Fragrance Splits, DO YOU REALLY GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR?

Here s the controversy regarding splits,
Generous host advertises 50ml(usually) decants, split is completed, and everybody get a bottle of perfume , Happy ending right?

Does no one ever wonder if you get your full 50ml you paid for? Is the bottle a 50ml capacity filled up to the line before the bottle curves into the cap. That is not the full 50ml , it only seems that way. would advise you start measuring these contents yourself, i ve only recently discovered through the hard way that the"generous" host ends up with approx approx 40~50ml from a 250ml flacon. Which means you re actually missing 8ml~10ml of the perfume you paid for. Unhappy !

Note : I ve also seen the honest splits with proper measurement, so im not saying Host are , but some minorities, here and there.

I have never had anything but good experiences in the couple I have participated in. That said, if you are so suspicious that you are being bilked then just buy the full bottles and then you will have no worries assuming you buy retail. I personally think the hosts of splits here are providing a great (but unfortunately thankless) service to the community and appreciate their efforts.

I agree for all the honest (those who try their hardest to be as accurate as possible) splitters. There is a lot of responsibility involved on their part. Of course they knew what they were getting into but still. The proper atomizers, proper filling, correct tightness to avoid spillage, packaging, shipping, etc. A lot of work.

I've had some 50ml splits that actually probably had more than 50ml in them.

I've only bought one split, and am on the list for another, and I'm thrilled with the service and volume I received.

Some of the splitters do it for a small profit (usually the splits subsidise part of their portion of the flacon) and others do it for pretty much no profit at all. Those that do use the splits to subsidise their decant don't sell you short on the volume you receive, rather they factor their 'cut' into the final price you pay. I don't know where you're getting this notion that they charge you a set price for 50mL and only send you 40/42 mL, have you experienced this yourself?

It seems a lot of splitters post a cost-breakdown in their initial posts, which should help you decide on whether or not you're going to buy from them. Apart from that, if you're unsure then just ask questions.

I'll be gladly buying again, as I got 50mL of Aventus for about a third of what a 75mL costs here in Oz.

Well that explains OP's concern

I see this is your first post. Not a good start... The splitters for the most part get nothing out of doing it. They put alot of work into dividing up flaccons. If they end up with anything, it is only a few milliliters. I for one would rather buy a share of a large bottle for less/ml than a small bottle which can cost over twice as much/ml.

I wouldn't use a bottle as a measuring device. I've bought empty bottles in a variety of sizes from at least six places over the years, and more often than not, they are off. Depending on the manufacturer, they likely hold more or less than expected.

Please remember to leave appropriate feedback for any splits you received that were short 8~10 ml.

Thanks for your perspective.

It's be difficult to tell. You'd have to decant it while measuring and then you'd loose another few ml.

Calm down guys ,I prefer to have a discussion not start of to an awkward argument.

it s simply an experience meant to let people know this does happen, not a personal attack on all basenoters splitters. I m only letting people having the heads up that this is going on, just "some minorities, here and there." (as i ve said on my first post)

First post yes, but... what has that go to do with anything?

I ve seen some splits that actually use measuring cups/cylinders and 60ml bottles for 50ml decants, and i think are the most honest ones, and i do appreciate their services, it would not matter if it was missing a few mls, or if that is the small fee that is not the issue, These are honest splitters and deserve the appreciation and backup you re are showing them

Im detailing more about the 50ml bottles, for alot of the spritzer bottles i ve seen to get the full 50mls you would have to fill it up to the top, sometime when u screw the spritzer cap back in some back flow occurs, that is the correct 50ml amount. you shouldnt really see the fill line a cm/2 from the spritzer, will elaborate more with pictures tomorrow. But the host(and please this does not have to be a basenoter just because i posted here) i had got a split from know this, every bottle was filled up to what seems full like, and got to keep the rest.

I would just like people to know instead of getting ripped off blindly, whether it is an issue people would like to address or not it is simply a heads up. and frankly probably keeps basenote a more honest splitting haven for y'alls. If the host specifically said, 50ml bottle with say +-5ml then that would not be an issue right? But blatantly advertising 50ml and knowing the people who paid is getting less and you kept the rest for free makes me abit iffy. Well thanks for reading folks, and please, im not trying to atagonize you, just a discussion.

Thanks dollar&scents, always nice to have a big sparkling welcome

To avoid this conundrum as a splitter, I'd simply use a measured pipette or syringe. That way you extract exactly the prescribed amount.

I bought 15 or more decant bottles here at basenotes and im very happy. I would not buy at other place as the seller could sent me altered fragrances, adding water, alcohol or just senting another thing and i would even know, as regularly my decant purchases are blind.
But here at basenotes ive never had this problem, as i trust the sellers (they are very good friends too)
