scents and headaches - Page 3

There's not enough Ibuprofen on Planet Earth to quell what Hascish Homme can do to an unsuspecting basenoter.

I think A*Man is one of them for me
there was one more that I forgot about which I tried at Nordstorms
it was one of the worst headaches I ever had

If we mixed some A*Man and Hascish Homme, would Homeland Security get involved?

Bad headache from Gaultier 2
Cuba Gold gives me nausea. And I don't have strong enough stomach to give it a second try.

Oh, forgot to mention, I had a bad headache while testing Obsession (F) in my teen.
Not sure how will I react to it now.

Yes, Touch gave me a headache for sure. Almost turned me off of fragrances, as I became bitter I had wasted time and money on that bottle. This was when I was a bit younger.

Another one for me is Comptoir Sud Pacifique Aqua Motu. I regret having my bottle "disposed" because I may have been able to sell it, but that was before I registered on Basenotes. This fragrance genuinely scared me.

Also, just to note, getting headaches from these 2 fragrances (for me) is no exaggeration. It was not a fun experience at all with these 2 scents. Thank goodness I am starting to learn not to blind buy.

Givenchy Insense and Givenchy Insense Ultramarine are immediate headaches and sinus aches and I don't like them. But on a different scale, some rose notes make me feel like I ve inhaled powder and a feeling like "a headache is coming", although I do not dispise rose. It may also make me feel a bit melancholic....

Pi.

And although I love A*men when applied judiciously (mist and walkthrough), it will bring on the headache if over-applied. Proceed with caution.

L'Eau d'Issey is the number one migraine inducer (and to think I used to wear it once or thrice), although I think anything by Aramis gives me a headache now, and some of the men's Chanel range - used to wear Allure Homme a lot, but it gives me a headache these days.

Issey Bleue is a synthetic bomb.

Paul Smith London

I find this a great frag but i just can't take the drydown.gives me a headache n sometimes i get nauseous. And the fact that its so damm long lasting makes it worse for me. I want to like it but its hard. Hmmm...maybe its because of the number of sprays (6)..lol
post #132 of 196
hey friends!
lets make up a list of perfumes which give you headache? there would be at least one such fragrance like i do not like the fragrance of Calvin Klein CK.
what about you?
Talking of Calvin Klein - Euphoria !
Krigler's Pleasure Gardenia
Giorgio Beverly Hills
Natori
Amouage Reflection - Splitting headache every time within half hour of spraying, so I had to sell my bottle. It's a pity as well because the fragrance was lovely, it just didn't agree with me.
Green Irish Tweed - After about a hour and half, it starts to get very nauseating on me.
Any Tauer Orange Star - Absolutely disgusting, the worse perfume I've ever smelt to date and this made me feel sick when I sprayed it.

Headache: Parisienne

Nausea: many that have saffron and/or vanilla, and gourmands generally, among them:
Chinatown
Rose Kashmirie,
L'Air du Desert Marocain
Giorgio and knockoffs.

I find new ones that make me queasy all the time.

Youth Dew. Blech!

Burberry Touch gives me a headache ( if I am the wearer).

Headache and slight nausea: CK Eternity (for Women).
Most of the Calvin Klein (yukkkk), Krizia Uomo, Polo anything, The original Poison formulation.
Oddly, most generic aquatics which are apparently supposed to be "light", yet, oddly, I have absolutely nothing from significantly stronger gourmand, powerhouse, Oriental or leathery frags
post #147 of 196
Hi everyone,
I noticed that everytime I wear Acqua di Parma both original Colonia and Assoluta after a couple of hours I get headache. I normally wear no more than three light sprays, a couple on the chest and one on the neck. It does happen with the original D&G pour Homme as well.
Anyone else experienced the same? Is there any similar note those fragrances share which might trigger my headache? I have the feeling it's a herbal note of some kind which really makes me dizzy.
Opinions?
Have a great day one and all

Severe headache inducing fragrance in my case is Romeo Gigli (1991) by Romeo Gigli. It's beyond my understanding for what purpose someone ever created this thing?

