Your greatest blind buy!

Thread Starter
For me, it would have to be "Unforgivable - Sean John" i wanted to get an idea of what MI was smell like, i was aware that they did not smell exactly the same but i wanted to get a round about idea. 75ML for £15?
Bargain, went for it.

As soon as i got it which actually is beautiful packaging for the price, i opened it had a spray and was blown away. i have smelt Mi recently and ofcourse prefer it but my god it was probably best blind buy i've ever had! It was a perfect smell that made me not only happy i'd got it for the price but also woulden't of minded paying a bit more.

so. . .

Question: What is the greatest blind buy you ever made? A blind buy that went over and above your expectations or just completely delivered.

As I said on various occasions, a combined haul of Grey Flannel, Halston Z14 and Francesco Smalto pour Homme, but as I already stated before, it was not 100% a blind buy, since even if I haven't gotten even a whiff of these scents, the advice and reviews on Basenotes proved invaluable to take the right decision.

Sables.

I blind-buy everything because I collect bottles so it doesn't matter, and even when I buy one for my collection and one for myself I get two different sizes so it's no issue if I can't or won't wear it. Only when a designer/house uses the same style of bottle over and over (with no signifigant difference) is it an issue and since the bottle is half the fun for me I rarely buy in these situations. If it's a series like CDG or Givenchy then I'll buy all of them, but in the case of something like Creed or Annick Goutal then risk comes into the picture.

This happens so rarely. I normally sample in these cases, but having bought Vetiver, and then another bottle for myself I knew Sables would be redundant. I couldn't find a store that carried it and couldn't sample, and something about it was really just calling me so I wasn't going to wait for an online sample. So I bought it.

I don't wear it out because it's too young, but I love it and wear it inside all the time. Midnight in Paris was, in some ways, also a winning "blind" buy because no picture I've seen conveyed just how gorgeous the bottle actually was. Though it certainly seemed worth owning.

I don't blind buy but in december I got a bottle of the new CDG EDP (the one in the melted bottle) from a swap with a dear Basenoter. I got it blind and it was a success...

Van Gils - had read about it extensively so was perhaps a safe enough blind buy, but was not prepared for how excellent it proved to be

I'm gonna go with Au Masculin, L'Essence de Cerruti and D&G Pour Homme.

My greatest blind buy would have to be Terre D'Hermes EDT. This by far is the most expensive fragrance I own and it was worth every penny. It smells great and has the best longevity and projection of anything I own as well.

Personally, my greatest blind buy to date, was Christian Dior's Dior Homme Intense. After all of the positive reviews I just had to blind buy this one. And it was love at first spray. Now, I can't live without it.

(regarding Amouage Reflection man) Yeah, it was a gamble for sure, but I figured if I didn't like it I could always flip it.

Kiton/Kiton Black-Yes, these are awesome fragrances. I always get compliments on the original, just have a sample of the black. I have had various women say that I smell like a gentleman. Which is good, but I'm a wild boy! It softens the edges, so to speak. For this reason, I have no problems wearing scents like Prada Amber or Dior Homme, which some seem to think are slightly fem.-but I don't think so.

La Nuit De L'Homme.
It was a partial blind buy. I remember writing a note reminding me to purchase L'Homme. A year later I was looking through my phone, saw the note, and went online. I ended up going with La Nuit because I felt it had a darker vibe. Glad I did.

I've only blind bought a couple of bottles and they've all been good, but the best out of all those was Bond no. 9 New Haarlem.

Have only blindly bought a bottle of Jazz by YSL. Absolutely no regrets there.
Grey Flannel in 2009, mostly because of its stellar reputation on Basenotes. Since I found a bottle online for $10, I figured -what the hell-and blind bought it. First time I wore it I thought 'Whoa! It smells like nothing else I've ever come across.' It was singularly masculine, authoritative even with a rather elemental vibe to it. Wearing it is akin to putting on a suit of armor -it made me feel almost 'invincible'. Laugh if you want, but this is one fragrance that simply smells awesome on me. At least that's what my then-girlfriend (now my wife) told me. I thought she was simply being supportive of my hobby but a few female colleagues felt similarly about the fragrance. On me, it's magic.
