except on formal occasions. I've been on a chypre kick lately and this one is tops. I can feel it will be a fleeting affair this one, so will bring a back up decant of Vetiver Guerlain. Have a great day!!
Welcome back gandhajala - I'm green with envy. You are not the only one that has had good things to say about Jovoy, glad you acquired some nice stuff there. Chanel No. 5 soap, eh? Oh, that sounds fantastic, I struggle to love the scent but all of that powder and aldehydes in a hot shower must smell great! I'm not a Liu fan, but I hope you enjoy your new acquisition. Did you see the 'new' Habit Rouge L'Eau in the Paris store? I'm dying to smell it.

Today, I'm in:

Vetiver (vintage EdT + after shave balm) by Guerlain

I'm in No.5 EDT this morning- G., pass some of that soap this way, please? Glad you had a good time in Paree! Yes, I need to add some of those soaps to my ever-growing collection of No.5 bath & body products. They have been calling me.

Ladymuraski, glad you had fun, too! Wonderful pic, thank you!

Evening all . Just returned from a cool and windswept run accompanied by this sound -

Yellowhammers have hugely declined nationally, but seem to be doing very well around the farmland at the moment. This is one of the quintessential sounds of summer here ...

Good Evening,

Sounds like it was quite an experience, LadyM. I've not seen anything of the 'lympics yet, but I read the opening ceremony was well done. Glad you enjoyed yourself.

Mike - I must admit I didn't notice the 'new' Habit Rouge. It's a scent I've tried so hard to like (and I've sampled various vintages & concentrations), but just can't. Maybe one day... Sorry !

PerfumedLady - The No. 5 soap bars are truly wonderful and very strongly scented. As the SA said, put one in a dish in the bathroom and the whole room smells. Hideously expensive, but for special occasions, it's a real treat.

Jon - A Yellowhammer's call is indeed a welcome sound, given their falling numbers. I often notice them on telephone pole wires.

SotE is Tabac Blond. I couldn't resist.

Best to all.

Summer be damned. I am sick of waking up in the middle of the night like a vampire and slithering into my dressing room to mischievously spray my wrists with Bal a Versailles extract (in the appropriate vintage, of course, which is HIGHLY important to get right). I am not theoretically not allowed to wear this before september but i crave it....crave it.....so: Today--I'm just wearing it, leaving my usual marinating in Jicky EdP, a "perfumage" which takes forever, as, with the quality of Guerlain being what it is, it requires: Bathing in the EdT, All over misting in the PdT, and 4 to six SPRAYS of extract to achieve anything remotely noticeable. I'm somewhat sick of all the pumping. I'm afraid I am going to end up with a deformed finger in my old age. I'm also toying with the idea of abandoning Guerlain all together: Certainly I needn't ever buy another drop of it--as I have an entire room of it aging--(the formulations of the last 5 years seem to improve with aging. Proper aging (for these new "nothing" guerlains" requires about ten years in the dark at constant temperature in an unbroken seal.) If that happens, Jicky and Mouchoir de Monsieur lovers will be jumping for joy the world over as I have so much, and so much vintage, that it defies description. The extract of Bal a Versailles (appropriate vintage: between 1964 and 1979) has become so overwhelmingly delicious to me that i think I may just "go over" and let it become my all day all year signature.

Good afternoon, all. It's a lovely sunny day here.

I sprayed on Perlier Fleur d'Oranger edt (a jasminey interpretation) and drove my daughter to the town's pool, but found it had been shut down for the day; it seems someone had a nosebleed, and the pool needed to be treated.
Good evening fragrant friends.

Started the day in the everlasting, unscrubbable and to my nose, unattractive Jeux de Peau dry down. Scrubbed again and SotD was Alliage.

SotE is now Versace The Dreamer but I STILL keep getting whiffs of immortelle. Why is it this happens?

Great haul G!

Hello everyone!

We're back from the Far East, and I don't think I've ever been happier to be home! We had a fantastic time eating, shopping and touring our way through Hong Kong, Kyoto and Tokyo but I need to be in the company of my kitties for a while, sleep in my own bed, and hear the sounds of the French Quarter again. I don't like to spend lots of time in shops when I'm traveling (although you're sort of forced to shop in Hong Kong, lol!) so I must admit that I didn't go out of my way to smell anything new and exciting while I was away, but I just happened to wander into Chanel on day one, so I decided to make Bel Respiro my daytime fragrance of the trip, and it was perfect in every way. I also discovered Shalimar Parfum Initial in a duty-free, and I love it! I can't believe it - I love a Shalimar! I wore it to mark a few special occasions, including the evening I was honored to cook gumbo and crawfish étouffée (!!) for the enormous extended family of one of Tony's clients while in Hong Kong (it was intimidating, but my efforts were very well-received!)