+1 on Issey Miake, not as severe as others though

Anything overly sweet (most gourmand fragrances) can give me a headache.
Shisheido, Terre d'Hermes and one of the excentric molecules

I think its the Eso E
I have difficulty wearing gourmand fragrances for this reason. Another scent that recently gave me a splitting headache was Noir Epices.
Amouage Reflection +1 Terrible headache within a few minutes of spraying this

Lanvin Aprege PH
Balanciaga Cristobal PH
Sisley Eau de Campagne
Cerruti Image
M7

Sweet, ambery, vanillic, musky or indolic fragrances all tend to make me both headachey and nauseated. There are exceptions, but not many. Oh, and saffron-- love it in food, hate it in perfume.
Usually.

Florals especially white florals are my triggers - freesia, gardenia, peony. For some reason it took me really long to make the connection, I just thought I was sensitive to fragrances in general, silly me - but then I found Basenotes If you think it´s a herbal note it could be lavender or rosemary but then again it could be anything. If you´ve got herbs in your kitchen try sniffing them to see if there´s anything revoltingly familiar.
seriously.. Kouros gave me a headache when I wore it..
I've tried many fragrances, and although I may dislike some of them,
very few, if any have given me a headache.

The one exception that comes to mind is Chanel Platinum Egoiste.
I don't know what the particular note or accord
is that causes it, but there is something about
it that gives me a headache every time I've tried
to wear it.

Thanks Velouette, in fact I do think it's rosemary. I love it fresh, and use it for cooking and use to grow it as well, but i have the feeling it does not work on my skin. In fact, it does happen with Cool Water too, which has quite a prominent rosemary note. I reckon rosemary extract might be too heavy for me...

Black Orchid, Aramis and Tiffany For Men when smelled on others often induce a mild headache.
Another one for Issey
I've been around a few that I disliked intensely, but I've never had a headache from a fragrance.

+1 more on Issey Miyake Pour Homme. A recent revisit made me feel a little dizzy

As for Tiffany for Men too, but I think they key for this stuff is not to over apply. One squirt does plenty!

And CK Euphoria, DKNY Red Delicious as well
post #168 of 196
Now that I think about it Cuir d'Oranger came close. A dry, semi-herbal (thyme) leather with florals (jasmine x iris) more radiant than No. 5.

Loud, feminine and irritating as hell. It was marketed to men but usually sold as a feminine in Europe. It's discontinued and I can understand why. One of those deceptive fragrances that's compelling in samples but wears like something completely different. I sold my two bottles without any hesitation.
Amouage Dia Man, cK One, Eternity for Men and in sufficient doses, Halston Z-14.

Robert Piguet's Baghari comes close sometimes, too, which is a shame because it is one of my favorite fragrances. This side effect is the main reason I have not purchased a bottle yet.
I try to avoid this by always sampling first with one spray to the ankle. Then I waft it up to my nose by waving my hand up. If it starts to bother me I just stop doing that. If I think it's good but too strong I dilute it with vodka in a vial and dab it on. If it's too weak I can just add more tiny dabs until I get it just right.
This "vodka" solution of yours, Bigsly, has intrigued me since I joined BN.

I have yet to try it, probably on the (correct) assumption that I would end up convincing myself that such measures represent a waste of perfectly good vodka. And in a cruel twist of fate, my preferred course of action with the stuff also tends to induce headaches.

[sighs]

First days that i began to wear Armani Eau Pour Homme. Now i don't have any problem.
I don't know why but L'eau D'Issey.
Versace Blue Jeans for me.

BTW, Anyone wants it (free to good home, but you pay for postage). Posted in Australia only
post #175 of 196
Regrettably, L'air du Desert Marocain. Also, several PG's, including Coze and Cadjmere. Damned shame!
In my case, none so far, not even the fragrances I would hardly consider wearing and which I would never like, never gave me headaches or nausea or so
post #177 of 196
Almost every Bond fragrance I've sampled gave me a headache.
top 1 headache inductor

Strong synthetic citruses and amber tend to be the theme for me (thanks, the 90's), as well as sharp tagete, like you'd find in Burberry for Men (again, thanks, the 90's).
I was wondering why some fragrances are headache inducing?
