Man, this is interesting news! I'll be excited to try this for sure.
Thanks for the news. Will look out for this.
Sounds great. If it's anywhere near as good as HM, it will be fantastic.
Is it at Bloomingdale's yet?
Thank you! something to look forward to trying this fall!
The fragrance sounds good and the bottle old fashioned.
Im interested.
Has a lot of notes I am interested in .
The notes sound awesome!
Oh, and it's in EDT *and* EDP! Bitchin' bottle, too. Damn!
sounds ok.. might be interesting! Worth a try at least
post #16 of 84
must try... is this available yet?
Is it me, or are a lot of woody scents being released lately?
Either way, this one sounds interesting.
sounds inoffensive. thanks for the heads up
post #19 of 84
The bottle looks awful to me, but I love Hanae Mori HM (both the EDT and EDP) and this house has built up some capital where I'm concerned. I'll be on the lookout for it!
I will definitely try this one, but I am... concerned. Very few (if any) frags have integrated Violet Leaf with an Oriental base successfully. Maybe Bleecker Street has pulled it off, but thats about it. If the violet leaf hasn't been "buried in the mix" this could be quite dissonant.
It is available at the Hanae Mori website I just called and asked for a sample to be sent to me. One is in the mail :0)
Damn, it does hold promise!
Thanks for the heads up.
Notes sound promising. I absolutely hate HM.
Long overdue, hope it's good!
I just received my sample in the mail of the edp of HiM. For me I am disappoint it took them 10 years for this? In the beginning I get some citrus like the freshness of orange and lemon. Then the cardamom and cinnamon kick in and the scent becomes woody with a light sweet note from the figwood. Over all the scent is very light and safe nothing daring like HM. For a edp it hugging my skin very close and that is with two shots and some dripping onto my arm. I would not see this being a big projection scent but quit calm scent for ones personal enjoyment.

I agree that the bottle sucks. I have a love/hate relationship with HM.

Interesting array of notes, look forward to more people providing feedback on this

Maybe it needs to be layered with HM!

Still sounds worth a try. Thanks for the report!!!
Good notes! Hope to have the chance to try.
This is definitely worth a try. I sampled this today at nordstroms and was quite impressed. the violet leaf was pretty buried in the scent. It was nice tthat the bottle had all the notes listed on it to read, which made it easier to detect the different notes. The salesperson gave me several samples which I will use and I will report back later. Right now it seems like it is full bottle worthy for me. This is an edt. A nice release!

Where did you sample this?
Sounds like it is worth a try so far.
I sampled at Nordstroms.....I was also impressed.....Gary
post #34 of 84
I'm going to definitely try this one. I love HM HM.
It has a page here on basenotes. Hopefully people will start reviewing it soon. I look forward to checking it out. I really like HM, so I'll be curious to try HiM.
At Nordstrom today I ran into the HM rep training the SA's on this one and walked off with a nice sample, will be testing it this evening! The sample is the EdT.

to my nose, this one starts out with mandarin and goes on to mimic lalique equus: violet leaf and cedar. simple, natural, and rather innocuous.
I can't wait. I love the HM by HM. An improvement upon that would be delicious to my nose.

Like I said..."waited 10 years for this.....?"
After sampling it last night I'm inclined to agree that this one will be a crowd pleaser. I am anxious to see if he EdP offers a more interesting experience. The edt didn't do much for me.
Initially i get Curve/Mambo vibe...dries down in a totally different direction...sweet, woody and spicy...will wait to try the EDP

sigh...too much anticipation.

I could not place where I smelled this before and you just hit it.....Mambo by Claiborne !
Damn, i think i saw this at NM today and passed it right by because I was looking at something else!
Tried it today at Nordstroms, I was expecting a more unique smell considering what they did with their first release but instead you end up with a nice woody vanilla over a hint of cinnamon. I actually think that I like this years women's release (No. 7) a little bit better when trying out both.

I get a Curve + Bora Bora vibe from it....

reminded me of a lighter version of SpiceBomb.

Exactly what I thought, a dry version of SpiceBomb.
I definitely need to get a tester of this before I make the same mistake I did with HM. It started out nice enough but the dry down kills me.