People in both China and Japan do, btw, wear fragrance. I smelled perfume on others and in the air many times, especially "fresh" aquatics from groups of young men, as well as the unmistakable sillage of Chanel No5 wafting from an ancient lady in the Jade Market. Oh, and sweet scents on girls - nothing offensive, but nothing I recognized. I seem to be rambling now but I can't seem to do anything to stop it ...I'm very tired, lol! We arrived home sometime yesterday and I'm not even sure what day it is, but I thought I'd check out what's been going on around here. I see gandhajala's been to Paris, and had a swell time, naturally - what fun! Okay, now I need to eat, but the fridge is empty so I'll probably have to get dressed and go out. Did I mention we ate? Hong Kong boasts some the best restaurants in the world, and I needn't mention the sushi in Japan, but I still managed to lose 11 pounds, and that's not such a great thing ...time for a few beignets!

I'm in Shalimar Parfum Initial again ...or maybe still. I suppose I should shower at some point too, lol! Does anyone know if Parfum Initial has any products for the bath to go along with it? I'd love a big tub of body cream of it, and powder would also be wonderful.

It's good to be home and amongst you divine smelling people again - y'all have a fantastic day!

What a charming bird-song the yellowhammer produces! Such a pretty yellow, too.

We have the following birds singing around us in the spring and summer (the website has taped birdsongs for each):

American Robin: http://www.birdjam.com/birdsong.php?id=1
Mourning Dove: http://www.birdjam.com/birdsong.php?id=7
Northern Mockingbird: http://www.birdjam.com/birdsong.php?id=4
Blue Jay: http://www.birdjam.com/birdsong.php?id=5

Northern Waterthrush: http://www.birdjam.com/birdsong.php?id=85
Chipping sparrow: http://www.birdjam.com/birdsong.php?id=11

Just 2 miles down the road, these live on the premises of my mother's Seniors complex:
Killdeer: http://www.birdjam.com/birdsong.php?id=18

In the winter we hear these more:

House Finch: http://www.birdjam.com/birdsong.php?id=15
Black capped Chickadee: http://www.birdjam.com/birdsong.php?id=12
Northern Cardinal: http://www.birdjam.com/birdsong.php?id=3

Sorry to complain, probably not the right place, but I'm having a difficult evening. Due to a maintenance problem, I've been ousted from my apartment at the last minute. My mother kindly offered that my cat, the puppy I'm babysitting, and I could all stay at her house for a few days. I should have politely refused, as sadly my mother and I have never gotten along. She's a very tow-the-line normal type who shames and criticizes anything not super clean-positive-presentable-perfect, very big worrywart, bosses me. I love her so much, of course, she's my mother. But we couldn't be more different. The relationship was a lot better when we used to live on opposite coasts.

She really laid into me at dinner, and I've noticed she wears enormous amounts of Cool Water in the summer, which is a scent that actually makes me feel physically ill. I wouldn't dare say anything about it, but to recover I'm indulging in some Norma Kamali Incense--the anti-Cool Water--and can't wait to get back to my own place. It's amazing how some parents will treat their grown children like they're still five forever. Sorry for the complaints, all. But Cool Water! Applied heavily!!!

((( Anomie et Ivoire ))) Family can be difficult especially when you are under one roof . I hope your apartment gets fixed pronto ! Many thoughts !

I added Peche Cardinal to Carnal Flower- both have tuberose and coconut in them so it's a fairly good combo . No doubt my sillage is *evident* . *LOL*

I'm wearing Sweet Redemption today. I'm enjoying a "bonus" day off today ... many of my doctors are on vacation, so the schedule is light. It worked out to my advantage, since we are hosting our family reunion this weekend and I have SO much to do to get ready.

Welcome back to all the recent travelers! I am living vicariously through you since we won't be having a summer vacation this year. I am SO enjoying reading about everyone's travels.

30 Roses, I bookmarked that website with the bird songs ... thank you!
Thanks, Mimi! And we must be in the same kingdom: I'm worshipping all types of coffee-freak blends and weird espressos to get through this awkward patch. High energy and studying to tune out the under-one-roof drama.

Oh, and after complaining here, I thought better of it and gave my mom a vintage Shalimar edt in the blue and white china canister I had recently scored. It matches her clean and proper obsession with blue and white china and is such the better alternative to Cool Water. Shalimar used to be her favorite. How women allow themselves to wear Cool Water, I'll never understand, but my Angel soft spot is probably just as nauseating to many. Ah, perspective.
E., welcome back, I was speaking about you a few days ago in exactly same terms "Far East". Glad to hear about your choices, I have also re-tested Shalimar Parfum Initial and was pleasantly surprised last week. Excited about your cooking etouffee for a bunch. I love you, still.

I wore Ineke Angel's Trumpet in the morning and changed into Diane by Diane von Furstenburg for the PM.

I really, really need to try those floral curiosities..no anthropologie near me, oh well.

The only Cool Water I liked was Cool Water Wave. Other than that...Cool Water and all the other flankers..meh.

A dab of Chantilly parfum between the wrists this evening to cheer me up. I've been somewhat out of commission lately, but reading all your posts makes me smile. Welcome home, Evangeline!
