How to spray without smelling oneself?

I know this seems like a strange question, but my allergy doctor told me that fragrances may bother me. Though I haven't had any problems with scents fortunately, I think it's not a bad idea to apply them on me where I can't sniff them directly while others still can (you usually can't detect your own cologne after an hour or two anyways, right?). So I was thinking perhaps the back of the neck? the back? avoid wrists and chest?

That's a tough one, it sounds like you need to avoid spraying on your upper body, completely, and where's the fun in that. I suggest spraying lightly on your wrist and see how it works. Or try dabbing instead of spraying, to reduce the projection of the fragrance.

If your tolerance for scent is low, make sure you use unscented bath products and no scented detergents/fabric softener. Maybe then you can enjoy higher dosages of your favourite fragrances in general.

Try it and see if it works for you.

You mean respiratory allergies?

As others have said, spray as far away from the nose as possible. Legs, buttocks, belly. Also clothes in these areas. And do not overspray. Whenever possible, you might also want to consider splash or dab; typically, the act of spraying releases lots of molecules in the air.

Neck is a good idea, you won't smell it so much yourself but you'll leave sillage behind.

Try finding a cologne you are not allergic to.
I am allergic to a particular niche perfume house (but I'm not sayin' which one).

The better question is how can you smell yourself. I have hard time smelling myself after few hours of application.

Sure you can smell your perfume after a few hours. Some infuse for 10 hours too.

Whether one can smell oneself or not depends of course on the national style of application ...

Back of the neck, back and hair are good ideas.

Difficult to do. The fragrance will rise and eventually reach your nose.
Your best bet is to spray behind the neck.

I concur that this is hard to do. If you have any sillage at all where others can smell it, you can also smell it.

Well, I smell my scents all day usually. That's what I use them for. btw I got allergies as well, and I wear scents. during a short period I had slight problems in thecrespiratiry tract, just a strange feeling. but that went away fortunately. Now, only few scentsvaffect me, I believe I might be allergic to orange and mandarin peel oil. and some scents sometimes give me headache and nausea. Could be peru balm, but not sure. but i believe nearly everyone has probsvwith specific frags. i would say avoid spraying large doses on the front of your neck where you inhale the stuff permanently. rather use side or for strong scents back of the neck. i think that way the probability of sensibilization must be and respiratory problems must be lower. your skin can be sensibilized anyway.