I would not fret this one is very user friendly. If you like Lucky You, Mambo, Curve, BoraBora you will covet this gem?
Day 3 wearing HiM...I agree with Scentimus, all of the scents listed resemble the initial experience. If you like any of those, try this! Also to add to the category is Fahrenheit! I feel like there is a bit of all of them wrapped up in the intro...but give it a couple minutes! The drydown is gorgeous! Vanilla, cinnamon, woods...WARMTH! Very versitile for any season IMO...To compare to other threads, HiM = New Haarlem, Mambo/Curve/BoraBora = Rochas Man
post #52 of 84
Tested HiM (edp) and HM yesterday at Nordstrom's and wasn't impressed with either.
Sampled this today. I am in agreement with most that this is a safe, generic juice. Nothing unique. The drydown is it's sweet forte. I disagree that it has a similar feel to New Haarlem.
Only comparison to New Haarlem was in the quality in regards to the Claiborne line, HiM is superior
post #55 of 84
Well, I guess I'm going to go against the grain here. I tested the EdT version of HiM an hour ago at Nordstrom and I really enjoy it. I wish I could have tested the EdP too, but they didn't have a tester of that one out yet. I feel a similarity with HiM and HM. They smell like they came from the same house, and I mean that as a compliment.

Nordstrom is dishing out samples, so I'm giving it another wear today. HiM smells kind of like it's Hanae Mori's take on Chanel Allure. It's good, but I find myself wondering if it's missing that special something.

- - - Updated Monday afternoon - - -

The more I wear this, the more I'm enjoying it.

For me, there are two kinds of Must Buy scents. One is a scent that I frigging adore, like Gucci Pour Homme I or Fahrenheit. The other is a scent I enjoy that others (especially a date) are likely to enjoy on me, such as Gucci Pour Homme II and Aventus. I'm starting to wonder if Hanae Mori HiM might fit in that second category. I think it's strange that "Crowd Pleaser" is a bad thing on basenotes. To me, personal enjoyment plus crowd pleaser equals a big win. HiM smells like a potential crowd pleaser. I could see this one going over very well on a date - especially a first date, yet it isn't inappropriate for wearing to work. It has excellent versatility and I get excellent longevity as well. Win!

I can see some here disliking this one since it isn't particularly daring, nor is it revolutionary. In the same way that HM was a compelling combination of scents that have all been done before, I think HiM is compelling too. As I said above, it kind of reminds me of Chanel Allure, but with violet leaf and less powdery. It's different, but there's a similarity in how they wear - at least on my skin.

I'm not sure if I'm going to buy HiM, but I'm starting to lean in that direction. I need to find out what the differences are between the EdT I'm wearing and the EdP.

Last, but not least, I have to say that the name is horrible. By trying to be clever and naming their men's scents HM and HiM, the people at Hanae Mori needlessly created confusion. The sales associate at Nordstrom was trying to convince me that HM and HiM were the same scent, with one being the EdT and the other being the EdP. He even said "I bet the bottles are different colors so you can tell which is which." Granted, it's a new scent and the SA was just filing in, but if it's that easy for an SA to make that mistake, imagine how easy it would be for a potential customer.

Anyway... I really like this one so far. In fact, I enjoy HiM and HM. I'm not sure if I'll buy either, but then again, I could end up buying both, especially since the original HM is cheap online. HiM obviously isn't cheap yet since it's so new.
I've been testing the Hanae Mori HiM edt for over a week now. Did get one compliment so far, but overall still not sure if other people like it on me yet, however I do love it myself. Find it similar to GPII and spicebomb, which in the past didn't purchase either b/c GPH II with the longevity issues, and spicebomb being pretty good but to me too much like food. Personally i'm loving the HiM edt and will definitely invest in a small bottle (wouldn't go for a big bottle b/c already own too much cologne as it is). Haven't tried the edp yet.
I recently tried this and found it not to be too bad.
Here's an interesting observation (interesting to me, anyway): I seem to prefer the EdT over the EdP for both HM and HiM. In both cases, the EdP may be richer, but there's just something about the EdT that does it for me. In both cases, it's a close call though. I got an EdP sample of HiM yesterday and I'm wearing it today. I like it, but I think I prefer the EdT. With each wear, I find myself coming closer and closer to buying this one. And I'd strongly encourage anyone who liked HM to pick up a sample of the new one while Nordstrom still has them.

I sure home Hanae Mori doesn't wait until 2022 before launching another men's fragrance!
Tested the EdT at Nordstrom's this weekend. Initially it smelled like something along the lines of CK One Shock and Eau Des Baux. Seems like a fresher version of these. Had average projection, but sub par longevity on my skin. Have a few samples so I'll be giving it a full weeks wearing.

Like if you mix 80% generic focus-group "citrus-ionone-dry-wood" with your father's sensible rendition of the spicebomb "tonka-spice-woods" drydown.

I think it'll do very well for Hanae Mori.
